Things that happen in the late night hours at retreat -
If you recognize this quilt in progress as our County Clare Leader & Ender challenge, you would be right. To a point!
This is what happens when things are set aside for a while, and then we come back to them, forget which way units rotate and just dive in with full gusto!
This is how new variations are discovered - and all variations are RIGHT if that is the way you want to go. It opens up other opportunities.
This one is arranged the way I did them!
So the green chains make a little circle when blocks are joined.
Now look at the top photo - the green chain units are rotated in the block, and this creates more diagonal chains - also very pleasing to the eye.
Both versions make wonderful quilts. So in this case...I'd turn the "small" one, where the greens are rotated ot make circles into a table topper or something, and then keep going with the ones where the greens form chains because more blocks have been made that way.
It's not worth picking out - just carry on and make something out of the "other" one. I love them both!
It rained all day yesterday. And I mean ALL DAY. Not hard rain, just misty and drippy and quite cool, so it was a good day to just stay in and sew.
We all ooohed and aaahhed at the lovely fabrics in this block
More on the design wall.
Pattern info.
Kare fell in love with the fabrics and bought the kit because there wasn't anything about it she would change. It's going to be gorgeous.
Log cabins are happening here!
More star blocks have been added to this bear paw variation in progress. Pattern info found in THIS POST.
Rows of Chex Mix blocks being joined!
Something wild is happening here!
This is the pattern.
I love the bold African prints against the purple grunge.
And while the rain and mist continued outside, I was cozy in my little post office studio making more string blocks from recycled shirt parts.
Only about 30 left to go.
Not sure if sewing will happen today. It's retreat check-out day which means all the laundry and everything that happens with flipping the house to get it ready for the June Quiltvillians arriving tomorrow afternoon will happen today/tomorrow.
And yes....it's still raining!
And since it is May 27th - guess what time it is?

Ha! My County Clare blocks were done the alternate way also. So it's County Galway.
ReplyDeleteCounty Claire is such a great Leader Ender. I love it both ways. Use one as the center add a solid border then put the other blocks around it. Easy peasy. Congrats to the winners. It's almost time for June! I have a full calendar. Need more Quilt time! Thanks for always inspiring me to make pretty Quilts.
ReplyDeleteLove the colors in that County Clare quilt whichever way it's put together. Also just wanted to say I like being able to read your blog in its own space without the distractions on other social media spaces. Thanks for devoting the time and energy to create g this peaceful place.
ReplyDeleteCongrats Cindy & Connie on your names being drawn for the prize. Thank you Bonnie, and CottontoQuilts for offering the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI love the colors in the County Clare, and both variations. Thanks for sharing them with us.

I love when accidental mistakes become someone's own design! County Claire is a great L/E. I'm working on my own as well. That definitely sounds like great staying inside & sewing weather. We had a good ole massive thunderstorm last night, waking us up in the middle of the night. Hopefully a little more tonight, but I just hope that it's not going to be at the time when we have to commute in. But, beggars can't be choosy. 6 more days with the kids, & that's a countdown I can get behind!! Although I love your countdown you have going on too!! :-) Happy stitching!
