Rainy Day Quilters -

This was my morning view as I came up the front steps to see how things were going.

Actually, I KNEW how things were going because there is nothing better than the sound of  quilters and coffee on the front porch as heard from the parking area below.

I just know it is going to be a good day when the quilters are also having a good morning!

Some in sweatshirts, some in shirt sleeves - it all depends if you are hot blooded or not because the rain continued, light and misty, all night, all day, all through last night, and is still misty/drippy this morning.

We are NOT complaining!

We have been so dry and we need this rain so badly, it can just continue with this soft and gentle late spring blanketing.  It's lovely.

And it didn't stop the quilters from quilting, of course.

Nor did it stop a good sized group of them from loading up a couple of cars and heading over to Galax for a quilt shop visit at Quilts on Main.

I'm sure they did plenty of retail therapy by the bags I saw them bringing back!

(Thank you for helping our local economy! We want to keep our quilt shop folk happy!)

Bright and springy for the win!

Fun fun! I love how some of the arms on the *asterisk* are short on purpose!

Any guesses what is going on here?

If you guessed Grassy Creek, you would be right!

Oh! I always love a scrappy classic nine-patch!

Set with scrappy neutral nine-patches is even better!

Flying geese for a medallion quilt underway.

And yes, I'm still making these!

When I thought I was "almost done" and I discovered that I was really only about 2/3 of the way done I started to get a bit discouraged.

But I looked around me, still surrounded by scraps and strings that could definitely keep going, and I decided that it was better to just keep sewing than save these same scraps for another day.

And guess what?  I'm now about 3/4 the way there!

My advice? When there is still a long way to go, just stop counting.  Short seams go fast.  Just keep sewing.

I'm pinning blocks in sets of 10 and that makes it easy for me to count from time to time, but mostly - I'm just sewing.

Here's a little bit of something that I do when it comes to questionable neutrals:

Some fabrics, especially ones with rather large prints do not cut up into the most usable of pieces. I loved this cute typewriter print, and while there was a lot of white background around the typewriters that worked easily as small triangles for my piecing, every once in a while there was a whole typewriter on the triangle that made it less of a neutral and more of a color.

Could I still use this piece?  Yep!

Turn it upside down!

You paid for both sides of the fabric - Use them!

Now that this is sewn into here - can you really tell?  Now that you know what is on the flip side, yes, you could point it out, but do you think it will matter once this quilt is assembled, quilted and bound?

I don't!  And the fabric is better used in the quilt, than tossed into the trash can because it was a wrong color for what I was working on.  And do I want to save it for a down-the-road project that I may never get to? Nope again. Sew it in now and be done with it and move on.

Scraps are mounting while you are busy trying to make decisions! LOL!

I've still got a long way to go, but I'm getting there.  I love this color combo.  I loved it when we did our Unity  quilt and I'll likely return to it again at some point.

But suffice it to say that I think I'll need a break from it by the time this quilt is done.  HA!
