She was working on her Step 5 triangles for Orca Bay at the time --- I wonder how far she has gotten since?
I know Quilt-Cam seems to be few and far between, but in the past month I have not had more than one or two nights home in between huge trips –I left for Pennsylvania, visited my friend Mary Koval and taught for her shop, Mary’s Quilts, then on to Hershey for Quilt Odyssey.
I got home Monday night, had Tuesday to play catch up and pack, left for Alaska on Wednesday.
Got home from Alaska on Tuesday, had Wednesday to play catch up, Picked Mickey Depre up at the airport on Thursday to start our whirlwind Collaboration Celebration –Sunday when that was over I whisked her off to the Cabin and the land of “nearly-dial-up-internet” for some hot and heavy book quilt project sewing.
I’m home tonight. We can do Quilt-Cam tonight!
Because tomorrow I play catch up, pack my bags, and leave for Seattle and the Alaskan Cruise with Sew Many Places on Friday! I arrive in Seattle on Friday afternoon – we sail out of Seattle on Saturday. And on it goes---
But tonight we do Quilt-Cam!
I have a confession---
You know all that daylight I couldn’t sleep through in Alaska a bit over a week ago?
Ebay is NOT the thing to be spending time on when you can’t sleep due to body-clock-misalignment!
She’s Green. 1950s Auto-Green!
And do you see her name badge?
What’s the SLOGAN for this machine?
“Electro Hygiene – Good Clean Sewing Fun!!”
((I am only guessing!))
((I am only guessing!))
Be sure you wash your hands before you sew?
I giggle every time I read the brand name…what WERE they thinking in the 1950s? I suppose it could be right up there with the Brylcreem ad of the era “"Brylcreem — A Little Dab'll Do Ya!"”
At any rate – She is ready to sew, are you?
And yes, I'll be working on my Crumb Strips again -- I haven't touched them in nearly a month! I also have some hints and helps for this year's Leader & Ender Challenge, Split 9-Patch to share!

I am working on magic pinwheels tonight
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute, green machine! I also got a 1950's machine this week, a Singer 301A. I had to borrow a friends featherweight bobbin case to test it out (mine is on order) and she sews nicely. I want to see if you come home from the cruise with a new, vintage machine. Maybe the 'sea green' of this machine was just to get you ready for the sea cruise. Happy sailing!
ReplyDeleteWorking on boarders for a sampler quilt.

Love your new machine! I just finished my second Easy Street....love it. I am now going to start the CHALLENGE split nine-patch! Thanks for quilt cam!

Just finished my sewing homework...and getting ready for a late supper but so nice to catch you for a couple minutes! Duck Dynasty? I think not! But yes...you will lose out to food.LOL
ReplyDeleteSewing squares together for backgrounds for applique turtles. Found the pattern while cleaning out my garage! Quiltcam tonight? It's a great present for me on my birthday.
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie. Mary from Canada, currently in WV. Set up my featherweight in the motel room so I can work on the flippy corners while I watch you and hubby watches the ducks. Need headphones!
ReplyDeleteWelcome home Bonnie! I have Duck Dynasty on in the background but Quilt Cam takes precedence! Enjoying watching you as always.

Thanks for QuiltCam tonight. On FB the ladies were talking about "I LOVE LUCY" making a dress on her 'Free Westinghouse machine'. I'm waiting to see that episode on the Hallmark Channel this Friday AM. How fun to go to Alaska twice this Fall. Glad you are back for a little between. Duck Dynasty will have to be DVR-ED. I have a play-off Baseball game to go to soon.
ReplyDeleteOMG I finally made at least part of Quilt Cam, I have pinned all the ones I could, Love Quilt Cam, and you of course!
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie this is my first time on quilt cam!! I am working on 2 self binding baby blankets to be given next week.
ReplyDeleteLove that green machine Bonnie! It's a good thing I don't have room to collect sewing toys, or I would be in so much trouble. Working on a throw size quilt for my husband made from Ford Truck panel. Just added extra borders and getting ready to sandwich for quilting. Will post a picture on my blog when it's complete.
ReplyDeleteI am knitting and watching quilt cam:) Love quilt cam!
ReplyDeleteIs the quilt cam a little blurry or is it me?
ReplyDeleteWorking on black & white 9-patches for a swap. Your timing is perfect, it gives me someone to sew with.
ReplyDeleteWhile watching quilt cam tonight, I am working on marking my squares to make the points on the stars of my Collaboration Celebration blocks. We had sew much fun! Thanks to you and Mickey as well as the Sew Sisters for such a great time!
ReplyDeleteI remember vacuum cleaners called Electro Hygiene when I was a kid back in the fifties. Evidently that company sold sewing machines too.
ReplyDeleteHi, Bonnie.
ReplyDeleteI am new to Quiltcam. Tonight I am working on binding for a quilt. I am so happy to have discovered your blog! I wish I had your energy! I was visiting family in Lancaster County when you were there for the quilt show. I cannot believe that you made that trip AND a trip to Alaska all before I got home from eastern PA. :)

Welcome home, Bonnie! I'm pulling scraps for your Jamestown Landing workshop in Dallas next. I may not have enough scraps for a two color quilt. Have you ever done or seen it done in multiple colors? Your insight would be appreciated.
ReplyDeleteBonnie,
ReplyDeleteSo happy to have Quilt Cam again! Did you receive the email attachment with the spool pin doily pattern? Feel free to share with anyone!
Quilty hugs,

