Day Two of our Sister's Choice Workshop - and blocks were coming together without a hitch!
I love the variety of colors and fabric choices that are happening here.
And new ideas were flowing...need more pops of color? Need more neutrals? After our morning class session most of the group headed off to nearby Galax on a Fabric Acquisition Road Trip to Quilts on Main.
I walked in to find more 9-patches had been made in the evening hours!
Now all they needed was some star point units surrounding them!
Hints & Helps on working with stitch n' flip corners -
If you've used the "draw a line" method, the biggest hint I can give you is to remember that the line is your FOLD LINE. It's where the fabric has to fold up and over your thread so the triangle reaches the edges of your base unit, be it a rectangle (as in this case) or a square.
That means that you sew NEXT to the line, into the side that will be seam allowance after trimming. Keep your needle up against the line, but don't sew right on it.
From here we also had a demo on the use of Doug Leko's Simple Folded Corners Mini ruler - placing the corner square on the base rectangle and using the ruler to trim first, then simply sewing the corner triangle in place.
I love the spring green with these florals!
So much creativity happening!
Gorgeous batiks!
Vintage repros and a happy smile!
More soft florals and a Tilda chambray for star points.
Sunshine yellow gold on the right. Bold color with black on the left!
This one has an autumn glow!
More beautiful batiks.
Chatting with friends while making beautiful blocks.

Official class instruction time ended at noon with a delicious soup lunch on the back porch. We are enjoying a bit of warmer weather and soaking up every bit of porch time that we can.
While quilters were out fabric shopping, I sat down to stitch some more triangles.
I then brought my tray over to the retreat to visit while I pressed and removed dog ears.
My inspiration?
Flipping back to my photo of the pressed and trimmed triangles - I think I've gotten this right so far!
I'm excited!
But what about those X-Plus blocks? Maybe later. I'm in the moment. Now to see what this will become.
I had grandiose plans to sit and do some embroidery to finish up a stitchery for a future travel project last night - all that I need to do is put grey where the few places grey goes and the stitchery will be done.
But yesterday afternoon in the midst of all of this Hubster Dave called to tell me he was taking Zoey to the vet as she wouldn't stop throwing up.
Of course this happens on a Friday afternoon, and we didn't want to put it off over the weekend knowing we could end up at the emergency vet in Boone.
Zoey has always had a persnickety tummy - she goes into the woods and eats grass and who knows what else. Could this be a decaying squirrel? Who knows. But she needed to be seen.
She is fine - they gave her a shot for her nausea, we've got some meds to give her, and she is back home.
I drove to Independence to meet up with Dave so he could put Zoey in MY car while he headed up to Wytheville for his cornhole night with the guys.
Honestly - I needed a quiet night at home. I hadn't had an evening alone since before I left for Europe and my battery needed some serious recharging.
Back to that stitchery - It didn't get touched. I could easily have what is left finished in an evening - but I crawled into bed by 8:30 pm, read for a while, and turned out the light.
I slept until 8am this morning! WHAT!? I never do that.
But evidently it was what I needed and I'm off to finish up this workshop with the Shippenstitchers today. And a much needed haircut this afternoon.
A bit more from the Switzerland leg of our tour:
We visited Cotton & Color outside of Basel!
What a marvelous shop!

These colors I am seeing around me.
Autumn greens and the rusty color of fallen leaves.
