Another day to stitch and chat and laugh and learn in Wichita, Kansas with the Prairie Quilt Guild!
They’ve done a good job in choosing 3 workshops with completely different techniques and we dug right in to a two block quilt yesterday, Texas Tumbleweed from MORE Adventures with Leaders & Enders!
From what I understand, West Kansas has it's own tumbleweed issues, and many are calling their quilts KANSAS Tumbleweed instead of Texas!
This was a whole new group, and it was fun to meet everyone!
The Prairie Quilt Guild is LARGE with 700 members, so sign ups were limited to one class per student until everyone had their chance to choose a class, and then if there were any openings left, students could choose a second class if there was still room. All classes are full! And I love how busy and happy a full class room is.
Can you hear the hum of the machines and conversation?
Hands were busy!
All the pretty pieces!
I love the hot iron brigade!
Blocks in all of their variety!
Bring on the color!
Friends that stitch together!
Whoowhooo!
Awesome day, ladies! Thank you!
There is a change happening with Picasa Web albums. It’s now changing to Google
Photos, and it doesn’t look like there is going to be a way to do slide shows
after May. I’m BUMMED! I haven’t explored it enough yet, but I have found that
YouTube does have a slide show option, and so we are trying that! Hopefully it
will be BETTER for those on mobile devices. Here is my first try!
I even put some music with it!
This is kind of cool because these slide shows will be available in my YouTube channel, the same place my other videos and quilt-cams are archived. This has possibilities, but I am still learning new ropes, and awfully disappointed that Picasa is being discontinued.
A surprise visit!
At 4pm as class emptied out, in walks my friend from Colorado, Jessica. I ran to her and hugged her tight and burst into spontaneous tears. She, the sneaky thing, knew she was going to come and surprise me, and surprise me she did! We just had the best time eating BBQ clear across town because all the other BBQ joints are closed on Sunday in these parts. Then back to the hotel we came, sat in the Mezzanine and ate popcorn and talked some more. Jessica, I so value your friendship, and you keep me in stitches!
It has been an amazing 10 day trip so far, and I have seen several long distance friends in this week from Valerie and her sit n sew bunch, to dinner out with Randy as she made her way from California to Chicago and on to Wisconsin, and now Jessica!
It's not stopping there. Tomorrow, I get to meet up with my friend Brenda who is here on a driving trip with her mom from Canada visiting family and exploring the Midwest. We haven't seen each other since our trip to England a couple years ago.
Evidently the Universe knew that I needed some in-person friend connection this trip, as it's been a long one. They have buoyed me up, filled my heart, set me straight and put me in line, and to them I am ever grateful!
Quiltville Quote of the Day!
Vintage single wedding ring or crown of thorns quilt found in Kentucky
It's always easy to blame others. But when it comes down to it our successes or failures are entirely our own. This is something that I am really working on. You do know these inspirational photos are something I post for MYSELF first, don’t you? We’ve all got things to work on.
Today the Universe is telling me: “Don't let your emotional reactions rule you!”
Today there is Texas Braid from Adventures with Leaders & Enders up on deck!
Have a wonderful Monday, everyone!
The Youtube slide show worked very well on my iPad mini. Texas Tumbleweed has been on my quilts bucket list for a while. I thought I needed to beef up my batiks, but maybe not. Or maybe I'll use it as an excuse to get those batiks. ;)
ReplyDeleteI love the new slide show. It works a lot better on my computer, and love the music with it. I think you are going to be happy with it. Always enjoy your blog and your journeys around the country and beyond.

Slide show worked very well on my iPad so I'm pleased! Loved seeing everyone's quilts in progress! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you were able to connect with friends. There isn't anything like old friends and time to catch up, especially when it's face to face.
Sorry our Midwest weather has been so fickle while you are here. We really do have better most of the time!
Safe travels and empty seats next to you on your way home Wednesday!

Bonnie. Love reading your daily posts each morning. They inspire me so much you'll never know. Whether I have a day to sew or clean a closet. Lol, I referred to you as my friend ,Bonnie when talking to my husband this morning and telling him you were in Witchita teaching this weekend. Safe travels and hope to catch you on quiltcam soon!!!!
ReplyDeleteHI, Bonnie. The slide show worked perfectly on my mobile device (loved the music). Previously I haven't been able to see your slide show
ReplyDeleteUnless I went to the big computer. So this is great for me! Thank you.
The music was soooo cute - great choice! I was giggling while watching.

