Happy Monday, folks!
We had our first frost over the weekend, and it looks like our warm fall is making its way out of here.
There is still some color left on the trees, but I know it won't last too much longer -
Our Craftours group out in front of Bran Castle, Transylvania!
What is not waving behind us is the flag of Romania - in the primary colors of Red, Yellow & Blue!
Yet another castle - what a great trip this was!
One thing that stood out to us as quilters was this little design on the walls of each of the historic sites we visited. Much mumbling between us..."That looks like a quilt block! We could paper piece that!"
Yes, we can paper piece that!
With some help from Hazel of course!
I just couldn't stop - I was on a roll!
Let's throw some Ohio Star variation blocks into the mix!
Those little sashings in the corners are connectors!
And look what they do:
Goodness Gracious, this was so much fun!
I went through my scraps and pulled in as many blues, yellows, and neutrals as I could while making the blocks.
Oh Hazel!
And borders for the perfect finishing touch!
I quilted Festival with a sandy-gold colored thread in an edge-to-edge design called Calliope by Patricia E. Ritter.
And I bound Festival in a medium blue print to finish the edge.
The backing? A toile print I had picked up in Paris many years before that needed a place to shine.
I love how this quilt turned out -
I kept this one moderately small for me - it's 63'' square at this point, but you could make it bigger by adding additional borders, or more more blocks to get it to the size you need.
At this size it's perfect for hanging on the wall, or putting over the back of a chair or the couch. Not all quilts need to be bed-sized.
Sparkling Stars!
A trip to Romania inspired this sparkling 2-block design in red, yellow & blue – the colors of the Romanian flag! Designed for foundation paper piecing by machine, this pattern includes Full color photos, printable paper-piecing templates, diagrams and piecing options.
Quilt size: 63’’ X 63’’
Optional but helpful: Bonnie K. Hunter's Essential Triangle Tool for the border units.
Traditional rotary cutting methods and paper piecing templates are given for those who don't have access to the ruler.
Intro pricing: I have placed Festival at 25% off in the Quiltville Store through 11/1/26. No coupon needed; Discount given at check-out.
And yes - there is a Gift-AWay!
I'll be drawing for 2 winners who will each receive a Festival PDF pattern from me AND a Facets of Yellow color roll from our friends at Cotton to Quilts!
And do check out their other color rolls! The Notable Neutrals rolls can't be beat for building up your own collection of fun neutrals for scrappy quilt backgrounds.
We will draw for our winners on Friday, October 30th!
Good luck, everyone!
Today: It's the LAST Day of retreat for the Brown Bird Bee girls - they've been quilting up a storm through the weekend.
I am cleaning house like a crazy person - my sister Joy, her hubby Mark and my 12 year old niece Emory are coming for a visit! They'll arrive tomorrow afternoon. They are staying the night. Because of this there won't be a Wednesday blog, so I'm giving you the heads up.
Some things need to take their time.
Fabric shopping is one of those things!
Have a marvelous Monday, eeryhone -
