I'm beginning to feel like a kid whose Christmas break from school just flew by too fast without much to show for it.
Saturday was spent with Jeff & Casden here - the menfolk working on the terraced steps outside, and Casden and I just hanging out - and then making lunch - and by the time everything was cleared away and cleaned up the day had flown and they were homeward bound.
There was a bit of Sunday morning stitching time at home though - check out these cute little froggies!
There is a place for everything, and you never quite know what surprises will delight you as blocks are being made, and as they are rediscovered later.
These little things bring me smiles. Fabric line? Fabric genre? What's that all about - I love the quilts where everything is thrown in the best.
It's not like there are not enough plastic totes and bins around here, but I picked these two up at Walmart in the kitchen section near the dish drainer type aisle.
They are big and clear and easy to rummage around in.
There are no lids, but there are handles.
And they fit the width of my little rolling cart I keep next to my machine as part of my work area.
his will keep enough of a variety on hand while I work on my blocks, and as that variety depletes, I can add in a couple more handfuls of either neutrals or blacks to keep the mix good.
And then there were 14 -
This square bin is the perfect size for me to keep the completed blocks, pinned in sets of 10 so I know how many I have.,
As I said - this is going to be a long....long....long term project. It has no deadline. It's perfect for Sunday sewing. I'm keeping it as a home project as there are other things that are under the gun at the studio.
In her favorite basket on my cutting table.
This is the most precious thing. I love when she buries her face under her front paw.
As to the terraced steps project - They did an awesome job!
This hill was really steep, and can get muddy and slippery. And there are times when the Hubster needs to come from the shed above to his pickup or the garage below, and the only other way was either through the house and down the stairs, or all the way around the back of the house to get to the lower level.
There are stair treads that will be put in place next - the gravel is for drainage and to help the wood frames keep their shape.
I teased him about maybe needing some festive solar lights - he said that wasn't a bad idea, but nixed my suggestion of tacky fake flower ones. LOL!
Wind and snow is in our forecast.
I'm taking care of some much needed things at the studio this morning, but if things turn out as predicted I may be back here stitching pineapple blocks by afternoon.
What did you get up to over the weekend? Did you do any baking? (Sugar cookies and icing with sprinkles happened here.) Did you watch any Christmas movies? (White Christmas is a favorite and I hand quilted my way through that one while singing along...)
What is up on deck for you this week?
I finished Clue 4 on Saturday --- got some cleaning done on Sunday and finished this morning -- also made my grandmother's Raisin Filled Cookies -- they are delicious --- but labor intensive and ONLY make 36! They are like miniture pies!
ReplyDeleteThanks for helping us thru these holidays!!
We make great gma’s raised filled cookies too! I wonder if they are the same. Ours have a rolled cookie base and then filling (raisin and nuts) and then a second cookie with a cutout in the center. They are yummy, take forever and don't make many. Sue, recipe from Ohio but now live in Texas.
DeleteMy recipe doesn't contain nuts - but a sugar cookie top and bottom - raising and a very sweet sticky filling!! Use lots of parchment paper!!
DeleteHa ha! The quote is perfect! Last Wednesday I fell and broke my hip so it’s been hospital and surgery and walker since then. I won’t be doing any sewing for awhile! But, it’s all good. I have my doting husband on hand to help me out and drugs for pain control. I’m most disappointed I can’t work on Indigo Way, but it will wait for me!
ReplyDeleteThanks for all you do, Bonnie! Love your positive energy. 💚

finished cutting clue 4 Saturday. Sunday I made a beef stew and dinner rolls for dinner. I manage to get 8 units stitched and trimmed. will get the rest done in time. I love all Bonnie does for us at this time of year. Thank you so much Bonnie.
ReplyDeleteI’m spending more time on each clue than expected; the cutting is my roadblock. But I’ve kept up so far and have a buddy to help keep me accountable! As of this moment I have my small triangles cut. Assembling and pressing them will happen this afternoon. Tomorrow is on to cutting the larger triangles!
ReplyDeleteI spent Saturday putting binding on a small quilt with a fireman theme for my grandson. It will be wrapped up and put under our Christmas tree after a quick wash to soften up. We then went to our local theatre to see a live production of “The Christmas Carol”. It was an awesome show! We spend Sunday finishing up our Christmas shopping as we lost 10 to a bout with Covid. I have also spent little bursts of time working on a few pieces for each part of “ Indigo Way”. Today we are seeing snow squalls so I will bake this afternoon and stay warm. Merry Christmas to all!
ReplyDeleteThe kitty in the basket is toooooo cute for words!
ReplyDeleteToday's quote is absolutely spot on ! (and the quilt is pretty too)
ReplyDeleteI spent Saturday driving home to Oklahoma from Alabama after spending a few days with some dear friends. Of course, I took my Indigo Way fabric and sewing machine, I was able to finish clue 3 and get clue 4 cut and half done before heading back. Sunday was church, a grandson’s band concert then rushed to granddaughter’s preschool program followed by chicken and noodles with the family. We are beyond blessed and grateful for all that we have.🥰
ReplyDeleteI'm working on all 4 clues at the same time! I like to shake things up!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the quote of the day!!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a very full weekend :0) Time with family=priceless :0)
ReplyDeleteCute quote today! No baking this weekend; no time! I did get the center of a log cabin throw put together. Trying to decide on a border. One more wake up and then I am that kid on CHristmas break... HA!! I will be swimming in my own pineapple-y goodness soon. I got commissioned to make 2, and while I am at it I will be doing one of my donation ones that pattern as well. The steps are looking good and I am sure will be enjoyed soon. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI've already run out to do errands and beat the crowds; back home now to bake, wrap, sew; clean out a space in my sewing room for the pack 'n play this weekend where 18month old hands can't get to everything! Lovely day here on the NC coast!
ReplyDeleteI am celebrating winter finally coming to the farm by tuning up my inherited 1970's kenmore sewing machine. My goal is to sew on it awhile and then give it to a 4-H'er. I am using it for Indigo and I started a piecing/hand work project to take to my quilt/craft friendship group meetings. My scrap bins are table busing totes from the restaurant supply. I am loving your pineapple project!
ReplyDeleteHa Ha Ha!!! Love your quote of the day. How very true. I'm working on a twister quilt. It's my first one and I wanted to give it a try. I'm up for an adventure.

Sugar cookies made today. Decorating tomorrow, when the gingerbread house is solid enough to hold more decorations! My 26 yr old son helped, surprisingly - for a little while. Queen size quilt ready for binding. I saw the snow predictions too. We got flurries this afternoon, so I am guessing you have some on the ground. Now, what to binge watch while binding.
ReplyDeleteToday was a cookie dipping in Chocolate day after I got back from Quilt Guild and shopping in Tri-Cities. And a big batch of Caramel Popcorn to share ar tonight's white Elephant gift party. The weekend was stitching 2 more Christmas gifts so they could be mailed today.
ReplyDeleteNothing like last minute.
Cute kitty ball in the basket.
Don't know if you seen this movie but it's become one of my favorites -- The man who invented Christmas. It's about Charles Dickens and how he "comes up" with the book the Christmas Carol. Excellent actors and loved hearing the familiar quotes from the story come up in conversation, Dickens hearing/saying them for the first time. I think it's free on Amazon this season.
