The van is loaded, I'm ready to roll out to West Virginia in the morning.
I've spent the day taking care of business and kitting up more blocks -- I've yet to pack the sewing stuff. Do you ever feel in a conundrum on just what to take and how much?
Tomorrow night is my lecture, but before that I get to sew and AFTER that I get to sew because class doesn't start until Saturday morning. Class goes from 9 -4 and after 4 I get to sew some more!
Sunday is just a half day class ---and I need to head home as soon as class is over, I'll have just Sunday evening and Monday home because I head out to Florida on Tuesday ---it's the last big push of this year and it will be 2 days before Thanksgiving before I can really unpack my bags again.
I may just end up taking a featherweight and a box of crumbs and just piecing away on some Wild & Goosey blocks, they sure haven't been touched in a while!
TONIGHT though -- look who is home after having herself a rewiring job! Dagny, the Atlas! And no, she doesn't count in the "no more machines" statement I made earlier. I already had her, she was just getting her wiring done and now she is home to play.
I'm going to be sewing on her tonight ---come join me!
Bring a project, sit a while, stay a while.
If there is sound but no picture hit the play arrow and the pause button and then the play arrow again.
Ustream is a free service, so we sometimes don't get the best quality, but we try!
Be sure that your flash player is up to date. Try a different browser. I recommend Google Chrome. When all else fails reboot your computer and try again!
Leave a comment in the comments section below, or in the blue guestbook button found in the left hand side bar. I'll try to answer as many questions as I can while still managing to sew a bit ;)
I'll be hanging around for the next 90 minutes or so ---
There is a new quilt each time I tune in...Are you superwoman???
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteI've been watching you online for several weeks. Now when my husband comes in from work he says " you are watching that Bonnie girl again". I don't think he quite gets it but he no longer thinks it is strange. Even if I am not sewing I still enjoy watching. Thanks so much for your contributions for the quilt world.
Cathy in AZ
I am rebooting now...the feed was slow!
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie:
ReplyDeleteYour doing repeative blocks is good for us to see and work with. Devoting 2 hours in the evening to quilt with you is helping me to get my projects finished too. Paula in Omaha
Hey Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteSewing strings tonight as the drawers are busting..Zoom Zoom!!! Liz
U started fine, now offline. Check to see if unplugged
ReplyDeleteYou're back! Sorry, did not read your message before writing
Deletelooking good here now.
ReplyDeleteI am working on Charlotte's Baskets... strings mostly and stitching the last seam of the baskets in between...leader/ender style
ReplyDeleteIt's good now!
ReplyDeleteexcellent on my side,Bonnie!
ReplyDeleteThe sound is good, the video is choppy but ok
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie, no quiling tonight. We were supposed to begin moving today but the contractors are not done. So all my sewing things are packed and we have to wait another week!!! lol Hopefully, it will be finished by Wednesday
ReplyDeleteWorking well in TN. ;0)
ReplyDeleteI thought all your millions of fans must have broken the feed, at first. ;)
Hi Bonnie, I have a question about Easy Street. If we change the main colors, would it still be ok to use the grey and black and white? I was thinking of blue, maroon, and gold but since I'm new to scrappy, I'm hesitant because I don't know if that would work. Thanks for sharing so much! Susan
ReplyDeleteI tuned in a bit late. How do you like your new baby?
ReplyDeleteLove watching, Ellie
Vicki from Missouri..I am quilting along with you and working on my Second Time Around Quilt. I have the sashing on and now putting the rows together. You will know it as your Star Gazing quilt. Our local quilt show taught a class on it.
ReplyDeleteI bought a lot of "sale day" shirts at Goodwill and having great fun cutting them up. I have a question: When you have all the pieces of cut-able pieces (the back, fronts etc.) do you store them in your stash or in a separate place?
ReplyDeleteLooking better now! I went to my local fabric shop today and found a bolt of CHEDDAR! Your bowtie quilt has inspired me to make a cheddar quilt too!
ReplyDeleteBonnie - try some raw honey on that cut - just put just a dab under your bandage tonite before you go to bed and you will be very surprised how well your finger feels and how quickly it heals.
