A couple of years ago. July. This same weekend in July. We had the mishap with the falling tree swing where I broke my foot, and my nose...
I thought we'd had a good run since then! And then the thing with this falling clock happened....And yes, this is the same group that was here to help me when the tree swing fell THAT July.
But more on that later.
I'm so excited that so many of you have supported Kala in the purchase of your Quiltville Inn Fabric on Spoonflower.
If this piece looks a bit "Swiss cheesy" it's because a workshop was happening with the Pieceful Hearts gals yesterday - a bag making workshop including zippers and pockets and little divided sections within!
Bag making is happening here!
Here's another close up so you can see everything that is on this fabric.
Bag in progress!
And here's Patty's completed bag! (Front)
Back. So cute!
Spoonflower has sales quite often. It's not uncommon for them to have a 30% off from time to time so I asked Patty to remind me of when sales are happening so I can remind YOU!
And yes, I know postage is expensive if you are ordering internationally, but hopefully when sales are on it will be more feasible for you. We understand. It would be the same thing if someone here were ordering items from your country and having to pay shipping/tariff/duty, etc.
I will get pattern info today. Because yesterday around lunch time I finally gave in to having Hubster Dave take me to Urgent Care for x-rays on this leg that was clocked by the falling clock.
It's been two weeks. It still hurts like a mother bear, the swelling was not going down and I wasn't going to push it through another weekend, because what if not being seen was doing greater damage??
This new place opened up recently in West Jefferson, North Carolina. So conenient!
And the place was empty. (on a Friday? At lunch?) I quickly went through all of my sign in stuff, and it wasn't long before they brought me back for vitals, and then x-rays, and finally....
Yep. The falling clock that I tried to save via a soccer move with my leg chipped the bone.
Figures.
Next time let the clock hit the floor, dang it!
The hard part is...this is my right ankle. It complains when I machine sew too much. It complains when I try to drive the car. But this brace should help.
It's itch/scratchy on the inside (Thanks to so much Velcro!) so I have cut the foot off of a tube sock to wear as a sleave to cushion things a bit.
I can't fit a shoe over this thing, so I'm happy enough that it is summer and I can get by with flip flops for the next 4-6 weeks.
After that, if I still have a problem, I am to go see the ortho guy.
But what do they do for a bone chip that is not attached to bone any longer? Remove it? I just don't know.
But so much for any road hikes between now and....whenever?
I got five more Four Patch Fun blocks done as Leaders & Enders while working on my new main project. Yes, there are some oldies from the deep stash being used in my blocks! (Bye bye fabrics!)
After that, I just wanted to go home and elevate this thing.
And this cute girl was on her blankie beside me through the whole thig, sleeping while I grumbled.
Today: I won't be able to make so many walking trips back and forth between the QPO and the Inn, so when I do, I'll just stay around longer! LOL!
I elevated my ankle and settled in to some quilt back repair.
This is what I put over the really bad spot where the seam came apart on my backing. This is the left over strip of binding. All that was left. Binding chicken for the win.
And this was the WORST bad tension spot.
It wouldn't have been so bad if I had pressed the seam to one side, but I press my backing seams open to eliminate bulk when rolling onto the machine rollers so.....
A piece from the backing margins ended up here.
And now the backing looks like it has fabric bandaids.
At this point I'm like "Whatever."
The front, however, looks Mahhhhhvelous!
Lessons learned. Carefully inspect backing seams before loading into the machine. Why was I in such a hurry, anyway?

It's Saturday. I'm eager to see how the rest of the bags turned out from the class they had.
Saturday is also laundry day for refreshing towels, washcloths, head turbans and kitchen linens and it's completely silly how giddy that makes me to fold fresh towels out of the dryer and present them back.
It's the Quiltville Fluff & Fold Service. Makes me happy.
I'll do SOME sewing today, but I think I'll be at my desk more putting the finishing touches on the Abbeygate Pattern. I'm almost ready for it to release on Wednesday.
How about your weekend ahead? What's going on in your world?
Quiltville Quote of the Day -
I give this the biggest yes ever, and 100 thumbs up!

