Meet Stark.
Or Starky. Also known as Starky Barky or "NO NO NO!"
Also answers to "OUTSIDE!"
I've been waiting to share this story until we had an idea of what was going to happen, even if I knew in my heart just what was going to happen.
It started the week before Christmas when Ashlyn was on her way to work and witnessed a car pull a hit and run on a helpless puppy. She immediately pulled over.
An appointment was made for the next day to see about this little guy.
So Casden got a puppy for Christmas. But so did Ashlyn and Jeff.
A boy and his dog.
Welcome to the family Starky!
Yesterday after posting the blog, Hubster Dave came down and asked if I had noticed something with the water pressure being down.
I had showered earlier in the morning - and everything seemed fine to me?
Well, I went up to the kitchen to check at the sink, and dang it...that water was coming out definitely slower until there was nothing but a bare trickle.
Uhoh!
We were afraid it was the well pump - and of course we are in Chrimbo Limbo between holidays. What was the chance we could get anyone to come all the way out here 2 days before New Year's Eve?
Miracle of Miracles - we found someone who was pulling a well pump earlier in the day and they said they could come up in the afternoon.
I had already started working in my brain how we could all move into the inn if we were going to be without water for a while.
It turns out it is the pressure tank and something about the pressure tank switch - both are 25+ years old.
They will be back today to replace them. We have water. I am so grateful for simple things like running water!
My day - My desk.
This is where I spent my time yesterday - the only sewing happening was making a few step out units that didn't photograph well the first time around.
This will be ready for release with a gift-away on January 9th!
I leave for Morocco on January 20th and we need this all wrapped up before I go.
And yes, our friends at Cotton to Quilts will be offering up a couple of blue fabric rolls to go with the pattern for our winners.
Binding Progress -
I'm making my away around with this binding, usually with a cat also tucked between my knees making it hard to turn the quilt to get to the next side, but I'll take it.
Today - besides the new pressure tank installation - I'm not sure.
I may be pulling out those danged X-Plus blocks again and see if I can make some more progress there, but spending time at the desk writing up Stardust has me dreaming of another string quilt I'd love to dive into.
There are options - can I do a bit of both?
What are your plans as we run out the clock on 2025?
Quiltville Quote of the Day -
The upside is - we have water! And I have a chiropractor appointment next week.

Breeds as of yet unknown.
He was only about 9 weeks old. The leg has soft tissue damage, but no breaks and should heal fine.
There was blood in his urine that they were told to watch and if it didn't clear up, to bring him back.
That seems to have cleared up and he is the sweetest, best puppy boy!
There was talk of adopting him out once he was better, but I knew that wouldn't happen.
How can you take a puppy away from a 10 year old boy when he was already attached to him?
He was not microchipped. We figure he was dumped. It happens all too often out in rural areas.
Who knows how long he had been on his own at only 9 weeks old?
Those ears - they slay me!
Christmas morning photo.
It's all fun and games until your back goes out from doing something simple!
The upside is - we have water! And I have a chiropractor appointment next week.
Have a terrific Last Tuesday of 2025, everyone!

Aww Casden’s puppy is adorable ☺️ Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteLove the picture of a boy and his dog. It really started my day with a smile. Hope your water situation gets sorted easily. Living in the country is not for sissies.
ReplyDeleteYAY!!!!! for rescued puppy. I'm guessing you've heard this from your Mom. 7 puppies were shot in Garden Valley, 1 sibling survived. Heartbreaking how animals are (mis)treated in rural America. I'm guessing we always had about 200 cats on the dairy farm from all the dumping. We put out 5 gallons of milk everyday. Never once saw a mouse though ;-)
ReplyDeleteHappy Dec 30.
It's lovely to read such happy news. Congrats to the addition to the family. It was fate definitely. Looking forward to your pattern release, I just happen to have a pile of string blocks in green looking for a project!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your new grand puppy! -Amy
ReplyDeleteYeah, there's nothing like a boy and his dog. The look of pure joy on Casden's face is so heartwarming! Sparky looks so cute and by the size of his paws probably won't grow into a Marmaduke. Most likely a medium sized dog. What a cute face on the puppy! Here's to many years of fun to Casden and his new best friend!