What a way to start the day with your post! Always fun to see how your students are doing -- while remembering the excitement of how it feels to be in one of your classes. Hurray for face-to-face friend time! You are certainly blessed. The Google slide show worked great. Technology is keeping you on your toes. Thank you for always being willing to embrace change. Hugs, Allison in Plano, TX USA
ReplyDeleteThe slideshow came out loud and clear on my iPad, and the music was a nice addition. I, too, look forward to reading your daily post and love the vintage quilt backgrounds. They would make a wonderful collection in a book for those of us who treasure affirmations and encouraging words. They give me something positive each day, and after surviving the worst year of my 73 year life, that's important to me. I hope someday to get into one of your classes and experience you first hand. Until then, these posts are the next best thing. Thank you for the inspiration, and keep looking forward....always.
ReplyDeleteYes! Loved the slide show with music on my Nexus. I think it's going to work. I haven't been able to get it before except on my laptop. Enjoy your day and see you in less than 4 weeks on Mackinac Island.
ReplyDeleteLove the new slide show. I like that I can do a full screen view on my computer - worked very well and I have a very big monitor!
ReplyDeleteI love the YouTube slide show! I usually read your blog with my second cup of coffee each morning (it's that 4 hour time difference). I read on my iPad or kindle fire and until now would have to wait to look at the slide show on my desktop later in the day. Both tablets open YouTube easily though. Great option! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe that in 4 weeks we'll be in Michigan. I hope it warms up some, but I'm packing hat, gloves and a warm jacket!
I also love the new slide show. Worked well on my mobile phone and computer. Plus I love the option to put it on full screen on my computer. THANK YOU!
ReplyDeleteWonderful way to set up the classes. That way everyone gets a chance for a class with you. I took a Class on Saturday with Maggie Ball who will be in Wichita later this month. Lucky gals in Kansas. I'm glad your long distance friends could surprise you. Have a great class today. Picasa is being discontinued or just the slide show??? I didn't know that.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed your slide show including the music. I knew before even reading the words below the picture of you and Jessica. She's a fun person for sure. Have fun with your long time buddies and newest ones. Sandi
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteThe video played nicely on my regular iPad, thanks. Looks like everyone is having a blast.
That was so neat for your friend from Colorado to come for a surprise visit!
Love the new slide show! Played great.
ReplyDeleteLove the new slide show! Played great.
ReplyDeleteThe music was very cool!
ReplyDeleteBut if there is an option to "click through" the photos rather than watch as an actual slide show, I couldn't find it. That tends to work better for me when I have a chance to "sneak a peek" from work....

Jessica is sneaky - lol. I was with her over the weekend at MOKA Quilt Study Group in Leavenworth, KS. She makes me laugh out loud and giggle. Such a great combination. Didn't really get any real face to face time, but plan to as soon as possible after she moves to Wichita. Then you can be jealous of my opportunities to see and visit her. What a talent. Your talents gravitate toward each other.
ReplyDeleteWish I were there. Betting some Parsons, KS, friends are having a ball and laughing along as they sew up a storm. I have to meet you one day.
The YouTube slide show has another advantage. I have Flash disabled in my browser for security reasons, and the old slide show wouldn't work for me. but YouTube works well.
ReplyDeleteThe uTube slide show worked perfectly in my iPad... I thought it was better than the old format... The pictures were larger... Good choice.
ReplyDeleteWow! The slide show works great on my Kindle Fire. Previously I could not view it on this device. I love the music also. Thank you Bonnie.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love the music. Made me tap my toes.
ReplyDeleteThe slide show worked great on my Samsung Galaxy pad. I like this new format. The music had my foot tapping. You have a great imagination for thinking of this. Well we knew this already due to your quilts. I look forward to reading your blog every morning with my coffe . Thank you for sharing with us about your busy schedule. You are an inspiration to a lot of people. Keep up the good work and remember to take care of yourself.
ReplyDeleteCarolyn from the piney woods of East Texas
Loved the slide show. The music is a super addition! With each tweak, you improve an already perfect blog! Thank you so much for brightening my days!
