In life there are no guarantees, only opportunities and what we do with them…
Seize the moment and embrace the opportunities! You will be grateful you did.
Several of these ladies I am meeting for the first time. They are meeting each other for the first time off-line.
Throw in some really GORGEOUS weather and we've got a week of fun, friendship, quilting and more ahead.
I also want to mention how HAPPY my heart is. This is the second consecutive group where ALL of the attendees are 100% vaccinated and at least 2 weeks past their last injection.
Such a relief. Such a step in a positive direction.
Yes, I know we are not out of the woods yet. There are no guarantees as stated in the first line of this post. But it's an honest attempt at moving forward.
We are planning everything around the weather - the best time of day to do this, that or the other thing.
There will be PLENTY of time for sewing - as much as anyone wants, but some of these gals love to be out and about and are anxious to "DO ALL THE THINGS." So a handful of us set out mid afternoon for a hike up Round House road.
Everyone seemed up to the challenge to go further than we have yet this year, all the way up to the old McMillan family cemetery to get a good panoramic view of the area.
Luckily - things DID get mowed a bit - because I'm not one who will crawl through tall grass in these parts to see head stones. Creepy Crawlies and all - I need to be able to SEE my feet and where they are stepping!
Catching some afternoon rays!
It's very uphill to this point and my legs were burning. But everyone did great!
We are sweaty, but so glad we did it!
The must take photo spot at the VA/NC state line!
Taking photos of taking photos!
More exciting news - there is activity at the old Round House!
There was a guy with a pickup who was hired to empty out the house. It looks like it may be saved afterall!
More stuff on the porch.
I had no idea that the house was still FURNISHED! Holy cow, what a job. But the guy said that the house will be taken down to the studs and framework and completely rebuilt.
I am breathing a sigh of relief because I really thought this house was a goner.
More photos of progress to come as I continue to take hikes past here through the summer/fall.
And the quilters are back at it!
Several are making Catching Rainbows and blocks are going up on the design walls. Fun fun fun!
Rhodies continue to bloom along the front porch.
That BLUE BLUE sky! No filter!
And this weekend our temps will be in the 80s!
We've planned a hike to see the ponies along the Appalachian Trail this morning while the weather is still fairly on the cool side. We'll be back in time for more sewing.
And this is coming together.
Did I ever mention how much I hate to pin-match points?!

Quiltville Quote of the Day -
One of the most important things in any relationship is communication and hearing what isn't said.
Look and listen more closely.
Enjoy your Friday, folks!
This post is full of hope and promise... moving forward is a truly great thing! I love the fact that some of these retreaters are meeting IRL for the first time; those Catching Rainbow blocks are happy and wonderful. 🙂
ReplyDeleteLove sharing your adventures. So happy that Quiltville Inn ismaking so many quilty dreams come true!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy to see that the Round House is not lost! It is such a treasure. I hated matching points too until I found out about double pins, also known as forked or U pins. They look just like a U with a point at each end. Both sides of the seam are pinned at once, and they don't move. Total game changer!
ReplyDeleteWow, I'd never heard of these pins other than for use in floral arrangements! I hope they are made in a super fine size. I love trying new ideas to make things easier. I'm off to scour the internet to find these! Karen L. FLorida
DeleteYou give hope and joy to a little kind of mad world. Keep coming with news that embrase joy of life and gratitude of what we have in our lives.
ReplyDeleteI hate to rain on your fun,but I live west of you and we have had rain for most of the week I do hope it goes north or south of you all so you can enjoy the gorgeous s every all around you.
ReplyDeleteAlways fun to greet new friends. Glad your Retreaters like the views. Worth the hike. Matching Points, Oh My! You did good! Keep on stitching. I'm not stitching today. Maybe tomorrow. Love to see the blocks on the wall.
ReplyDeletewhat is the pattern of the vintage quilt behind the post? My brain is trying to figure that one out.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think the Roundhouse will become? A B&B or someone's house? I look forward to seeing its remodel! I have company this week so no sewing to speak of.
ReplyDeleteSince not traveling for College Softball with granddaughter, this week has been devoted to finishing a BOM from 2020. I have made it to borders, but they will have to wait because I have a 7 yr old Grandson who needs some MawMaw time.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I am looking forward to seeing progress on Roundhouse. It is such an interesting place. Also hope to see your photos of the ponies.
ReplyDeleteIf your quilters are looking for a fun activity - the farmers market in West Jefferson is open tomorrow from 8 to 1. Food, crafts, and music! It is located on Back Steet.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing you and your Quilting Ladies sitting in your rockers relaxing on the porch. It is such a comforting thought and sight. I'm sure hoping someday it can be me sitting there. And, it might be sooner than later now that you've made a few "shared days" available. Thank you for that, and thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteso happy to hear that everyone is getting business taking care of. It sounds like things are looking up in your neck of the woods. Enjoy this beautiful weekend with a fun group of ladies!
ReplyDeleteWhat a difference the sun makes! I love seeing your Rhodies opening, they're beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI'm excited to watch the round house progress, can't wait for your updates! Thank goodness it's being rescued. Have a lovely weekend Bonnie - I'm sure you will with your fellow Quiltvillians :)
I hope the round house is going to be rebuilt to look the same, such a wonderful treasure.
ReplyDeleteI am also so happy to hear someone is renovating the round house. What a beautiful place. Hope you can keep us updated with more pictures once they are moving along on the renovation. It's always exciting to see everyone there at your beautiful home quilting and enjoying each other's company. I sure wish NC was closer to WI!
