FIVE GOLDEN RINGS!!!
But not Five of a kind for this part -
Guess what we start doing today?
We're going to start putting some things together!
This was another stop on our long day around the Golden Circle of Iceland:
Caught that geyser at just the right time!
Folks milling around and waiting for the next blow.
And believe me when I say...this all smells REALLY BAD!
But this scenery makes up for it!
Let's Sew!
Click HERE for Part Five PDF.
Today we are actually doing some assembly!
We'll be using the hourglass units made in Part One.
We'll also need to cut:
24 sets of 4 matching 2 1/2'' purple squares for block corners.
24 neutral center squares 2 1/2'' - as scrappy as you want them to be.
I dug into my Scrap User's System for any neutral squares that I could use here, cutting the remainder from 2 1/2'' strips.
Lay out units. We have 3 rows across, and three columns from left to right.
These little 9 patch star units are perfect for those wanting to learn what "webbing the block" is!
Leaving the far left column with right side up, fold column two with right sides together over column one and chain sew the three pairs of pieces together, leaving the chaining threads in place between the units.
Press seams toward the purple corner squares and toward the center neutral square.
With chaining thread still connecting the rows, add the column three pieces, continuing the chain assembly of the block into completed rows joined with more chaining threads.
There is no reason to clip these chaining threads unless you want to spin press a seam or press seams open. Just leave them.
3 rows connected with chaining threads between the rows.
Fold the top row over the center row and stitch, nesting seams. Press seam toward the top row.
Repeat for the bottom row, pressing seam toward the bottom row.
Pressing on the back.
Block front!
Make 24. Blocks will measure 6 1/2'' unfinished and finish at 6'' in the quilt.
And that's it my friends! That's all for this week!
Part Six will post 12/26/25 but if you are inundated with family activities, don't sweat it! Remember, this isn't a race. Get to it when you can.
Have a wonderful holiday week, everyone -
Quiltville Quote of the Day -
And that may just happen today.
Son Jeff is on his way to help with repainting some interior spaces at the inn.
And the power is out due to high winds, but the generator is running.
Happy Friday, everyone!

ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas Bonnie! Thanks for another mystery to get me through the holidays. Wishing you happy times with your family together for the holidays.
ReplyDeleteIt is exciting that we get to start constructing, so early in the process. This is my first mystery Quilt EVER. I was nervous about it but now it’s kind of exciting. It’s like a weekly Quilt adventure.
