At the heart of every Austrian village stands the church.
He threw the ax with the vow, that where it landed he would build a church. When he found the ax after three days he built the church at this site on a rocky hill next to the lake.
The lake as we were driving around it to get to St. Wolfgang.
Sign outside of the church.
While I didn't do any filming inside the church (Because I was told not to!) I did find a video of St. Wolfgang in summer - and inside the church is included, starting at about minute 26:00.
Our winter view was a bit different, but the winding streets and Christmas Market vendors were full of magical items.
Yes, there was a cappuccino and a chocolate filled donut stop!
I'll save the de-papering for tonight. As for now - I've got more desk work to catch up on and I'd like all of that out of the way before Patty gets here.
And it's time for me to head next door to feed the kitties.
Quiltville Quote of the Day -

So charming!
Winding our way down to the shore to see the big advent candle.
Can you see how steep these streets are?
Yes, the sun was "almost" out, and there was a ferry going across to the next village - postcard pretty!
But baby, it was cold outside!
Beautiful resting place facing the lake and the mountains beyond.
I would love to see this side of Bavaria in the summer months - but going during Christmas Market time is pretty special too!
Yesterday's piecing haul.
My body clock is slowly adjusting though today I was up extra early.
Son Jeff is taking Hubster Dave for his follow up wrist surgery. He's developed some scar tissue from the surgery he had in March, and this should make everything better.
He needed to be to Hickory NC by 7:45 am. I can't drive in the dark, so Jeff stayed the night to take him.
AND...because we have the added addition of a frozen drive that the van can't handle, and because I can't drive in the dark, Jeff drove me in the van to the QPO studio, along with hubster Dave leading the way in the Subaru. They dropped me and the van at the QPO just before 6am and headed that way.
I'm awaiting the arrival of Patty the long arm fixer somewhere around 1:30pm today.
It's currently 28f with a high of 31f expected so I don't think that drive will be thawing out anytime soon.
I took some early morning time to finish trimming these up.
That kitty in the middle is an accidental fussy cut! So cute!
The creative process is so very important to us all.
Creativity also heals my soul when I am hurting or worried or otherwise out of sorts.
It puts my world back in balance!
Part Four of Lupine & Laughter is coming at you tomorrow!
Have a terrific Thursday, everyone -

A day with no creativity is a day lost in my world. Thanks for writing that. I feel the same way.
ReplyDeleteWhen I am unable to sew or create in any way my day is thrown off - and yes I create/sew when worried, concerned, angry - it is my therapy!
ReplyDeleteYour current project reminds of windows. The cat block is especially cute.
ReplyDeleteWindow...or a buckle!
DeleteWe've also 'reached that age' where we need a little help. I can't drive in heavy traffic (lots of Bay area folks moved up into Sacramento area & they drive very aggressively). Hubby had cataract surgery 3 weeks ago & we had to have him at the clinic by 6:45. Bless our son, he picked us up, took us there & stayed through the surgery & delivered us home several hours later. It's amazing what can be done with scar tissue after surgery (I had a knee replacement 2 yrs ago). Thank you for the travel photos of places we'll never make it to but really enjoy seeing. LOVE the blocks you're working on. Can't wait till I see the finished quilt as I know I'll be making one, too -- I'm also a scrappy quilter (50+ years). Merry Christmas to you and your family! ReplyDeleteMy craft/sewing room is my happy place. It is a true escape from all the trauma and responsibilities. At the moment it has had a tornado LOL. Christmas mess. Your trip looks so fun. Hope Dave gets some relief from his wrist issues. I do not envy your driveway. We are 66 today and sun. I would take some rain but you can keep the ice. Also prayers for your long arm. Hopefully a spa day will do the trick. B. Jackson
ReplyDeleteSo glad your boys could help get you to the QPO. Best of luck with your machine fixer. I got my Wedding gift Quilt finished last night early this morning. Didn't want to turn my machine off. I can sew on some Mystery parts to catch up today.. love the stories behind the pictures. You had a great trip.2 weeks until Christmas. Almost ready.
ReplyDeleteI have a HandiQuilter longarm that is giving me error messages about connecting with the motors too. My theory is that the cord that connects from the motor unit to the machine has been dragging around (but not catching on anything!) behind the machine for 12 years and the connector is now faulty. I have unplugged it and reinserted the plug and the machine works for a little while. Then back to the error message. Hope your issue can be fixed easily. Please let us know what caused the issue...Ann
ReplyDeleteI hope the long arm issues get fixed soon! The church is super beautiful and even though I am German I can't speak or read a lick of it. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI love it when a super cute happy accident happens like that! The blocks are looking great! Hugs to Dave and hope he heals soon. Happy quilting! :-)
I started watching The Sound of Music and St. Wolfgang lake is in the opening scenes! It is a breathtaking view of that majestic landscape!
ReplyDeleteSewing is part of wellbeing, can't imagine a day without it :0). did you travel with your hexie project? any updates? Good luck to Dave for a speedy recovery.
