String Rings Gift-Away!

Mid June!  It's Mid June!

The rhododendrons are blooming in the woods around the cabin. Gardens are bursting with color and the promise of delicious produce through the summer months.  I love mid June!

I also love mid-month PDF pattern releases - especially when it's one you've been watching me make from the beginning and waiting for release day so you, too can dig into your burgeoning scrap stash and start in on something new and wonderful.

Stitch your own rainbow with strings and stars!

It's String Rings pattern release day!

It started with this.

(It always starts with this!)

And I'm sure you have a lot of this too -

Every project we make leaves strings and strips worth saving - and definitely worth USING!

To eliminate bulk, and to make things extra easy - I do my string piecing on a WHOLE PAGE of phone book paper, and then cut the page into the widths I need.

No adding machine tape or short seams required.  Let's get this done!

Next up - who doesn't like a smattering of scrappy sawtooth stars?

One thing that is somewhat different for me - it's not often that I use ONE fabric as a background in any quilt - but this one just called for it.

Besides - I had a whole bolt of Essex Linen just sitting there.  At one point I thought I was going to hand quilt this quilt, but it got so bit that I caved and machine quilted instead.  I love the look of the linen and I'll be doing this again.

Any fabric yardage would be great here. (I'm thinking a grunge?!)  Or you could go completely scrappy - Let the colorful fabrics shine!

I assembled the top over a weekend at home - and this is where I decided that it just didn't look finished.  It needed a border.

More strings ahead!

Of course, this was at the same time that her ladyship Hazel Grey came into our lives in February. It's been four months already!

Now that's a finished quilt top!

I made String Rings big enough to fit the queen sized bed in bedroom #5 at Quiltville Inn.  It's time for a new quilt there.

If you want to make it smaller, simply leave of a section in width and/or length to make it the size you want.

And since I wasn't hand quilting after all, I dug into the "big florals" bin to piece a delightfully scrappy backing from the hunks and chunks on hand.  I love this!

Evidently, Hazel found it amusing, too!

Would you get on with the quilting, already?

String Rings was quilted with a baby pink thread in an edge-to-edge design called Calliope by Patricia E. Ritter.

I love how it turned out, and the thread color is just right.

Red binding for the win!

It fits the bed perfectly!

I could have added one more section in length to make it long enough for a pillow tuck, but I like it just this way.  It's 101'' X 101''.

Did it really make a dent in the scrap/string stash?

You'd think it would.

Then why is there still so much left over? LOL!

If your stash is overflowing with strips and scraps, String Rings is the answer! Full color photos and graphics and multiple construction options for piecing the way you want to piece. A scrap lover’s dream!

Includes string piecing on foundations, traditional rotary cutting with options, and foundation paper-piecing options for the connector "B" block.

Quilt Size: 101” X 101”

Optional but helpful: Essential Triangle Tool.

Traditional rotary cutting methods are given for those who don't have access to the ruler.

We will draw for our winners on Monday 6/29/26.

Good luck everyone!

Today we also resume retreats - and the Cotton To Quilts Sewciologist gang will arrive this afternoon.

There is much to do to get ready -

Hopefully I can also squeak in some flying geese paper piecing before the excitement starts.

Quiltville Quote of the Day -

  6. I saw a hint online about opening hard plastic packaging - use a can opener (electric or hand twist type)!