ReplyDeleteThe emergency personal would not even stitch a slice like that-they would use a type of Crazy Glue to hold the edges together. I used it years ago to keep a rotary cut slice together and have no scar! Beats having to keep it dry and the flap of skin never came off-reattatched to the skin!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie, It's nice to see another quilt on your long arm. It's beautiful! Question: Do you use steam when you're pressing your pieces?
ReplyDeleteNo she doesn't use steam when she is ironing her pieces.
DeleteI love the quilt ladder in your dining room. Where on earth do you find them??? I've looked for one for a long time.
ReplyDeleteI am glad the WD40 worked. Just cutting up scraps tonight! Also have a Turkey Wallhanging to work on too!
ReplyDeleteAileen from Fl
Bonnie, I'm new to the quilting game, but I wondered if a strip swap in the mail works. Fill a flat rate box with ? 2.5" strips and send it to the next person on a list who takes out what she likes and replaces with same. Then mails to the next person? Does it work? Or is it too much hassle?
ReplyDeleteDeb
oh yea, Netflix- watch Raising Hope too funny!!
Hey Bonnie, when you go to retreats, are there any recurring themes that you see in different guild's retreats? Any fun games that are quilt-related that you've seen?
ReplyDeleteI finally changed my rotary blade after way too long. OH so that is how it is suppose to work. I will not wait so long for the next change.
ReplyDeleteLove the star quilt....can't wait to hear when you begin to quilt it!
ReplyDeleteI put two blades in my rotary cutter once and it sure shredded every time I cut a fabric. My 7 shirts I got for 1/2 price are in the dryer. So glad to get to watch/listen again tonight.
ReplyDeleteOMG.. PaddleTalk! I forgot all about that.. how funny! They need to make those again.
ReplyDeleteStella in VA
hey Bonnie,
ReplyDeletePicked up 6 1/2 yard pieces of lime green today. All colors are ready.
Need to decide whether to purchase white with black or to stay with the tone on tone.
Finished my scrappy mountain majesties blocks last night while I was watching quiltcam. Now, I just need to press and design my layout.. I can't wait! Mine is Purple mountain majesty, can you guess why. Ramona from Maine
WooHoo, Bonnie I actually have video tonight! I'm binding my "Mountain Trail" from Lori's SAL while I "watch"!! : )
ReplyDeleteDagny is sweet! Its fun seeing all these old machines coming out to play.
ReplyDeleteI have to say I have enabled one of my quilting friends out here in Australia to join in with the mystery, with any luck the stars will align and we can have some piecing time together over your mystery quilt. Thankyou for posting it... and tell me do you think if I substitute clear yellow instead of lime green it will work well? Thanks for your advice!
I inherited a batch of 4.25" apple green squares will they work in easy street? Maybe that is asking for too much info
ReplyDelete;o)
Hi Bonnie, Mary in Canada, back in Canada finally. Just arrived in an hour ago and unpacking while I watch you. Stopped at a quilt store in MA today to find some gray and while I looked DH told her all about Quiltville and the November mystery. LOL.
ReplyDeleteLove this! Trying t get my projects "kitted" together for a quilt retreat. Ugh, so hard to decide what to take. That machine sounds great, by the way.tonight doing some mindless strip piecing:)
ReplyDeleteI love you Bonnie! You are the most REAL quilter on the web :-) <3
ReplyDeleteJUst got on! Not sure if anyone has mentioned it but I found the spiders 50 percent off at Walmart just now! Be great gifts next fall!
ReplyDeleteRondi
Hi Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteJust returned from the Dallas area where I loaded up mt stash at the Quilt Asylum! They are the best. I was also fortunate to spend four hours ay the Houston Intl Quilt festival. Looking forward to seeing you at class in Lansing/Okemos, Mi and at the Quilt Asylum in January.
Hi! Tonight I'm folding fabrics pulled and washed for Easy Street! I'm so excited to join in the fun. I'm wonding if you've ever considered offering the "linky party" on Wed/Thurs following a clue. I don't get a chance to sew on the weekends since in a military family, it's the only family time we get (when we get it). Just wondering...might be fun to see progress on the day before the next clue is posted, maybe!?!?!
ReplyDeleteJust tuning in, sat in the neighbor's driveway for 1/2 hour while people looked at the house. WHY do people insist on looking at a house at dinner time. Anyway, in case I missed it--what's the story on the lovely quilt behind you?
