My Junking Day Outing!

Artifacts from Tuesday's Getaway Day!

When Debbie's Bitter Bees group left on Sunday - giving me the rest of that day and Monday to tackle laundry and getting things ready for Nola's Bonniacs to arrive - I suddenly saw a break in my schedule - Tuesday was completely empty and I could do with it what I wanted.

What did I want?  Did I really REALLY want?

A junking day!
Click to PLay:

SO many good things!

I love this art deco platter.

Here is where it ended up (for now)

Coffee wire decor is hanging -

(love command strips!)

I need to find something else to go here too - likely coffee or tea themed.  The wire thing looks a bit small for that blank space.  I'm still looking.

Stack of serving plates -

And no more platter on edge to send them crashing to the floor.  I think we are good now.

I love this cupboard.  I love this whole kitchen!

As to those quilts - CUTE CUTE CUTE!

I love the blue gingham check in this one, and it gives me big ideas to try with my 1930s prints and recycled shirt strings.

There are never too many string quilts.  Never.

Of course - big Baptist fans.  Always.

In-your-face bubble gum pink!

This is a 1960s erra quilt!  Maybe some 50s -

Tied Grecian Cross quilt - Love the scrappy border!

The bold zig zags are fun - and the constant use of red makes all of those pretty light colored dress prints stand out.

1930s - 1950s fabrics in here.

What made the maker decide on this border do you think?

Cheater cloth type fabric backing.

Another thing I find interesting - the maker grouped blocks with the same centers together, insteads of spreading them randomly through the top as we are apt to do.

Scroll back through these photos of the tied quilt and see what I mean - It's so interesting!

Licorice Twist is hanging in the Hen Den!

Today is the last day to enter to win!

Tomorrow I'll draw for our winners who will each receive a Licorice Twist  twist PDF pattern from me AND a Splashes of Color fabric roll from Cotton to Quilts.

I recommend using the printable 8 1/2'' X 11'' newsprint found in the Quilting All the Time category of the Quiltville Amazon Affiliate Store.

Carol Doak Paper is back in stock - but supplies are limited! They only sent me 12 packages.

And yes, there is a sale going on - all rulers. notions and tools (including Carol Doak Paper) are 15% off using code NOTIONS at check out.

Check out Brandy's blocks in rainbow scraps - I was hoping someone would do this!

They are beautiful, Brandy!  Keep going!

I love how she has placed colors around the white center square creating a circular effect.  So fun!

Nola's Bonniacs arrived right on time yesterday afternoon.

Today we'll start in on our retreat workshop - Pineapple Blossom from the Free Patterns tab.

Have you made one? Or More?

Do you have one stacked back as a UFO? Maybe pull it out this weekend and work on it along with is!

And no, it's not all work and no play - Or workshop instruction is only in the mornings from 10am until lunch.  And then everyone has the afternoons to do as they please be it take a walk, read a book, go to the quilt shops, work on something else they brought - just enjoy being together.

Today - I'm hoping for an afternoon walk up Roundhouse road.  I hear the trilliums are in bloom and it's been a while since I've been that way.

What do you have planned for today?

Quiltville Quote of the Day -

Anger is one letter short of DANGER! It doesn't solve anything, it builds nothing, and it can destroy everything.
And of course, we all know that, right? Throw it out, replace it with something constructive!
Vintage album block quilt found in North Carolina.

Have a terrific Thursday, everyone!

Foot Dr at 10:30am. Inserts for shoes are in and hope they work as well as the straping she did, so I can get back to walking again! Have a great day!!

I LOVE that soft string pennant quilt. SO pretty!!

I'm not sure I was familiar with the Grecian Cross block. Kind of a Churn Dash with different value placement? Interesting! Thanks for sharing!

Bonnie, what about a quilt that's table runner size in "coffee, creamer & tea" colors for the corner? The wire art could hang next to it on the short wall (to the right). Dual purpose. You could swap it out for a different table runner seasonally. Because you know you've got a few stashed away! LOL

  4. Interesting red Quilt. Maybe she didn't finish it. That border is from a different time it seems. Placement is different. Just go with it. Don't worry, Be Happy. Good ear worm for a Thursday.

  5. I thought I remembered reading that you were taking your husband to the Bristol airport. I hope that all your wonderful finds were in Bristol, where I live!! Downtown has lots of antique stores, but IF you were at Goodwill, you were close to AmVets, which is right next to Kroger. It is fairly new and has quite a bit of glassware. I might be a bust, but you might check it out sometime!! Great "haul" you had!!

  6. And I thought I didn’t like Licorice Twist! It looks so good in the Hen Den.

  7. I really like the 9 patch on point idea. You find so much interesting stuff at your antique malls. Not as good where I live. I love antiques but never see quilts. Glad to have a few made by my hubby's Grandmother. We had a heavy frost this morning so I'll be checking to see if my budding tulips survived. I covered a newly planted rose bush and an planted last fall weeping pussy willow to protect them but everything else, including the lilacs, are on their own. Another freeze possible tonight but 70 degrees come Sunday. Best to you.

  8. I wonder what the history / story behind the interesting quilt is. Scraps from Granny or just learning to quilt. I have the pattern for the Bubble Gum quilt it was in Quilt Maker Magazine about 20+ years ago. Same colors lol.

  9. OMG!!! Your message today hit the bulls eye with me. Boy did I need this reminder. I spent an hour on the phone with a customer service person, and it resolved nothing. And in the big scheme of things, it really doesn't matter. I have a few other "anger" items that aren't resolved that do matter. Yet my being angry won't fix them and definitely takes away from my being happy. I'm working on letting them go. I have two days with my quilt guild, and I plan on being happy and staying that way. Thank you so much for your faithful posts - love them.

  10. OH, I love when you post your findings! So glad you got the day to do what you want to with... I hope things went smoothly with your husband's airport trip! I'm loving the platters & the wire wall hanging. Sew cute!! Maybe a quilted wall hanging to go with on the other wall? My favorite of the quilts was the 9 patch... & not because of the color! HA! I also loved the hand tied one too! We are just trying to make it through the day to the weekend... but allergies are getting in the way!

  11. I used to buy peanut butter in tapered jars like the one you bought. I reused them as freezer containers. They worked well for freezing soup. One year we had a huge crop of grapes and I got tired of making jelly so I froze the juice. One of those jars holds just enough juice for a batch of jelly. At some point we had to get a new freezer and the jars got put on the bottom under everything else. Last spring we moved so the freezer had to be emptied and I made up all that juice into jelly. I recycled six or eight of those jars, never thinking anyone would want them. One man's trash really is another man's treasure I guess.

  12. interesting the quilt. I kind of like the clumping of the fabrics. Easy on the eyes kind of like a happy path.
It has been ages since I visited your blog. I must have lost the subscription some how. Anyway, it is always great to see your happy life and enthusiasm Bonnie
Agree about anger My youngest daughter married an angry guy. We are suffering but making the best.
