This was my weekend!
After a whirlwind Opening Day of Old Town Excitement on Friday (You'll find everything under the Old Town Mystery Tab at the top of the blog if you missed it) I made the executive decision to put all things on hold for a sewing day at my own sewing space at home.
Audio book, hot beverage, and not only a bin of neutral strings, but an extra basket!
You know why two?
Well...besides the fact that it would take more than one bin to contain this bonanza, but...
I needed one bin to work out of while Lola did her best job as Scrap Compactor in the other!
Seriously. This is what it has come to. Because as soon as I pop the lid on any tub - she is in it and making a little cozy nest for herself, and gives me the stink eye and a grasping paw every time I try to pull a strip out from under her.
What else is a quilter to do?
This gave me hours of piecing pleasure. Just pulling strips and stitching them onto my paper foundations and clipping them in sets of 10 to keep easy count. I'll be trimming them down later.
If you do not save strings, you do not know what fun you are missing.
And in this day and age, we want to squeeze every use out of every available scrap that we can.
Or at least I do. I take it as a challenge and I feel like I always come out on the winning side with a basically "free" quilt at the finish.
This was my Saturday!
Sunday? I went to the QPO and filled mail order so it is ready to go out to the USPS this morning. And then at noon we headed over to Boone with some friends for some fun and yum at the Japanese Steakhouse.
It had been forever since I ate at a place where they cook in front of you. It was a beautiful day for a drive - and we saw HUNDREDS (I'm not kidding) of cars with Christmas Trees tied to car and van roofs.
The meal was amazing - and large - in fact, yesterday's leftovers will be tonight's dinner which feels like a double win right there.
Friends stayed at our place and visited for a while, and before I knew it it was evening time and the weekend was coming to a close.
It was just the way a weekend should be, allowing me to recharge my batteries and prepare myself for the busy week ahead.
I have today, tomorrow and Wednesday to put the finishing touches on Old Town parts two and three.
I need to get my suitcase packed for England by Thursday morning because we'll be heading down to Jeff & Ashlyn's for Thanksgiving returning sometime in the evening, and Friday morning I'll post Part two and off I'll fly to New York.
Do you see how things are closing in? I'm not worried...I'll get it all done, but I need to make the best use of time possible. We've got this. We can do this.
Rulers, notions and tools are also 15% off using code NOTIONS at checkout to receive discount. But only if you remember to use the code, and put it in the right place.

Quiltville Quote of the Day
For your own safety.. don't interrupt the quilter when she's quilting!
Have a Marvelous Monday, everyone!
Congratulations to the two Ladies!
ReplyDeleteSo no Thanksgiving at home this year hey, well that should be fun at your son's. It's just going to be the 3 of us here. I'll do my pies and apple crisp Wednesday.
I'm all set for clue #2 ! Hope to get the tree up soon. I'm also making wool applique ornies for the tree.
I'll keep busy with that until the next clue comes out.
Blessings 🙏
Congratulations to the winners!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a wonderful relaxing weekend Bonnie. I did too. I finished sewing Part #1 last night and I'll get them all trimmed to size today.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Ree and Tellia! Jenny
Oh Lola! Good you have lots of Neutral strings. Lola keeps you
ReplyDeleteStitching. It's our Anniversary so, whatever DH has up his sleeve is what I'm up to.
Breakfast out and maybe some stitching of Flying Geese while he naps. Cause we are old enough to know naps are good! I might get him to take me out for a movie on a Monday. We have until Saturday to cook the Turkey. All my Children are coming.home. i don't remember how many year since that happened! There will be pictures and a few Quilts in our Gathering. Happy Novem-burrrr
on my own for the holiday this year, will be stitching with friends on Black Friday and working on Moonflower after a fabric swap! - saving the Old Town clues for later on....
ReplyDeleteWhat is a folded corner? Do we need the folded corner ruler for the mystery quilt along?
ReplyDeleteBonnie, you mentioned the designin floors of churches that you have visited, which reminds me to suggest that you see the new movie "Conclave". Lovely floors are featured and perhaps you have actually seen some of them in your travels. Sometimes I have to see a movie a couple of times as I get distracted by the music, artwork, scenery and naturally the tile work that I don't follow the story line. There is a limit to my multitasking.
ReplyDeleteI don't do strings right now because I don't have the space to store the bucket. Maybe one day when I get an empty bucket... wishful thinking!! Absolutely love the quote for the day. I just spent a whole day by myself cutting for County Clare & piecing a jelly roll top together. Congratulations to the winners! I need to get my copy soon. Happy quilting!