ReplyDeleteAs soon as I eat some dinner I will be working on the binding on my bowties--yippee!!,
So glad you turned the cam on, my closest quilting friends are 30 miles away, my mom and I used to sew together. We would be working away only to realize it was 2 or 3am, grown and say ok let me finish this and we will hit the sack, which was often 5 am. I lost Mom in January, it's fun to sew with you when I can't be with my quilting friends.
ReplyDeleteFrom Sunny but cool Florida!!
So sorry to hear about your Mom.... Sounds like you all were very close. Said a prayer for the repose of her soul and comfort for you. B
DeleteHi Bonnie... Here in NJ, working on hexies while enjoying quilt cam. Does this machine have a name... did I miss it?
ReplyDeleteGood evening Bonnie... I am so glad that there was a shout out on the HGTV Quilting Forum.. I was here updating my website while hubby watches ballgames... I need some sewing with friends time!
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie! Wish I was going with you this weekend, Sounds fun. Any updates on the retreat you are planning for August?
ReplyDeleteJust watching and listening to you talk to yourself.
ReplyDeleteWaving Hi from Ontario! I have a palette of 30s type in yellow, purple, blue, and pink on cream for your mystery quilt. Although I may need to buy more pink. And I am not sure which will be which yet compared to your colours.
ReplyDeleteI will be getting my EPP out once I clean up a bit...
I LOVE that quilt on your machine! Those stars rock!
ReplyDeleteI'm sewing along and finishing some Rectangle Wrangle "uphill" blocks". Hope to start sewing blocks together tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteFor the reader who wants to know how to get stickers off the dresser. Try using the blow dryer to heat up the sticker and it should peal right off...this works for getting crayons off the wall, etc. too. Ask me how I know, lol!
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie quiltjoy in Virginia love quilt cam working on my happily scrappily Irish chain and spool blocks. A question when you make 4 patches how do you press your seams?
ReplyDeletegwizpro.com also sells ladder quilts-custom made and reasonable pricing. That's where I got mine.
ReplyDeleteIf you heat the sticker all over with a hairdryer, the glue softens and you can peel it off in one piece. They do that in the shops with price stickers. Any oil like eucalyptus, tea tree oil or even fly spray will dissolve glue residue from stickers. Horrible things they are.
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie!
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering how you keep the cat hair off what you are sewing and out of your machines. It seems I always have cat hair on everything and I haven't found a way to keep it from collecting on the fabric or machine. What's your secret?
Diane in Phoenix, AZ
I know all repair shops are different, but curious about how much did the rewire cost?
ReplyDeleteI have an old machine that needs it too. It was so bad the former owner had even cut off the plug!
I just signed up for Pandora and am listening to Uncle Kracker while we sew away! I am working on some hexies for a quilt I have in the works called MY Hippy Flower Garden.
ReplyDeletePandora is cool!
I love how you show off a different quilt top on your LA every time the cam is on...love the eye-candy :) Inspiration for all of us. Since I have 40 tops to quilt from my stay in Florida last year (house/pet sitting for my daughter while she was deployed to Afghanistan), I guess I could do that for a while! Finger cots work well instead of bandages when you are sewing and want to feel the seams nest.
ReplyDeleteHi, Bonnie, I am here with you tonight while working on some pink ribbon paper pieced blocks for some small quilts donated by Carol Doak followers. I am using my little Hope, my FW. Hubby is having band practice upstairs and they are working on some Christmas songs. Right now they are singing O Holy Night, a capela, even. Sounds great, and am glad to have the music.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you put your pieces in when you kit up your blocks?
ReplyDeleteSandy K Magnolia Springs TX
Hi Bonnie! Joyce G. here. Still vacationing in Gulf Shores AL. Was wondering if you've started thenew J.K. Rowlings book yet and how do you like it?
ReplyDeleteThat's not bad at all. I expected much higher.
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie, Sewing with you tonight on the 4th row of Crabappples. I should be getting ready for vacation but I didn't get to sew last night. Hope you have a safe drive tomorrow.
ReplyDeletehugs, charlotte
Bonnie, loved your comment about the patchwork being primary and the quilting secondary. That's how I feel about mine. So, are we quilters or patchworkers?
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie, Good to see you. Your stash organizing is impressive!!
