How Far Is She Now?

Since I'm on the road and don't know if I'll have a chance to update anything until I get back, I thought I'd send this on ahead thanks to the delayed publishing feature and let you see how the hexagon medallion is progressing!

I got a TON done over my VA weekend, thanks to not having to drive...I got to be the passenger! That meant lots of progress was made.

I'm piecing the floral borders surrounding the stars in sections:

Can you see the blossoms in the chain? :c)

Here's a shot of the whole thing and how it will fit (some day)

I didn't realize how far that border was going to extend beyond the previous round of star points! I think...yep...I think....that after this border is on, I'll find a way to fill it in to be squar-ish, and call it done. Not sure I want to fill in the corners with all blank hexes...but can pattern in there too I bet...if I plan it right!

  1. You did make progress! If only I didn't get so car sick. I dream of working on projects in the car but I can't even read a text message or heaven forbid I look at a map! So what is the over all plan for this? Will you applique the hexies onto a plain background?

  4. How gorgeous! I so admire your commitment to this project - I would probably have given up by now and tucked it away with the other UFOs!

  5. That is just incredible and well done. I love the hexies. Every time I see how beautiful this is, I want to start a hexie project.

  6. Lovely hexes! I think I have said that before...And to do them while you are in the car..such concentration!

  7. Oh, wow!

Absolutely going to be a show-stopper.

When you square it out, have you considered making a vine of the green hexes and adding another flower or two in the larger 'blank' areas?

  8. I am curious about the above as well. Can you post about what is done with the hexes once all done? I have a huge box of precut hex shapes that I keep thinking I will do something with... someday! Great work and very inspiring Bonnie.

Bonnie....I can see some of your fantastic machine/hand quilting in the squarish corners.

I envy you being able to sew while moving. It gives me an instant headache even glancing at a map. You have all the luck!

  11. Beautiful Bonnie! Doing handwork in the car is one of my favorite activities! I'm working on two hex projects right now....

For your background creams, did you just collect an assortment and then do a random grab for each one as you sewed them together?

Keep up the good work and have a great trip!

  12. Maybe instead of saying just creams, I should've asked about all the variety in the greens and reds too :)
