Quilt-Cam 12/28/2013

Here we go again – New programs, new web cams, new frustrations, but we will learn it one way or another!

This webcam is a LOWER end one, so hopefully it will be LESS technical and allow the camera to focus on ALL of the screen, not just the item closest to the screen, blurring out what is in the background..namely..ME!

We can hope...can't we?  

I'm working on Wonky Wishes blocks made from Maverick Stars!

Today I've got out the Electrohygiene machine...I felt in the need for green!

And I just made a silly rhyme :)

Let's see if we can get this going shall we?

Boxy Stars is DONE!!

 It’s DONE!

Getting the binding, hanging sleeve and label sewn down by hand was my evening project over the past Christmas week while at the cabin.

I just LOVE what the yellow border has done for this quilt.

The dark purple I had "THOUGHT" would work has found it's place as the final binding, but would have been too dark for what was going on in the center, where there is already not that much light going on ---

The yellow was my LAST choice...but it is the one that worked the best, so let this be a lesson -- Do not be so set in your ideas that you miss the best choice just because your mind is already made up.



On the split rail fence at the cabin, in the afternoon sunlight ---this post is also a test to see what happens if I post the photos in Windows Live Writer, write ONE sentence and set the font size for it, send it over to Blogger and re-edit from here, adding the rest of the text.

You never know what will happen until you hit PUBLISH!  We shall see what this does.

I also want to stick in a quick reminder for Quilt-Cam this AFTERNOON at 2pm EST.  I'm going to try a new webcam out -- to see if it will focus better.  I may try another camera position so it doesn't focus on the closest object to the camera, which of course is the back of my machine.  This means we may shoot from the side a bit to keep things in better focus.

Thank you for putting up with me when conditions in the studio aren't optimal all the time -- this is not a professional job -- it's me, my machine, my laptop and an external camera.  It is what it is!

And with that, I'm off to Sam's club at an extremely early hour (It's 6:45am as I write this) because I forgot to pick up bubble mailers on the way home from the Cabin yesterday, and I need to get all the orders that came in since Monday off to the post office today ---and they close at noon!

Crochet a Snowflake Spool-pin Doily!

This post comes as a special gift from Cheryl who wants to thank us all for her new-found love of vintage machines!

I’m not so sure her hubby thanks us, but she is having a ball, and wanted to share her directions for a delightfully delicate spool pin doily with us so you can ditch the old red felt circle and dress up your vintage ladies the way they love to be adorned!

I love these in white, but I think they’d be equally fun in whatever color of crochet cotton you wanted to dress up your machine with!

There are only 4 rounds to each snow flake, so they should work up quickly for you.

Cheryl’s instructions are as follows:

You will need:

• size 3 crochet thread (I used a glitter white color, Red Heart)
• #5 (1.90 mm) metal crochet hook

Round 1
Chain 2, sc 8 into 2nd chain from hook.  Join with slst into first sc.

Round 2
work 2 dc into each stitch (16 dc) join with slst.

Round 3
Chain 7 *skip next dc, work 2 dc into next stitch chain 4** repeat from *to **.  Work one double crochet in stitch next to the 7 chains join with a slst into 3rd chain. (this makes 8, dc 4chain loops.)

Round 4
*sc 3 into chain 4 space, chain 3, sc 3 into same 4 chain space** repeat from *to**.  Join with slst into first sc.  Tie off thread, and weave tail into snowflake to finish.

Abbreviations:
dc-double crochet
slst-slip stich
sc-single crochet

A Piece-Full Afternoon!

This post is a test. 

It's a test to see if I can just upload my photos via Windows Live Writer, and then just insert my text over in Blogger where I can actually SEE what I am typing.

It is NOT the screen resolution.  I can change the screen resolution and the size of the text for the computer until the cows come home, but it doesn't change what goes on within Windows Live Writer.  

The font stays very small as a default and I can't see to write it.

When I forward the post as a draft -- everything is normal once I open it up within the Blogger interface -- it's something with Live Writer that is not Windows 8 compatible --it's too small to read..I mean minuscule... Like calibri in size 9.  dinky!!

Anyway, I think this will work for now.  What I like MOST about Live Writer is that I can set the default size for my photos...nice and large like this:

Blogger doesn't offer this size --their LARGE photo is the size that you see at the top of this post...and I'll often use that for the first photo in a post, but I like to be able to really SHOW You what I'm doing.  These photos are set at 550 wide. 

Can you see I'm working on my Wonky Wishes blocks?  The Cheddar Sampler is done --and I needed something quick to grab and go and this was it!  I need 30 blocks...which is 120 stars total.  Tutorial found HERE.

Masses of 2.5" Squares and light crumbs -- that's all that is needed!

I'm sewing on the Singer 15-30 1921 treadle with the Tiffany decals I brought home for $65 last June.  Click HERE for the story!

I've moved the treadle machine to where I can see the TV so The Hubster doesn't feel neglected.  Is there anything better than piecing during an NCIS Marathon the day after Christmas?  I'm a pretty happy camper!
