The van is loaded, I'm ready to roll out to West Virginia in the morning.
I've spent the day taking care of business and kitting up more blocks -- I've yet to pack the sewing stuff. Do you ever feel in a conundrum on just what to take and how much?
Tomorrow night is my lecture, but before that I get to sew and AFTER that I get to sew because class doesn't start until Saturday morning. Class goes from 9 -4 and after 4 I get to sew some more!
Sunday is just a half day class ---and I need to head home as soon as class is over, I'll have just Sunday evening and Monday home because I head out to Florida on Tuesday ---it's the last big push of this year and it will be 2 days before Thanksgiving before I can really unpack my bags again.
I may just end up taking a featherweight and a box of crumbs and just piecing away on some Wild & Goosey blocks, they sure haven't been touched in a while!
TONIGHT though -- look who is home after having herself a rewiring job! Dagny, the Atlas! And no, she doesn't count in the "no more machines" statement I made earlier. I already had her, she was just getting her wiring done and now she is home to play.
I'm going to be sewing on her tonight ---come join me!

Hi Bonnie, I have a question about Easy Street. If we change the main colors, would it still be ok to use the grey and black and white? I was thinking of blue, maroon, and gold but since I'm new to scrappy, I'm hesitant because I don't know if that would work. Thanks for sharing so much! Susan

I bought a lot of "sale day" shirts at Goodwill and having great fun cutting them up. I have a question: When you have all the pieces of cut-able pieces (the back, fronts etc.) do you store them in your stash or in a separate place?
Looking better now! I went to my local fabric shop today and found a bolt of CHEDDAR! Your bowtie quilt has inspired me to make a cheddar quilt too!
Bonnie - try some raw honey on that cut - just put just a dab under your bandage tonite before you go to bed and you will be very surprised how well your finger feels and how quickly it heals.
The emergency personal would not even stitch a slice like that-they would use a type of Crazy Glue to hold the edges together. I used it years ago to keep a rotary cut slice together and have no scar! Beats having to keep it dry and the flap of skin never came off-reattatched to the skin!!!

Bonnie, I'm new to the quilting game, but I wondered if a strip swap in the mail works. Fill a flat rate box with ? 2.5" strips and send it to the next person on a list who takes out what she likes and replaces with same. Then mails to the next person? Does it work? Or is it too much hassle?

I finally changed my rotary blade after way too long. OH so that is how it is suppose to work. I will not wait so long for the next change.

I put two blades in my rotary cutter once and it sure shredded every time I cut a fabric. My 7 shirts I got for 1/2 price are in the dryer. So glad to get to watch/listen again tonight.

Hi! Tonight I'm folding fabrics pulled and washed for Easy Street! I'm so excited to join in the fun. I'm wonding if you've ever considered offering the "linky party" on Wed/Thurs following a clue. I don't get a chance to sew on the weekends since in a military family, it's the only family time we get (when we get it). Just wondering...might be fun to see progress on the day before the next clue is posted, maybe!?!?!
Just tuning in, sat in the neighbor's driveway for 1/2 hour while people looked at the house. WHY do people insist on looking at a house at dinner time. Anyway, in case I missed it--what's the story on the lovely quilt behind you?

So glad you turned the cam on, my closest quilting friends are 30 miles away, my mom and I used to sew together. We would be working away only to realize it was 2 or 3am, grown and say ok let me finish this and we will hit the sack, which was often 5 am. I lost Mom in January, it's fun to sew with you when I can't be with my quilting friends.

For the reader who wants to know how to get stickers off the dresser. Try using the blow dryer to heat up the sticker and it should peal right off...this works for getting crayons off the wall, etc. too. Ask me how I know, lol!

If you heat the sticker all over with a hairdryer, the glue softens and you can peel it off in one piece. They do that in the shops with price stickers. Any oil like eucalyptus, tea tree oil or even fly spray will dissolve glue residue from stickers. Horrible things they are.

I'm wondering how you keep the cat hair off what you are sewing and out of your machines. It seems I always have cat hair on everything and I haven't found a way to keep it from collecting on the fabric or machine. What's your secret?

I love how you show off a different quilt top on your LA every time the cam is on...love the eye-candy :) Inspiration for all of us. Since I have 40 tops to quilt from my stay in Florida last year (house/pet sitting for my daughter while she was deployed to Afghanistan), I guess I could do that for a while! Finger cots work well instead of bandages when you are sewing and want to feel the seams nest.
Hi, Bonnie, I am here with you tonight while working on some pink ribbon paper pieced blocks for some small quilts donated by Carol Doak followers. I am using my little Hope, my FW. Hubby is having band practice upstairs and they are working on some Christmas songs. Right now they are singing O Holy Night, a capela, even. Sounds great, and am glad to have the music.

Hi Bonnie - lovely sounding machine!! I love your cat. Thank you so much for sharing him with all of us as well as Shaley (sp?). I'll follow along with your new mystery quilt, but doubt I'll do it at this stage. I'm working on a quilt "Celtic Squares". I'm not in love with the fabric for this any more, (it's moons, stars, suns & very dark) but I have to finish it before I start anything else. I'll never finish it otherwise. What method of cutting out your pieces do you use? Wet newspaper works well for getting sticky things off. Place wet (not dripping) newspaper over the sticker, leave it there for a few hours & the sticker should just "slide" off. Hope it works for someone. Enjoying the show today. Thanks again.

My granny Ida swore by cornerstones. When I sashed my very first quilt together I did not use cornerstones. I was so proud of that quilt!
But... when I showed it to granny she said "hmpft, I wouldn't have it!"... Just crushed my spirit... but she looked at me and with her dip of snuff stuck securely in her lip with her tongue holding it in... She said "If it ain't worth doing right, then it ain't worth doing a'tal!"... and I have lived by those words my whole life... No matter what it is I do.
And we all know there are no quilt police... but my Granny Ida lives in my sewing room so I have to behave! ha!

I use a clean toilet brush and run is over the rug around me after I stop sewing for the day. Works great and saves dragging out the vacuum all the time.
I have a Singer Genie, and manual. Missed the problem, but will help if I can.

I have 2 Singer Genies. They are worth the clean up. They are a workhorse. I have mde oodles of the fabric bowls with them They are fom the mid 70's.
Bonnie, I just did the same thing my sewing my finger and ripping it out. Try a regular bandage and go to the pharmacy and find finger cots. They will cover your finger and keep it dry.
Bonnie, your flapping skin sounds like a trip to some medical care. We don't want you to have an ugly infection.

Bonnie, I used to get lots of cracks in my fingers, had to wash my hands a lot as I was in a medical environment. The very BEST thing that worked was holding the crack (or cut, as in your case) tightly together and running a light bead of super glue along the cut line. It generally lasted a good two to four days. Good luck. Absolutely enjoy quilt cam and I thank you for spending time with us. Liz
