Isn't this little guy cute?!
I'm always up for a cause, and when this one came into my inbox, I thought I'd pass it on to you. The following email is from Barbara P:
Bonnie...
I know you are a dog lover too, so I thought I would let you know that I have donated the "Boxy Stars" quilt I started in your Woodbridge, VA workshop last summer to the Ohio Toy Breed Rescue. I just adopted a puppy from them, and know they have incurred some huge vet bills-- many of their dogs come from puppy mills. They are auctioning the quilt on ebay to defray some of the costs. You were, of course, credited as the pattern creator in the listing.
If you feel it is appropriate, could you post the information on your blog? I am sending the email I just got from Ohio Toy Breed Rescue. One of the pictures has another rescue dog, Jackson, sitting on the quilt. If the pictures don't email well, I can send you another attachment.
Please let me know if you can help. I know you must get lots of requests, so I will not be offended if you decide not to post this. (but it sure would reach a lot of people!)
Thanks, Barbara Powers
I'm happy to help Barbara! And you did an awesome job on the Boxy Stars quilt. I love the stars you put in the sashing too..that orange is just the ticket!
The quilt is up for auction on EBAY! Perhaps this will tug at some of your hearts to go and place a bid.
I talked to a dog rescue in Tampa the other day and they said everyone is overloaded with pets right now. It started with Hurricane Katrina when so many shelters took in New Orleans pets, so much so, they became unable to accept the pets abandoned in their own area.
ReplyDeleteNow with so many foreclosures, there are tons of pets being abandoned right now. The shelters and rescues can't take them all in. It's really sad. I wish more people would resue dogs and cats. Our neighorhood is full of left behind dogs and cats and we've tried to help everyone that has come to our door.
Thanks for doing this. Thank you Barbara as well, for your big heart and for doing your part to help the rescue.
I just adopted a new baby this week, she had a rough start. The shelter had 2 come in, both lived in a crate, stained yellow from their urine. This one had an eye injury, no one wanted her, she fits in my family great so far.
ReplyDeleteBonnie,
ReplyDeleteMy sister lives in MO, which she says is a very proliferate area for mills. She and a friend started a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel rescue and are fostering dogs. It is sick what the millers do, truly horrendous how they treat the females especially. I hope that beautiful Boxy Stars earns plenty!
Awww. what a wonderful cause. Puppies and quilts in the same picture, sure to elicit lots of $ straight from the heart.
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful...a great idea for sure!
ReplyDeleteI just posted my own Boxy Stars. Thanks for the pattern!!
Great Idea...quilts can raise money for all kinks of good causes! A great way to use our talent. Hope it does great on Ebay!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful! I'm passing this on to the rescue group in our area...I'm sure there will be some bidders among them!
ReplyDeleteWe just had a silent auction/afternoon tea to raise money for the rescue group. I donated a tea set and made two pound cakes. We did really well...sooo sad but so good at the same time.
Awww, such a cute pup!! I will go and check out the auction.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great setting for the Boxy Stars!! Fantastic to donate it to a good cause .... up to $217 on eBay when I checked :)
ReplyDeleteBonnie, Thank you so much for supporting animal rescue, a cause I personally feel strongly about. And yes, that little guy on the quilt is precious. The quilt is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous quilt...sweet puppy...great cause! As an artist supporter of the Humane Society here I have to say BRAVO to Barbara for her creativity and generosity...I hope they make LOTS of money!!
