Is there anything more welcoming to a quilter than an old barn with a quilt block on it?
It’s as if even the barns and old buildings recognize who we are, and what we love – Not just in the now, but standing as a testament to quilters past, present AND future.
There is peace in the patchwork. There is love in every stitch.
Lisa and I passed this barn on our round about motor tour of the area, having just left Quiltville Inn where we were helping with the assembly of many work space tables – attaching mirrors to antique dressers (A definite two-person job.) and the un-boxing of dining room chairs so their assembly can begin.
As each room receives a piece of furniture – pieces of a puzzle of how this is really going to work fall into place.
The two dressers I brought from Tess’s in Raleigh have each found their places in bedrooms. A half-round hall table has found a temporary spot along a downstairs hallway wall.
And the work tables! Just wait till you see!
The beginnings of set up!
Tables are approx. 4 ft. long and are from IKEA.
Chairs yet to come of course, and loads of moving around to do, but we are getting there.
Floor plugs will be placed under each station, and a shared power strip placed on top so quilters don’t have to get down on the floor to plug in. This will also eliminate trip hazards with no wires being stepped over as folks move around.
Chairs and other things yet to come.
Porch rail display of a lovely gifted top!
I received this top in the mail this week, a signature quilt from the 1980s that simply needs quilting and binding. It will be lovely here at the Inn, and I have such a fondness for these fabrics I remember coming through my early life as a quilter. Lovely album blocks – how fitting!
Lisa’s first cabin UFO finish!
I’m still plugging along adding sashings to my Diamond Tile blocks. We headed out around 4pm down to Boomer, NC for steaks on the grill and an evening of relaxing and unwinding at the home of our dear friends Rick & Mona.
Jason and Mona being silly!
North Carolina Sunset by tiki torch!
As darkness fell, we caught the edges of fireworks that were going off in the distance all around us, but they were mostly obscured by the trees. That’s North Carolina for you! TREES! And I love them.
The dogs however, did not like the booming and as soon as it started, into the house they went. We sat and talked for quite a while out on the patio, just enjoying the cooler night area, and the flicker of fire flies around the yard. Magical.
This morning Lisa and I are hitting the machines running – No interruption of an assembly trip to Quiltville Inn today – we plan to make good progress on projects at hand.
It’s a quick holiday – It’s likely I’ll head home tomorrow to get back to putting Quilter’s Date Keepers and Quilty Pencil Sets in the mail. And yes, there are more on their way – likely to arrive when I return from Michigan in a couple weeks.
Family that I’m missing!!
Yesterday was also a family reunion at the home of my sister in Utah. Again, thank you so much for all of the prayers and well wishes for my brother Mark. He is hanging in there. Chemo is tough, and pressure from the tumor has made him a bit unsteady on his feet, so walking with a cane is now necessary.
This photo was waiting for me on my phone this morning from their family fun yesterday. I wish I could be there. I just couldn’t fit in another cross country flight with all that is going on. I hope to make it out to Arizona to see him in the fall.
On the sofa from Left to right – My mom’s sisters Gail and Joy, Mark and my mom.
Quiltville Quote of the Day
This morning I'm grateful for a happy and safe 4th of July spent in the company of family and good friends.
Today I sew!
i am really intrigued by this block. can you send me a good pic so I can figure it out?.
ReplyDeleteLook at the picture on a tablet where you can use two fingers to enlarge the picture. It looks to me like a variation of Kansas Dugout. The floral fabric pieces are the same shape as the parallelogram in that traditional block, I think. Hope that helps.
DeleteIt is amazing the progress you are making on Quiltville Inn. At the rate you are going you will be opening sooner rather than later. My imagination is running wild with each piece you add to the mix. What a work of LOVE!!!
ReplyDeleteYou have been Busy ladies!! I love the dressers with the Mirrors. I have my Grandma's waterfall dresser. Love the squeaky wheels even. I made Tula Pink's City Sampler quilt. It's on my list to be quilted. Good to see the quilt top hanging off the railings at Quiltville Inn!!
ReplyDeleteAll the Quiltville Inn plans sound amazing, hope I can visit some day. Just one word of caution, label your power strip with date of installation. After a catastrophic shop fire a few years ago, the fire inspector identified the cause as a power strip and told us to replace after 5 years. I would not want your dreams going up in smoke!
ReplyDeleteWhat is the name of the tables that you got? I need some! Thanks,
ReplyDeletePretty sure those are IKEA Linnmon desks with Adils legs. While they will be great for a retreat center, I caution anyone who has a heavy machine to look at the Galant series at IKEA for a desk with an under frame for more support. I also used the T-leg that is height adjustable to get the perfect height for me (I am short and normal “desk height” is very much too high for me to sew on). My sewing machine is on a 47 by 31 inch desktop and doesn't vibrate even at the fastest speeds.
DeleteThey look like IKEA Linnmon Desk with Adils legs.
DeleteThank you, Thank you!
DeleteLovely family photo. Your mum and aunt could be your sisters, you are blessed with youthful genes. X
ReplyDeleteI love the photo of the barn. It is worth framing. I wish I could paint it in watercolors! (Another hobby I would like to pursue, but don't have time for)
ReplyDeleteAwhile ago you were looking for mattresses that can be flipped over. The Original Mattress Factory
ReplyDeletehas that kind.
We bought a king from them 2017. They have a guarantee that in the first year you will be happy with the mattress or they will exchange it for a small fee. We had problems with the mattress and got an exchange. We opted for their most firm. So glad we did. The first one felt like the center was higher. It must have been, I rolled out of it twice. Luckily I didn’t get hurt.
I just love reading your blogs, Bonnie..... I know you have such a hectic life, but you are an inspiration and show us all how to appreciate every second of your lives. You manage to take time to just enjoy the simple things and share it with us. Thanks for sharing it all with us.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing the photo of your family including your brother. Can tell you are related. Love seeing your dream coming to fruition. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the pictures!! The barn, the quilts and your family!! We just had our family reunion - at Wallowa Lake State Park in Oregon. What a great time!! Sure hope you get to see your brother this fall as you have planned! Thanks Bonnie for sharing all with us! Pam
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful family photo, still praying for you and yours with extra prayers for Brother Mark. I just love watching your Inn come together. I was thinking of you today as I was telling my sister about the Inn. I mentioned the old post office and the general store I told her that it was too bad that you had mentioned that you might have to tear the old store down. I thought it would make a great extra retreat sewing place for over flows or for large private classes with you, she thought it would be a great for a quilt store with fabric and other things for everyone who would be coming. But with your post office store I imagine that would be too much. Best wishes I just love how you have shared every step with us. Thanks so much Bonnie, you touch more people than you know in such big ways.
ReplyDeleteHello Mom,Mark,Gail,Joy! Love Ikea too! Quiltvilla is shaping up fast. Love the posts and updates Bonnie
ReplyDeleteYou & your brother look just alike!