ReplyDeleteShanon from Ohio
Hi Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteDoing some machine quilting tonight along with quiltcam. Love the quilt on your longarm and looking forward to Easy Street!
Hi Bonnie - lovely sounding machine!! I love your cat. Thank you so much for sharing him with all of us as well as Shaley (sp?). I'll follow along with your new mystery quilt, but doubt I'll do it at this stage. I'm working on a quilt "Celtic Squares". I'm not in love with the fabric for this any more, (it's moons, stars, suns & very dark) but I have to finish it before I start anything else. I'll never finish it otherwise. What method of cutting out your pieces do you use? Wet newspaper works well for getting sticky things off. Place wet (not dripping) newspaper over the sticker, leave it there for a few hours & the sticker should just "slide" off. Hope it works for someone. Enjoying the show today. Thanks again.
ReplyDeleteSorry if this has been asked before, but what thread and color do you use when piecing your quilts. I also just purchase a vintage machine-a Singer 15-91. Love it!
ReplyDeleteFeel like a pest tonight, but I just remembered the most important thing I wanted to share with everyone!
ReplyDeleteAll the JoAnns around here are out of the spider cupcake spider holder you got as a pincushion, but they are still in the plowhearth.com site, under the sale section! 4/$6.99
Deb
Hi Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteJust got our power back tonight here in NH. 3 days w/out internet or TV or a sewing machine and trying to do needlework by candlelight is not easy, LOL.
Gail
Have a great time on your retreat.
I am watching from Hervey Bay near Fraser Island (world's largest sand island) on the East Coast of Australia, I have finally worked out that Quiltcam starts about 11am my time if you are on, so glad to have worked out the time difference
ReplyDeleteit is now noon Friday
DeleteBonnie,
ReplyDeleteTonight is my first night to get to follow you on quiltcam. It's great. I'm working on a baby quilt or my new great grand son.
Hi bonnie. I was just thinking Dagny would be a great machine to take along when you are staying in a hotel because it is so quiet. Oh and I deboned 8 shirts today!
ReplyDeleteLove those moth in the window blocks. I have a lot of plaids, would like to try it. I am still hand quilting on my Christmas quilt. Almost done. Kathy
ReplyDeleteMy granny Ida swore by cornerstones. When I sashed my very first quilt together I did not use cornerstones. I was so proud of that quilt!
ReplyDeleteBut... when I showed it to granny she said "hmpft, I wouldn't have it!"... Just crushed my spirit... but she looked at me and with her dip of snuff stuck securely in her lip with her tongue holding it in... She said "If it ain't worth doing right, then it ain't worth doing a'tal!"... and I have lived by those words my whole life... No matter what it is I do.
And we all know there are no quilt police... but my Granny Ida lives in my sewing room so I have to behave! ha!
Hi Bonnie.... Does this machine have a name, I don't think I've heard i once tonight!
ReplyDeleteJust thought I'd ask how you leg is doing?
ReplyDeleteBonnie,
ReplyDeleteWhat batting do you prefer to use in a bed quilt so that it is drapey and snuggely?
Thanks,
June
I use a clean toilet brush and run is over the rug around me after I stop sewing for the day. Works great and saves dragging out the vacuum all the time.
ReplyDeleteI have a Singer Genie, and manual. Missed the problem, but will help if I can.
ReplyDeleteJudy
you can also use glue on your cut. works great every time.
ReplyDeleteBonnie,
ReplyDeleteI have 2 Singer Genies. They are worth the clean up. They are a workhorse. I have mde oodles of the fabric bowls with them They are fom the mid 70's.
Bonnie, I just did the same thing my sewing my finger and ripping it out. Try a regular bandage and go to the pharmacy and find finger cots. They will cover your finger and keep it dry.
ReplyDeleteBonnie, your flapping skin sounds like a trip to some medical care. We don't want you to have an ugly infection.
ReplyDeleteGood night Bonnie, thanks for quilt cam! Cool name! Enjoy your trip!
ReplyDeleteBonnie, I used to get lots of cracks in my fingers, had to wash my hands a lot as I was in a medical environment. The very BEST thing that worked was holding the crack (or cut, as in your case) tightly together and running a light bead of super glue along the cut line. It generally lasted a good two to four days. Good luck. Absolutely enjoy quilt cam and I thank you for spending time with us. Liz
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie! While in WV, will you visit any Quilt shops?
