The Spring Retreat with the Siouxland Samplers Quilt Guild was held in the Stoney Creek Inn in downtown Sioux City, Iowa.
What a great location! Beautiful large rooms, terrific conference center – and look! Barn Blocks on the walls!
It was as if they had decorated JUST FOR US.
And you should have heard the exclamations of quilters as they stopped at each block along the way, each speculating on the traditional name of that block.
“Oh, thats a such-and-such chain.” “No, I think it’s a something-or-other crossroads” You are BOTH wrong, it’s called “Someone’s pavement!”
Too much fun.
Name this block!
And this one!
Or this one!
Oh come on, I KNOW you know this one!
Weeeeee!
I made this block in Jingle Bell Square!
However you name them, they are a quilter’s delight to see!
I also really loved the muted tones, and imagined what they would look like in muted fabric. Isn’t playing with color and value and units just wonderful? Nope, we are never bored! If you are, go quilt something!
we had a load of lovely Show & Share during our two days of workshops.
Enjoy the slide show!
Quilt-Cam TONIGHT!
This is Gayla’s kitty watching Quilt-cam, while Gayla was trying to put on a binding. She writes: “Was busy binding and Emma Leigh decided that she needed to get close to the person talking. I was watching a previous quilt cam. Ha Ha” I love that she has an Emma Leigh, and I have an Emmy Lou!
Join me here on the blog at 9pm eastern and we’ll do a bit of stitching together. It’s been a while since I’ve been able to fit it in, and this fits just right!

See you tonight, everyone!
If you go to the town of Kalona the sidewalks have quilt blocks embedded in them that were designed by locals. My cousin owns a quilt shop there that was originally owned by my Grandmother and Aunt named Stitch and Sew Cottage. The block right in front of the cottage was designed by my Aunt and Uncle. It is a sweet little town with lots of Amish. I have wonderful memories of summers spent around this area.
ReplyDeleteI know the first few. I made a whole quilt of that "friendship square" or Path & Stiles. I Passed a few on my road trip last week-end. DH drove too fast to get a picture. Waiting for Quilt Cam! Glad you are home to do it.
