I've been on a mission to find out as much as I can find out about the different names of my current Vintage Rose Star project.
Why don't we have libraries like this?!
The murals are stunning, and yes, I can see the inspiration for a patchwork design from the kites that form a hexagon shape in the center of the rose windows.
Through my digging I found that he Oxford Rose star quilt block is also known by several other alternative names:

I could curl up in here for weeks!

That's it. I need to go to Oxford. I'm adding it to my bucket list.

I haven't found the Collinsville connection yet - I'm interested in knowing where and why so I'll keep digging.
And isn't it crazy how a quilt design can pass you by for years....and then all at once you have to dive in with both feet and everything you've got?
I wouldn't say I necessarily OBSESSED....but Infatuated? Oh, yes.
This is the pile I pulled from a neutral string bin to cut down as background pieces.
I am leaving the blocks in half-hexagons to avoid more y-seaming other than the first small triangles.
All of my colored pieces are coming from my scrap squares drawer. There are some REAL oldies in here and I'm happy to see them find a place to shine.
This is maybe 2 days of piecing.
And I've done little to nothing else.
I can't help myself...I keep pushing forward even though we have mystery season kicking off in about 2 weeks (Don't worry, I'll be ready!) and I've got all of my Tulip Swirl Leader & Ender blocks to put together - just need to decide on a layout. That may wait until my winter break when retreats are done.
I plan to get these block halves arranged and sewn into a row...
For those asking about a template, this is one I had from an EPP set that has been in my stash for YEARS. I went to find the source, it is discontinued.
I am seeing if the company that makes my seam guides will make these templates for me in this size.
I even looked that the Creative Grids kite ruler, but it doesn't seem to be made anymore. It's not on the Checker website at all. Not by title, or even product code.
I've been working on this for only a couple of weeks and folks already want to jump in, but please hold your horses until I get more info.
If you are too eager and can't wait - google will find you other similar sources, likely ion a different size with a different piecing method/layout.
There are paper shapes available at Paper Pieces and you can EPP this.
For the fall archives!
My favorite tree on my drive from the cabin to the QPO is starting to lose its gorgeous leaves more and more each day. It's been a delight to watch it change colors.
Has fall put on a show where you are?
The Brown Bird Bee ladies will be arriving this afternoon and I'm ready to welcome them -
Today? We are supposed to be 81 f degrees?!?!? Happy that nice weather is still hanging on a bit longer.
What do you have planned for your own Wednesday?
Quiltville Quote of the Day -
I just saw it yesterday.
Can I find it? Nope!
I'm sure I will stumble across it if I just stop looking.

I love your attitude, Bonnie! I too have lots of joy buried under piles of more joy.
ReplyDeleteA question for the group: is the quilt with the sentiment, a variation of Bonnie's or another pattern? I see the kites but the internal and surrounding hexagons made me wonder. The bigger pieces look more achievable to me as a beginner, plus it's so pretty! / Lynne
Sew and Quilt are an independent UK company who supply EPP products which include a wide range of paper and acrylic templates, including kites. Just in case you were interested. www.sewandquilt.co.uk
ReplyDeleteBonnie all your messages are appreciated - mundane or extraordinary.
Marti Michell has a multisized Kite ruler that looks like it may work.
ReplyDeleteI have to say that your quotes of the day always bring me laughter and joy, thank you!

ReplyDeleteWhat a lot of gorgeous things in your post today. The library is next level. These new blocks are so pretty. Your tree photos are showing the progression of the season, and i the quilt in the background of the quote has signatures from ALL OVER. I would really like to know the story on that quilt. Fascinating!
Paper pieces has acrylic templates with seam allowances for many of their shapes and sizes.
ReplyDeleteThe photo outside the library has me trying to figure out how that arc could be made in fabric - great border idea but want to do it with a folded piece sewn between two rectangles, and opened out. (no y seams) It would create a little "pocket" on each side of the seam. Perhaps one of the younger brains out there has a solution to offer ?
ReplyDeleteYou might want to check Paper Pieces for the kite template. Pat P
ReplyDeleteThe history of the block is Fun to learn. Studio 180 has a Template in this shape. Check Marti Michell's site. I will look and see if I've got one. Just in case I try to make this block. It's a Wow Wednesday. A day to play in my Quilting Zone. Yesterday was too busy for me. 2 weels, I can wait. Still need to finish Lupine and Laughter. Lol
ReplyDeletewould this set have the right template for your project? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BSLJ85T7/?coliid=I28CT93SP14ZIW&colid=1TNMH6516UGXY&ref_=list_c_wl_lv_ov_lig_dp_it&th=1
ReplyDeleteYou will find what you are looking for after you buy a new replacement. Is that another one of Murphy's laws?
ReplyDeleteBonnie, I love your new project/ passion. It has lit a fire under me, too, and I bought some inexpensive acrylic kite templates in a set that contains various sizes online. I tend to like very small piecing, so I don't expect to use the larger ones, but we shall see. First I need to finish my silk path ,but I also need to get fall cleanup done in my garden, so quilting has to wait till the rains come this fall. ☺️
ReplyDeleteP.s. what an amazing gorgeous library!!!
ReplyDeleteWow. This is really interesting. Will be really nice to see how it goes together.
ReplyDeleteWow . This looks really interesting. Look forward to to seeing how it all goes together,
ReplyDeleteBonnie, your infatuation has infected me and I just had to order that die. I fell in love with the pattern, but would never have the patience to cut the shapes "by hand". For those who like me, prefer to use a die cutting machine, Blue Wren has dies in this kite shape in several sizes. Shipping to US is not cheap, but a "girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do".
ReplyDeleteI found a set of acrylic templates at Tales of Cloth located in Australia. Her set is called Evensong. Only $6 to ship. My set is on the way.
ReplyDeleteThank you Bonnie for inspiring me to start a Rose star with my many scraps and piece it by machine, you were correct, it isn't that hard. Love the library ! Cindy A
