A Day To Play!

Somewhere around 6pm last evening.

Taco bar on the porch.  Make it a wrap, or a salad - your choice.  All the fixin's. Wonderful and delicious!

It had been a day of "Do what you want your own way" as the designated quilt shop hop day.

At one point there were only 2 people enjoying the quiet of retreat with all of the others out in search of the perfect fabrics for the quilts of their dreams.

Three cars hit the road.

Car #1 had folks that wanted a quick quilt shop run without lunch out and a speedy return back to the retreat so they could dive back in to sewing.

Car #2 had folks willing to hit the quilt shop, and then go out to lunch and wander an antique mall before returning.

And die hard car #3 was opting for an all day adventure with quilt shop, lunch out, and a second quilt shop!

All had a wonderful time and it was fun to see the treasures they brought back when they did return, depending on which car they were in.

While the retreat was basically empty it also gave me a "quilter's still life" opportunity to walk past sewing stations and see what progress was being made on our Moonflower workshop that will continue today.

There has been more pieces and parts productivity!

Layouts are happening!

In a variety of colors!

This one has me thinking of Ireland's fields of green -

No, that's not a bug on the wall.  It's a block quarter!

These blues and yellows are going to be gorgeous!

Back from shopping and back at the unit making!

And what did I get up to while the ladies were away?  More of my geese-y border blocks were made!

My attempt at organization is also going to the geese.  LOL! (I'd say dogs, but you know....)

I've done some pre-cutting of the red and neutral triangles that make up the geese strip that goes up the diagonal of the block. This is saving some time and giving me variety to choose from rather than having to dig for one scrap at a time to determine if it will go or fit.

I know that these pieces are "big enough" to do the job before I sew them on to find that they are too small and miss their mark. (If you know, you know!)

The other bin or bins hold random neutral strings I'm working with for the neutral side of the block -

And yes, these are some of the aqua/turquoise strings you set when I was making my Huka Falls quilt after my trip to New Zealand.

Yes, I'm having a ball with these. Even if the paper piecing can be a slower process. I love how the paper piecing makes those geese SO precise!

"How much is that doggy in the corner?"

Here's what I've managed over the past several days.  Some days I have only made two.  Some days I haven't had sewing time at all.

Each block is like a project in itself and I know if I keep going I'll end up with something worth all of that time.  And I'm loving the colors.

Remember when we dud Unity in these colors? (Plus royal blue) I love red and aqua together.

This is this morning!!  Heavenly!

I'm glad I get to enjoy them for a few days before I leave for my mom's on Tuesday.  I know they'll be all done and gone by the time I'm back a week later.

I received an email from Tara Miller of the Quilt District last evening letting me know she had uploaded her video of our yearly quilt turning!

I love the stories that are told about each item, whether it's a quilt newly made, a quilt from generations past, or a hand-stitched item that is not a quilt but tells an inspiring story. Enjoy!

As we go into the weekend today's plans include - Morning dirt road hike! YAY!

And then we'll do spend some more time with Moonflower and see how the rest of the weekend unfolds.  How about you?
