I'm putting something pretty here because what is at the bottom of this post is NOT so pretty.
I finished my two side hexie borders!
I didn't count how many hexies are in each border - numbers have a way of influencing me in not a good way and make me feel like something is too much work. I just sew. And when it's done it's done.
I realized that I couldn't fully figure out what was going to happen with the top and bottom borders until I had at least ONE of the side borders on, so I set right in to attaching it.
As soon as each hexie is completely surrounded by other hexies I remove the papers - which is a good thing. I've now got enough papers to reuse them in starting the top and bottom borders.
They are good for about 4 times before they are too flimsy to hold their shape well.
This is were we were the other evening. I'm a bit further now. But this is where things get icky, so scroll on past if you need to.

I arrived at the Inn Thursday morning to find that Tula's eye was huge, oozing and glued shut.
I called the emergency vet and drove an hour to get her in.
They had to sedate her to flush the eye and see what was going on.
She'd developed an abscess somehow - maybe from a bite, or maybe by getting something in her eye. We don't know.
I brought her home with meds and she is now holed up in the QPO studio because I can't let her outside and I can't bring her home here. We are already juggling fractious cats and I can't have her in that situation.
Thursday afternoon.
Yesterday morning - a bit better.
She is still hiding in hard to reach corners and I don't blame her. She hurts, this is a new place, it's not outside, she's lost her freedom and she is scared.
I'm giving her pain meds and eye drops on schedule. We have another appointment on Monday to see how she is doing.
We don't know if we can save the eye. I am hoping so. I'm headed over right now for another round of meds and to stay with her through the day, just leaving her there to sleep at night.
She is eating - a little. Not like usual.
I'm super worried about her.
I did finish the last of the X-Plus blocks with dark backgrounds and I think I know what I want to do next - I'm going to sash them with a double sashing with four-patch cornerstones.
It's going to be simply traditional and I think it works for all of these scrappy blocks.
I need some sunshine so I am thinking a soft yellow and a white.
Anyway - if you were contacting me about blocks turned wrong in yesterday's Lupine & Laughter Reveal - there was a story that went with that wrong block that I forgot why I took those wrong photos in the first place.
But at this point, I don't care. It is what it is. Yes, the block was fixed and corrected and it's in the quilt correct. Please don't email me about the wrong corner in the block in yesterday's clue. I don't care.
It just seems so insignificant with everything else that has been going on in my life over the past 3 months.
Sometimes we just have to let it go.
Quiltville Quote of the Day -
If you find yourself wallowing, MOVE ON before it sucks you under!
We all go through things, but the objective is to GO THROUGH, not take up residency.
Leave your baggage behind, and GO FORWARD, even if it is just baby steps.
I love the simplicity of this simple 36-patch quilt. It has all the comforting feels.

Some simple sewing is in order.
Have a good weekend, everyone -

So sorry to hear about poor Tula.
ReplyDeleteI'm working on a BOM quilt that had one entire side border sewn on wrong in the photo for the first month! I wonder how long it was like that before someone noticed.
ReplyDeleteWe have a one eyed cat in the extended pet family due to an untreated injury before we knew her. Ultimately the eye was removed and after recovery she doesn't seem to miss it at all, no balance problems observed, etc.
ReplyDeleteWith you on the "letting the little things go" thinking!

