Day On The Run -

We've had this issue with Lola before.

I think it was a couple of years ago while I was on all of the make up back-to-back international trips post Covid.

There was a whole month where I went from Egypt strait to Ireland and did two consecutive Ireland tours to get all of those delayed trips in.

At any rate - Lola developed an intestinal blockage and Hubster Dave had to rush her to the emergency vet.

We've been on high guard watching for signs of another occurrence ever since.

Yesterday  morning she was showing those signs. (Really gross, won't get into it) so I called the vet to get her in right away.

Of course. It was a Friday.  The weekend was coming on.  She had to go!

Her appointment was at 11:50am, and it's an hour drive to get there.

She is okay. And yes, I should have my own reserved parking spot at the vet after all we've gone through in the past several months. But she is okay.

Blockage cleared, all of her food is fine.  Recommended a water fountain for her to encourage her to drink more water.  It's on order.

Got some meds to help.  An antibiotic shot because she was running a fever.  Anti-inflammatory because she needed one after all of that.

And at 16 we've had to up her MiraLAX to 1/4 tsp per day instead of 1/8 teaspoon to help with hairball impaction.

And last evening...

I found her nestled into the tent of my Hello, Gretchen quilt when I was hoping to get the hanging sleeve stitched down!

She was being extremely cute and very vocal/chirpy.  Of course when I tried to get her to chirp on camera, she wasn't having anything to do with it.

I'm just so glad she is okay.

I drove her home from the vet, got her settled and then returned to the retreat to see what the ladies had gotten up to.

Hand quilting in the Hen Den!

There is nothing like the texture of hand quilting!  If it weren't for wanting to finish up the eternal hexie quilt I'd have something in my hoop to hand quilt right now.  It's the ultimate in relaxation satisfaction!

This is very fun and colorful!

Evidence of hand stitching and applique happening here!

A vine awaiting flowers, maybe?

More hand applique happening over here!

And Foundation Paper Piecing Prep here!

If you are interested in travel, and in making Tara's Sovereignty quilt - join her on her Moroccan Retreat in Marrakech

Having just returned from Marrakech in January myself, I can't recommend this location highly enough. It's fabulous.  I hope I get to go back some day.

I wish I could go, but September has us in India! And I can't wait for that adventure as well. Are you coming with me? I hope so!

Pam got her luscious string quilt top together!

Is this a Dear Jane block I spy in lovely green and white grunge?

With Lola settled at home, and the quilty ladies all fine and dandy I was able to sit down, cool my jets, and piece two more  geesey/stringy blocks.

I am so happy I took a couple of days to empty out those two bins of random scraps and make them more accessible and useable this week!  Was it fun? No.  Does it help me be more productive in the future?  YES!

They look so good trimmed and de-papered!

I get this question a lot.  "Do you leave the papers in when joining blocks together?"

NO!

It makes it really hard to match points if you leave the paper in, and then once seams cross seams it makes it absolutely heinous to remove paper from the seam allowances.

Once the unit is pieced and trimmed the paper has has done its job and it is easier to remove BEFORE sewing unit to unit.  That's my preferred method.

Today?  We are headed to the park in search of ponies along the Appalachian Trail! (Which was delayed a day due to Lola's trip to the vet.)

How about you? What's up for your weekend?

Hello Bonnie. This is my first time commenting. I read your blog fathfully every morning with my coffee. Can't believe how prolific you are with your quilt making, No way I could keep up. Just a thought about visits to the vet. Have you ever thought about getting vet or pet insurance? I have been seeing commercials on TV lately. We don't have pets any more but I thought of you and all you have gone through the past few months. Don't know anything about it but it might be something to look at, One never knows. Love your quilts. I love doing them but am a slow quilter and am not as scrappy minded as you-more controlled scrappy, but love making them. Kathy in British Columbia, Canada

  6. It's a Double Header Saturday. I love watching baseball. Gotta get a machine tuned up. I broke a few needles trying a new embroidery pattern. Hoping it isn't too long at the spa. I do have a back up...

  7. OK. So who is up next on the list of pets? Haven't they all participated in veterinary support since the beginning of this year? Oh dear. Have you checked under the Inn? Is there a mama lurking somewhere with multiple needy wee ones? hahaha

Two things that have worked for me to increase kitty fluid consumption - First, poaching chicken with no seasonings and then saving the broth (freeze in ice cube trays if needed). Cats like this "soup," especially if it's heated a little above room temp and aromatic. Second, add water to the canned food or those Fancy Feast Appetizers (pure fish or chicken). Make it real soupy. We've been thru 2 different kitty intestinal surgeries and those tricks worked. Just some thoughts from someone else who keeps the vet's kids in college tuition yearly...

You are so fortunate! My fur baby ate some favric trimmings and had an obstruction. She needed $3500 surgery and no guarantee she woukd recover. I had already spent $2000 trying to,solve her skin condition and two visits for this until they figured it out. Also she no doubt would have done it again! I could not justify the cost. No more pets for me I just can't afford them...

We have a cat that develops urinary chrystals due to stress and lack of water. Our vet gave us 2 options. Give her portion on wet food with a little extra water stirred in. The other optionen we need a cat sitterwhkg of water. It's a tad pricy so we only use it whem we need a cat sitter.
