A Day in the Life of a Scrapaholic!

In between frustrations with this new laptop (and there are many)  I’ve been wheedling down on this very mis-matched pile of layer cake squares and turning them into blocks.

There have been strips and other random pieces added from my very limited cabin stash, and that is part of the fun. 

It’s a challenge to work with a smaller selection of fabric, and that is where the creativity comes in.

I think that is what got me hooked on scrap quilting in the first place.  Choosing the fabrics that go together, pairing this color to that color and seeing what different print styles do when placed together.  That’s the best part!

When you can finally push beyond the boundaries of sewing with “one designer – one fabric line” of pre-matched colors and styles, exciting things happen.

Projects On the Go!

My reasoning for coming back up to the cabin in Virginia on Tuesday was two-fold.

There was a “CHANCE”  that my tooth would be ready for this implant and I could start off my 2018 teaching year with a full set of teeth.

It was all dependent upon the lab, and though the dentist’s office was willing, due to the holidays, the lab won’t have it ready until NEXT week, and I’ll be warming my toes in the San Diego sun by then. but I do have good news:

I’ll get this tooth the day before my birthday toward the end of the month.  HOORAY!

New Year, New Laptop!

<sub>Today is the day I break in my new laptop.

Never before opened, never brought out of the box – and it is more than a year old.

It was time to replace the laptop a year ago, but the one I had running was like such a comfortable close friend, I didn’t want to relegate it to simply being the “Quilt-Cam” laptop in the basement at home.

It was running well, and had everything I needed on it.  I mean EVERYTHING.

All of my programs would have to be re-installed, especially the Open Live Writer that I use for writing blog posts offline (I love that capability when I am flying or somewhere with limited connectivity such as the cabin where a phone hot spot is required to connect) and I was dragging my feet because I wanted to do ANYTHING else rather than reload programs, and go back to the beginning of having to physically hyperlink everything within a blog post.

This program saves all of my hyperlinks so that when I type a word….the link is already there once I’ve set it.

But new year, new laptop.  Now that the mystery is done, And I’m starting a new year, it’s time.</sub>

6 Degrees and No Power!

Jeff is manning the wood stove this morning.

We’d been up for about 1/2 hour when the power went off in the house. 

It’s 6 degrees out.  The entire neighborhood is without power.

I’m so grateful for a wood stove as the temps inside the house start to drop to chilly.

It’s a clear sky sunny morning, just dreadfully cold and we don’t know what has happened to cause this power issue.

I’m grateful for a fully charged laptop and phone, and the ability to connect via hotspot to send this off….

Boy, does it feel like I haven’t blogged in a while.

We’ve had 4 days of rapid-fire mystery clues starting Friday, so exciting, and loads of writing but no opportunity to catch you up on what is going here.
