Quiltmaker May/June ‘20 Gift-Away!

Happy Saturday, everyone!

This morning’s post is a bit later than most as I had some early morning things on the agenda that I didn’t find out about until last night.

Our son Jeff moved into a new house with Ashlyn and her 3 year old son Casden – and when I asked if there was anything they needed as they begin setting up housekeeping together, the request came of “Yes!  Do you have spare pots & pans? Silverware?”

It’s not the easiest time or the wisest time to be out shopping for these kinds of things.  Money is tight as working hours have been cut back due to Covid-19, and it’s all good. We want them safe.

So let’s shop through mom’s stuff instead!

A set of pots & pans from the inn are on their way, along with extra silverware, a couple rolls of paper towels, some handmade masks, blue shop towel filters and instructions, and a twin bed for Casden.

It’s going to be a different kind of Easter.  The kind where we really focus on how grateful we are for everything that we have, the abundance we have to share, and how little we really need to be happy.

So since I’m late with this posting – I thought there is no better day like today for a fun Gift-Away!

Those who already subscribe -

You may have received your copy in your mail box already!

Those who haven’t subscribed – there may be no better time to subscribe than now when you can’t go out  (or shouldn’t go out! STAY HOME!) to wrangle up your own copy.

Magazines are seriously the most economical source of inspiration and patterns out there.  And Quiltmaker is the ONLY magazine I subscribe to.

What’s in this one?

SO MUCH STASH BUSTING!

Which is another great thing -

Because we should be staying HOME and making good use of what we have.

A couple of my favorites from this issue:

Reminders by Teri Lucas.

Teri is also featured in a Designer Spotlight article in this issue – and I love reading about the lives of other quilt folk, don’t you?

Teri’s Reminders quilt is 60’’ x 60’’ and can be found on page 17 of the May/June 2020 issue.

Cut Loose by Jennifer Strausser

This quilt is PERFECT for digging into that layer cake or collection of 10’’ squares that has been sitting a while.  It’s fun, it’s modern looking and it is fool proof.  What are you waiting for?

Jennifer’s version finishes at 51’’ x 59 1/2’’ and can be made larger by adding more blocks or borders.

This is quarantine quilting at its best! Pattern found on page 25.

Origami Lotus by Jen Daly.

The traditional Rolling Stone block has been one of my favorites since the beginning of my quilting life.  I love how Jen has used layer cake 10’’ square for much of the fabric used in this quilt – another great design for digging into that pack that you haven’t opened up yet. Simply add background.

Jen’s quilt finishes at 67 1/2’’ x 67 1/2’’ and is found on page 29.

Modern Trail – how cool is this!

Pattern by Claudia Pfiel.

This would make a great fat-quarter project. Those little alternate rows of squares really catch my eye.  How about you?  Of course purple anything is good in my book.

This quilt finishes at 66’’ x 86’’ – a lovely twin size.  Enlarge it by lengthening your columns and adding more columns to make it the size you need.

This pattern is found on page 35.

Addicted to Scraps!

Nearly LeMoyne.

Of COURSE you know these came from my Scrap User’s System collection of strips. And I used my Essential Triangle Tool to make the half-square triangles from the same size of strip.

And I love ANYTHING that has a star design, but I want it to be construction-friendly.  There are no Y-seams in this block.  Just choose two fabrics that you like together, and add a background.  SO MUCH FUN!

You’ll find the pattern for the Nearly LeMoyne blocks in page 87.

And that isn’t ALL that is in this issue.  It’s cram packed with tutorials, hints, helps, information.  You will want this issue.

I am including 100 blocks vol 16 in our Gift-Away as a bonus!

It includes the pattern for my 12’’ block Grayson County.

I happen to be Quarantined in Grayson County right now!

I really SHOULD make a quilt out of this block and name it that.  And you can to – if you win this bundle!

Other goodies included in the bundle!

How about an “I love 2 quilt” decal for your vehicle to let the world know that you are a quilter?

A Jelly roll of solid black and white – perfect to use as backgrounds for that next scrappy quilt you are dreaming of.

My Quilty Coupon Keeper – great for more than just coupons. Use it to keep your EPP papers sorted, needles cataloged – so many ways you can use the pockets in this baby.

EPP starter pack with 3/4’’ paper foundation hexagons and an acrylic hexie template for cutting up those scraps for your next EPP project -

And my Quiltville 2 1/2’’ x 6 1/2’’ ruler by Creative Grids!  Whew!

This is a big deal!

Are you ready to put your name in the Easter Basket?

We will draw for our winner on Wednesday, April 15th.

Winners must have prize shipped to a USA address.  If you are outside of the USA, you may opt to have it shipped to a friend within the USA who can forward it on to you.

Thank you for understanding the nightmare that is known as “international shipping.” Especially right now.

Do you have your copy yet?

I have placed my stock of the Addicted to Scraps book on deep deep discount at just $15.99 (regularly $27.95) and it comes with a free PDF pattern download for my Wanderlust Table Runner.

If you've been waiting for this book - now is the time. Put your stash to good use while you retreat away at home.

You'll find it in the Quiltville Store along with other goodies you may want to add to your cart - check the NEW category to see what else we've added.

The Essential Triangle Tool and the Simple Folded Corners rulers are also back in stock if you were wanting them for our current Unity Quilt Along.

If you haven’t joined in yet – we are currently on Part 2, so there is time to play catch up while you are sewing at home while sheltering at home.

Part 3 will be ready to release on Monday so be watching for it!

Quiltville Quote of the Day -

Vintage quilt found in Alabama.

I just love the stripes and plaids!

Happiness will never come to those who don't appreciate what they already have. Start by appreciating the little things.

There is no better time to start daily appreciation than right now.

Have a lovely Saturday.

  1. What a fantastic give away. My favorite was the Cut Loose quilt by Jennifer Strausser. I have plenty of 10" squares for this quilt. I thought it might look good in 10" string blocks too, should someone have lots of strings stored away also. LOL

  6. In the beginning of March I was at a conference in CA. As I was driving back to my hotel, I noticed that the car in the lane next to me had a Love to Quilt decal. We ended up at the red light at the same time. I honked and waved and we rolled down our windows. She asked if all was OK. I said yes, and hello from a fellow quilter. She told me about a quild show with 3 guilds right down the street from my hotel. I was able to get there before it closed for the day. There were so many lovely quilts, and several of your Mystery Quilts! Love the decals!

  7. Bonnie have you and your family tried ZOOM for a group dinner. My family and I did this last week and it worked out wonderfully. Our 2 daughters and their family both fixed their own dinner and I fixed ours then we all sat down ate, visited and had a glass of wine with each other. It was so nice to see everyone and carry on conversations with them all.

  9. This is an awesome giveaway! Love that the patterns are stash friendly and smaller size (mostly). I don't make large quilts because I make all of mine to gift - either personally or to charitable organizations. Thank you for all you are doing during this time. Hope we life your spirits the way you do ours.

  13. What a great bundle. I would love to win this as it has been an extra stressful time for me. Besides the self isolation I having been dealing with shingles for the past two weeks. I am sure brought on from all the stress. But between qui;ting, knitting and cooking I have kept my mind busy.

  19. Bonnie, by any chance do you know how I could get a hold of the past issue of Quiltmaker (Mar/Apr)? There was a pattern in there I wanted to save to make as a wedding gift for my great nephew and soon to be niece. But somehow, I've managed to lose it. Just let me know what I need to do!

  20. This brings back fun memories of helping my children set up their first apartments. It was easier than this tho as I was free to shop at Thrift stores without fear of getting sick.