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

Bonnie, I think you have joined my club! I always start my stories by saying, "You know how the stupidest things happen to me? Well, let me tell you the latest!" I have been the source of many amusing or gob smacking anecdotes for my family and co-workers over the years. These make for great stories at family gatherings. It's not fun when it happens, but the fact that you can survive these things strengthens your resiliency. I hope you heal quickly without needing further care for the leg. And now you can also start your stories, like me, with, "You know how the ..."
ReplyDeleteAfter my knee replacement surgery, I tried using my left foot to operate the foot pedal of my machine. I find that I now prefer using it. I think I may be better aligned with the needle and sewing more consistent seams. Wishes for a speedy, uneventful recovery.
ReplyDeleteI did this before my right hip replacement. I had to switch back when my left one needed a replacement. Now, I'm ambidextrous! 😎
DeleteI was advised by an older wiser quilter over 25 years ago to sew using my left foot. It provides better alignment for back and hips, plus reduces the last part of the seam going off to the right a little if that's a problem. It was for me. :)
DeleteYep, let the clock fall. You need less mishaps in July for sure. Murphy was working overtime on your Quilt back. Glad you could add a fix strip here and there. I have a roadtrip today. It's gonna be a hot one. Wishing I was heading to the Sister's Outdoor Quilt Show.
ReplyDeleteOh Bonnie I had no idea your ankle was so bad, my sympathy is with you.
ReplyDeleteI'm busy sewing parts 6&7 of Old Town...and my L/E. I love my 201-2
It sews beautifully. The cabinet came out sew nice.. I'm in heaven.
Have a wonderful weekend or try to
Blessings 💞🙏
Please be mindful of the pain. I had osteomyelitis my first week of kindergarten and it was caused by getting hit with a rock on my hip bone. 5 year old flirting turned dangerous. Anything that removes the protective coating in a bone ... blah blah blah... a 70 year old story but it is still a real thing. No real symptoms except extreme pain. I am not Chicken Little but please be aware and if the extreme pain continues google osteomyelitis.
ReplyDeleteLoving the fabric Band-Aids. I think they add character and charm. Kathy
ReplyDeleteTotally agree! Also love the term Fabric Band-Aids - we all need some fabric band-aids in our lives!
DeleteAfter I had surgery on my right ankle, I learned to use my left foot so I could sew. It worked great and kept me sane!
ReplyDeleteI volunteer at our local community theatre and this month we are so fortunate to have 2 high school interns working with us. Next week I am teaching them costuming tips and tricks. This will include threading a needle, sewing on a button, hooks and eyes, snaps, cleaning spot stains, and ironing a garment. Of course a few subtle quilting tips will be inserted. Well probably more than a few. That's not just my weekend but my July. It's so much fun.
ReplyDeleteOuch! So sorry about the chipped bone. I used to drive a lot for work, plus sew every evening, and all that started bugging my back & hip. I taught myself to sew with me left foot and it has been my way ever since. It's a bit tricky at first, your right foot will keep moving in sync, but your brain will finally switch to just the left foot.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about your foot but hopefully it heals fast and less pain.
ReplyDeleteI have been sewing using my left foot on the pedal for a number of years now and that works really well for me. Also leaves the right leg to use on my knee lift. Happy sewing.
ReplyDeleteSorry about your foot, and sorry it's your sewing foot! I hope the swelling goes down soon. Do any of your machines have a knee pedal? Mine don't but I often wish that they did. Our large German Shepherd stepped down on my foot as I was stepping up, and the result was a break in my little toe that took 7 months to heal. I got pretty good at pressing my foot pedal with my left foot. :-)
ReplyDeleteLove how you fixed the backing seam problem. Have a great weekend, Jenny
Bonnie I now try to sew with my left foot that way I can use the knee lift without moving my foot off the foot pedal. Works great. Take care of your foot. It tough when out price bodies are working well.
ReplyDeleteUgh! Bummer about the foot!!! Do you have a machine with a start stop button? I don’t particularly like using the button but it would come in handy for cases like this! Every quilt has a story, and this one has one that is just that much more colorful. If it were mine it would have turned blue from all of the.. we’ll say… colorful… language I uttered! 😂 Let the quilters soothe your heart and remember to rest and ice if it gets too sore. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteI had a problem with my knee and found I could use the on/off button. Now I use it all the time! Did not take very long to acclimate myself to the button!
ReplyDeleteYou can now tell everyone it was your latest attempt to stop TIME, we all have our ways...sorry it is taking so long for your foot to heal. Have a good weekend, so love the latest quilt, just beautiful, and thanks for the picture of Zoey.
