Pineapple Blossom Beginnings!

Our Pineapple Blossom workshop with Nola's Bonniacs began with a flurry of machines yesterday morning!

This quilt has come out of the quilt vault with renewed vigor!

How many of us have leftover scrap strips? Partial jelly rolls?  This one is from the Free Patterns tab and works up so quickly - looking much more intricate than it really is.

And it is presented in two different sizes of blocks - one made with 2'' strips and 3 1/2'' squares, and the other larger version with 2 1/2'' strips (That's where the jelly roll leftovers come in!) and 4 1/2'' squares.

And the best part? All of those cut off corner triangles become border units if you choose to use them there. ZERO fabric waste!

Digging right in!

It didn't take long until block beginnings were up on the wall.

Round one underway!

The biggest hint I can give anyone making these is to keep everything in the same orientation - always.

The first two small rectangles are always placed side by side as more strips are added to the block as we build from the middle out.

Make all the blocks facing one direction - and don't rotate anything until the blocks are made and you are laying out the quilt.  THEN they can turn. See the two short rectangles ALWAYS side by side at the center? Watch those short rectangles to make sure everything is in the same position.

Keep them all laid out the same way with the corners going the same direction,

Build them all the same!

And after blocks are done - then turn them how you want them!

As I looked at my photos this morning I noticed that there were many photos of hands at work.

I love hands!  Think of all of the many things these hands have made over the years - still going strong.  Still creating, enabling us all to do the things we are doing.

Beautiful fabrics and lovely colors!

This is going to be so dynamic!

This 30 year needlepoint tapestry is nearly done!  And there is no better place to work on it than on the back porch while listening to birds in the afternoon.

Sometimes we need a break from the whir of the machines and the chitter chatter of quilters.

Find peace where you can and recharge your batteries.

I'm encouraging these little guys to do one of two things - either take their time so I can enjoy them when I get back from Idaho - or hurry up so I can enjoy them over the next few days - because they'll be done by the time I get back.
Same with the dogwood tree.  It's blooming - but not in full regalia yet.