ReplyDeleteIt's in the air...3 days before Christmas I noticed that our radiators were less than hot and the boiler was randomly firing. The house temp went down to 60° before it came back on. We are very thankful to have a heating company with excellent service and we were warm again in time for Christmas. However, it may only be temporary and we may be looking at replacing the heating system in 2026.
ReplyDelete🤞that it gets through the winter. This system is "only " 18 years old and replaced a behemoth ancient burner that was probably 100 years old. They really don't make them like they used to. Happy New Year and my wishes for a somewhat boring year!
I laughed so hard at your quote today!!! Bending over, watering poinsettias at church, I managed to pinch a nerve in my back. That resulted in very painfully walking with a cane!!!! Have been to dr and now on meds that should take care of the problem! But, really, watering plants??? Maybe a little too much bending over!! Anyway, LOVE the new family member!! So very cute and a boy definitely needs a dog. We instilled that in our boys - we have two dogs and both boys have two, also! All were here for Christmas- it was wild, but wonderful!! Love all that you do for us!! Jan P in Cosby, TN
ReplyDeleteStarky & Casden will be inseparable. Love this story. Happy last Tuesday of 2025.
ReplyDeleteThe good Karma you earned from rescuing the pup earned you a new pump just when it was needed.
ReplyDeleteI'm REALLY glad "Starky Barky" has a new home. He looks as content as his new boy! Every boy should have a dog....and I'm glad you all saved him! Happy and prosperous New Year Bonnie & family!
ReplyDeleteI love Starky and so glad he found a home! I also agree about the back pain issues, especially when using my longarm.
ReplyDeleteSo happy to learn Starky has found a loving forever family. He is a cutie pie and deserves a happy forever life.
ReplyDeleteThe Christmas Morning photo shows a happy smiling puppy. He knows he is safe. GOD Bless!!
ReplyDeleteSorry the back went out. I have a hip that is screaming. Slept wrong on it or something. Saw my Chiro last week. Might need to go back. There's a few more Quilts to finish this year. Water issues, not fun. The puppy is lucky to have a new family for Christmas. Did Mabel and Zoey like him too? Good luck getting X Blocks to behave. Between the Computer work.
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love the dog tale ..... I don't know who I'm happier for, the dog or the humans!
ReplyDeleteStarky has a new home and a boy to go with it. What a great Christmas gift. Their faces show the joy. Hope the water woes are solved. Looking forward to a Happy New Year. Brenda J.
ReplyDeleteOmg Bonnie he is so so so cute!!!!! What fun to have a puppy in the family! 😁 Our pressure tank is almost 35 yrs old.... your experience has me thinking.... 🤣 hoping to spend much of the rest of the year working on the mystery, thank you! I'm having a great time with it.. happy new year!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet face on your newest family member :0) Back pain is the worst, hope it is better today and gone soon. Happy Sewing, love your newest design Bonnie and working on Lupines and Laughter, thanks for getting me through Christmas!
ReplyDeleteSo Happy your little bloke got a Puppy.
ReplyDeleteI recently lost my girl , Kelsie , ( red dog ) after nearly 16 years miss her dreadfully.
so glad a rescue pup found a new home.
Best wishes for 2026. I'm kicking 2025 out the door.
King regards Roslyn
Starky is adorable! Reminds me of our Rosie who's crossed the Rainbow Bridge. We didn't know her breeding but there was a LOT in there lol! She was the absolute best little guardian!
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, I've had that exact (meme) scenario for a few days. Love both the blue star and scrappy quilts. Hurray for the rescue(!) and joy of a puppy to family matchup❣️
ReplyDeleteLaura H.
Yeah no-one takes Casden’s puppy. Not on Nana’s watch! Go Nana Go!