I love your blog and quilt cam. Thanks so much for all you do!!
Thank you Sharon!
DeleteThanks for the explanation, Bonnie...I would like a camera like that on me to hide my wrinkles as well...and your eyebrows look good from here!
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie
ReplyDeleteMy hubby and are joining you on the cruise so we r busy packing tonight...spending Friday exploring Seattle! I am so excited to meet you and go on my very first cruise....feel like a little kid waiting for Christmas. How many students r there in our class?
Debbie
See you soon, Debbie! There are 34 I think in our class! :)
DeleteI'm like you when it comes to dressy......what to wear for shoes. When i am working i wear boots. All the rest of the time i am in Birkies. For dressy i would wear either black strappy birkie sandals or brightly colored ones.
ReplyDeleteI know you mentioned the hotel shampoo bottles looking similar. I have that problem too, so what I do, before my shower, while I can still read, I put a hair elastic on one of the bottles, and then when I am showering, I know which is which. Shampoo always gets the elastic with me. Just thought it might help!
ReplyDeleteTo clarify, I meant to tell the difference between the shampoo and conditioner bottles. :)
DeleteThank YOU!!! LOL!
DeleteYou and your husband must go on a raft tour of the Chilkat Eagle Preserve near Haines. BEST trip ever and we saw well over 75 bald eagles in their natural environment.
ReplyDeleteBonnie, I inherited a Singer 401a. I looks similar to your 301. I need to get tension knob fixed but can't wait to sew on it.
ReplyDeleteWent on a glacier/whale cruise back in 2005 and could not figure out why they said to wear layers! Got there and figured out that it would/way COLD that close to the glacier!
ReplyDeleteWorking on trimming HST's to the size needed for the L/E project-took just about anything that had a 90 degree angle and stitched them through the treadle machine. So, I am cutting down now rather than before sewing-got a feeling I will have over 1000 of the HST's due to several other projects that used the same size.
Only type of cruise I would go on would be a quilting one-went on regular one years ago and was boooored due to dumb deal I made with spouse-I would not play with my needle work if he would not play with the remote! Too bad I didn't put money on that-I would have made a fortune off him with everytime he played with the remote-and there was nothing on anyway!!!
Bonnie, I have just purchased an antique Singer sewing machine. It is portable with a wooden case. Do you have a source for referencing old machines to find out more about them. Thanks for any info. Love Quilt cam! janita
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie- did a Disney cruise with family the 1st of July and LOVED it. I did the helicopter glacier climbing with my niece and nephew. I would have regretted not going!!! The climbing is optional!!! But the expirience and views are unforgettable!!! I will be 48 soon and was able to climb higher than some of the 'younger' guys. (With help- lol). Do it for the once and life time expirience!! But have what ever you do. Yes- great quilt shops too!
ReplyDeleteSafe travels- Tracy in Baton Rouge
How many quilts have you made with scraps?
ReplyDeleteLove your energy! We just celebrated our 32nd anniversary and I said the same thing about my hubby putting up with my craziness for 32 years. Happy early 32nd anniversary to you and your hubby.
ReplyDeletefinishing borders on easy street. We did it as a mystery at our guild, following your instructions. Mine is oranges and greens with wine theme. My sister went on a alaska cruise.. and loved it and planning on going back. Enjoy your time in the north!!

DeleteHi from Tami in Colorado. I'm busy cutting HST's with my Easy Angle. I've actually never made them any other way. Thanks for sharing so much!
ReplyDeletesew jealous of that beautiful green machine :) thanks for quilt cam tonight. safe journey, and Happy Anniversary.

We cruised to Alaska out of Seattle in the month of July a few years back. We needed warm hats, gloves and coats on the back of the ship while cruising the glaciers. When in port, we just needed to layer--carried a light jacket. The quilt shops are wonderful! We went to Juneau, Ketchikan, etc.
ReplyDeleteWe just returned from a cruise to Alaska in June. It was our second one and we went zip lining both times. Obviously we loved it enough to go twice. We also had brunch served on our balcony on Glacier Bay Day. If your ship has a formal night I highly recommend taking a pair of black slacks and a fancy top. For shoes I bought some sparkly flip flops at Kohls. Cheap and comfy!
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie - just had to share a story - mostly because of watching you with your vintage machines, I found a Singer 301 and gave it to my mom for her 91st birthday - She used to have one like it (I learned on it) , and I have heard her say many times she wished she had her old simple machine back - she gets confused with her new, 'fancy' machine with too many whistles and bells...
ReplyDeleteShe LOVES her 301... says it stitches "right"...
(and yes, I told her to put my name on it in the will). thanks, Bonnie, for adding new dimensions for all of us! Kate
I did get to sew, but missed you on Cam tonight (went to belated bday dinner after work and with the time difference I missed you!) but am looking forward to watching this weekend especially since you teased with tips for the new leader ender challenge! :)
ReplyDeleteJust enjoyed this QuiltCam from the archive which working on sewing together some Bricks & Stepping Stone blocks. Thanks for sharing some of your precious home-time with us. Hope you and your DH have a fabulous time on the cruise :)
ReplyDeleteWatched your quilt cam from last night this morning. I just loved it. Thanks so very much for sharing your precious studio time with us, as well as your piecing expertise. I love your enthusiasm for quilting and vintage sewing machines. Bravo to you... most excellent work Bonnie!
ReplyDeleteSew you named that little machine Gene, right? As in Hi, Gene! Okay, couldn't resist. Missed quilt cam last night (again) but loved seeing your new green treasure. Lane
ReplyDeleteI caught the rerun on you tube and watched while stitching some hexies. Enjoy your Alaska trip!
