It's that time of year!
The temperatures were up there toward 70 - but let me tell you, the wind was gusty and cold so you'd never guess it was "technically" that warm.
Still - a couple of adventurous retreaters and I headed up to Grayson Highlands for my first Appalachian Trail hike since June of 2022.
Could the foot/ankle handle it?
YES! Although I'm a bit stiff this morning, there has been no pain/swelling. Hooray!
As for the ponies - we weren't sure we would see any, and these two new retreaters had never been up here before so I was quite surprised when we spotted our first one, just off the trail!
Could there be a baby in that belly?
I'm looking forward to seeing the new foals this season!
My two cohorts!
Further up the trail -
Searching for any bit of green beneath the winter-brown.
Still sporting a shaggy winter coat!
I'm always amazed that even in the dead of winter there is such an abundance of colors and shades up here. The shadows from the clouds made interesting patterns on the nearby hills.
That wind was fierce, though! We sat and watched the clouds just move on by - it was like some kind of weird movie cinematography. But no, just the wind.
I'm not sure there is much green between the rocks, but evidently she thinks there is something there!
So what do you think, ladies?
Paradise on a mountaintop!
And those blue ridges - they go on and on and on.
Back at the retreat there was plenty going on there too!
Charlotte's Ruby Jubilee in green coming together.
And including the "MUST" of a piece of Y2K fabric!
The big laugh? She gave me the rest of it - about 1/2 yard. LOL!
Pat's got some Elisabeth Hartman dinos coming together.
Pam is working on her Chilhowie -
I bet she has a top by retreat end!
I spy some Fish School aka Kismet happening here!
Some very tall cats! Cute!
I love seeing evidence of productivity everywhere!
Turning into this!
Oh, this is definitely going to be a fun one.
The hubster came over last evening to work on the lawn, and we accepted an invitation to dinner with the ladies - that meant no cooking for me. Hooray.
That also meant that we got the live trap set last night, and by the time I got home came a message that Tula had already been caught - more on that story for tomorrow when I have more details on how the vet visit goes today.
Keep your fingers crossed for us, because I have no idea how I'm even going to get medicine down a wild partly feral cat that showed up on our porch with a very hurt foot.
I don't know if she's been spayed - what if she's pregnant?
Stay tuned for tomorrow's episode, of "As The Cat Meows..."

ReplyDeleteThank you for rescuing Tula.
ReplyDeletePonies, cats, and quilting. Now, that is the good life.
ReplyDeleteMaybe we will see a mountain blue and brown quilt in your future. So many shades of brown to include. Even the pony! Keep us updated if a baby foal arrives! Love your blog. Glad you were able to hike again. Walking is so good for us. Until tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful views from the Top. I'm stitching in the hotel. Hope my stitching didn't distub the lower floors. Almost ready to go down for Breakfast. That I didn't have to cook. Quilt Show day, Wearing my Rhododendron Trail T-shirt!
ReplyDeleteHappy Fri-yay!
I'm so glad to see the pony pictures - have missed them
ReplyDeleteTula chose a very caring porch! Good luck at the Vet.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with Miss Tula. I hope your vet will take into account that she is semi-feral and give her a shot of antibiotic. We had a feral cat that needed antibiotics and they gave him a shot that they said was time released. However it happened, the shot worked great and we didn’t have to try to catch and dose him with meds.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the Inn, Miss Tula!
Thank you for caring for the kitties
ReplyDeleteWe have a former feral cat that we had to capture and take to the vet. After about a month she became a lap cat! Just keep talking to her and let her come to you.
ReplyDeleteI buy the chicken flavor pill pockets....the ones for dogs as they are softer. If you need to give Tula a pill just wrap it in a piece of pill pocket and put it in with a small portion of the food. Once it is eaten (breath held, fingers crossed) give the normal amount of food. It has been a life saver here when our cats have had issues. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteOh, I am so glad I stopped by to visit! I love seeing the ponies and your views from the trail! It always makes my day. Hopefully it was a successful visit with Miss Tula! Can't wait to read all about it! :)
ReplyDeleteAs for my quilting world, I think this weekend I am going to set aside my current projects and work on something cute and fun for the classroom Easter decoration. Have a good one!