So sorry about Tula! Get well girl!!!!! For the life of me, I don't know why people announce an mistake. It's my quilt, it's done, keep it to yourself. So holier than thou.......
ReplyDeleteHope you find some joy today Bonnie!
It's hard when our furbabies are sick or injured. Hugs to you, Bonnie, and healing vibes going out to you, Tula. Get well soon!
ReplyDeleteOMYGOSH! That poor kitty’s eye. So happy that you are able to help her..
ReplyDeleteTake care Bonnie and Tula. 😻
Hoping that your poor kitty fully recovers. I’m just starting working on my first mystery quilt. What a beauty yours is, xx I hope my turns out great too. Karen B from Wisconsin
ReplyDeleteFeel better, Miss Tula!
ReplyDeleteNo worries like having a pet hurting and complainers. Sad that people look for the errors. I see them as soon as I post. It happens. Yep, Move On! Love your Hexie project. Glad it's getting closer to done. Have a good weekend.
ReplyDeletePoor Tula.😞 Hoping things will get better and she’ll be back to herself real soon.
ReplyDeleteBonnie! Care about what you NEED to care about, and don't worry about us MQers. We can mix up our blocks ourselves, and can understand what worry does to you! I am grateful for your Mystery Quilt, which comes at the time of year that I need it the most. Bless you, and I hope you have a good trip and a very boring time before you leave. Boring is good!
ReplyDeletePoor Tula! Going through something similar with my (once outdoor) cat. Hopefully Tula will have a full recovery and live a long and happy life at the Inn. Thank you for looking after her. Take care of yourself too! Kathy M.
ReplyDeletePoor Tula. I hope she's feeling better every day. I know how worrisome it is when a pet isn't well.
ReplyDeletethinking good thoughts for Tula, pet worries are real and hit some of us hard. so glad you are taking a "don' care" attitude about something that is fixable.
ReplyDeleteI like the dark background on those X blocks. Ellen T.
ReplyDeleteLove your Lupine & Laughter. And I'm so glad I chose to make one also. Since purples are not my thing , I was hesitant to try it and I to always like to follow your colors as that is how you designed it. I followed your colors and am nearly out of purple. Yea! The use of pink just made it perfect and I 'm excited to complete it. Thanks.for making the holidays full of excitement as our family was isolated due to Covid...ugh! We are all better & back to whatever normal is now days!!!
ReplyDeletePoor Tula Lou, she looks to be in such misery! I hope Flash isn't fretting for her. They are all so fortunate to have you caring for the animals you rescue. Are Vets expensive in USA? They are here Downunder.
ReplyDeleteI love the way your MQ revealed it's wonderfulness
Watching a beloved pet suffer is the worst! Hopefully the antibiotics and your TLC will resolve the infection. Let's hope for the best.
ReplyDeleteLove you, Bonnie.

I just went thru an episode with my Pom’s eye - either an infected ulcer or puncture of the cornea. Had to give her oral meds, drops, and ointment in the eye 11 times a day for weeks. It looks as though her eye is saved, but now she distrusts me and runs and hides when she sees me coming. She used to be so friendly and loving. She is slowly coming around, but it breaks my heart for her to think of me as the one who hurts her. Hang in there, we are praying for you and for her healing. It will all be OK with time. 💕🙏.

Brighter days ahead Bonnie, Tula will get better. You are an awesome furbaby mom. Loving our mystery this year.
ReplyDeleteI so understand about numbers. I’m to a point now, if I can’t do it on my computer and let it add, subtract, multiply or divide for me,I hand it to somebody else. Help me out a little bit. Would you figure this one out, please?
ReplyDeleteI feel very sorry for Tula's accident and hope she recovers well At least you weren't trying to corral Flash!
ReplyDeletePraying that Tula can keep her eye. Sending you all love and hugs!
ReplyDeleteMy heart goes out to you and Tula.
ReplyDeleteI find so much wisdom and love in your Quilt quotes. Have you ever thought about compiling them into a book? Please consider this.
Math has always been overrated! Best wishes! Marilyn Marks
ReplyDeleteThank you, Bonnie, you make a positive difference in my life!! Love and best wishes for you and pretty miss Tula Talula Lou! 😁❤️
ReplyDeleteYou are taking very good care of Tula. Hoping she recovers with time. As far as Lupine and Laughter post yesterday, I didn't catch anything. I have taken a new approach to life recently. If it's not perfect, just know that I am human. I am still learning at age 70 and sewing will definitely keep me on a learning path. Picking up Jack the Ripper keeps me humble!
ReplyDeletePrayers for Tula and her eye. Being an outside kitty has not been an easy life for her. I wish she'd decide your studio is a good home as I understand why the cabin is not an option.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry about your kitty. Hope she will be better soon!
ReplyDeleteTula’s eye looks so painful … poor girl … and poor you too, Bonnie! I’m so happy you’ve managed to tame Tula enough to be able to help her. She’s lucky to have you as her ‘mom’. Best wishes for a good check-up for Tula next week! Candy
ReplyDeleteBonnie, I have always been perplexed how people fuss about this or that with the mystery. Let it go you are giving us a gift, a BIG ONE! Move on to important things and adjust. Who in this world lives that perfect a life anyway. Live and love.
ReplyDeletePoor baby, I feel for her and I understand what you going thru
ReplyDeleteI sm crossing fingers for Tula's recovery and that she keeps her eye.
ReplyDeleteOh, poor Tula, and poor you for the worry you're experiencing!
ReplyDeleteMy heart aches for Tula. Thank goodness you are such a good caregiver and I pray for a speedy recovery. ❤️🩹 sending hugs to you too. Fran in WA.
