She was working on her Step 5 triangles for Orca Bay at the time --- I wonder how far she has gotten since?
I know Quilt-Cam seems to be few and far between, but in the past month I have not had more than one or two nights home in between huge trips –I left for Pennsylvania, visited my friend Mary Koval and taught for her shop, Mary’s Quilts, then on to Hershey for Quilt Odyssey.
I got home Monday night, had Tuesday to play catch up and pack, left for Alaska on Wednesday.
Got home from Alaska on Tuesday, had Wednesday to play catch up, Picked Mickey Depre up at the airport on Thursday to start our whirlwind Collaboration Celebration –Sunday when that was over I whisked her off to the Cabin and the land of “nearly-dial-up-internet” for some hot and heavy book quilt project sewing.
I’m home tonight. We can do Quilt-Cam tonight!
Because tomorrow I play catch up, pack my bags, and leave for Seattle and the Alaskan Cruise with Sew Many Places on Friday! I arrive in Seattle on Friday afternoon – we sail out of Seattle on Saturday. And on it goes---
But tonight we do Quilt-Cam!
I have a confession---
You know all that daylight I couldn’t sleep through in Alaska a bit over a week ago?
Ebay is NOT the thing to be spending time on when you can’t sleep due to body-clock-misalignment!

I giggle every time I read the brand name…what WERE they thinking in the 1950s? I suppose it could be right up there with the Brylcreem ad of the era “"Brylcreem — A Little Dab'll Do Ya!"”

What a cute, green machine! I also got a 1950's machine this week, a Singer 301A. I had to borrow a friends featherweight bobbin case to test it out (mine is on order) and she sews nicely. I want to see if you come home from the cruise with a new, vintage machine. Maybe the 'sea green' of this machine was just to get you ready for the sea cruise. Happy sailing!

Thanks for QuiltCam tonight. On FB the ladies were talking about "I LOVE LUCY" making a dress on her 'Free Westinghouse machine'. I'm waiting to see that episode on the Hallmark Channel this Friday AM. How fun to go to Alaska twice this Fall. Glad you are back for a little between. Duck Dynasty will have to be DVR-ED. I have a play-off Baseball game to go to soon.

Hi Bonnie this is my first time on quilt cam!! I am working on 2 self binding baby blankets to be given next week.
Love that green machine Bonnie! It's a good thing I don't have room to collect sewing toys, or I would be in so much trouble. Working on a throw size quilt for my husband made from Ford Truck panel. Just added extra borders and getting ready to sandwich for quilting. Will post a picture on my blog when it's complete.

I remember vacuum cleaners called Electro Hygiene when I was a kid back in the fifties. Evidently that company sold sewing machines too.

I'm like you when it comes to dressy......what to wear for shoes. When i am working i wear boots. All the rest of the time i am in Birkies. For dressy i would wear either black strappy birkie sandals or brightly colored ones.
I know you mentioned the hotel shampoo bottles looking similar. I have that problem too, so what I do, before my shower, while I can still read, I put a hair elastic on one of the bottles, and then when I am showering, I know which is which. Shampoo always gets the elastic with me. Just thought it might help!
You and your husband must go on a raft tour of the Chilkat Eagle Preserve near Haines. BEST trip ever and we saw well over 75 bald eagles in their natural environment.
Bonnie, I inherited a Singer 401a. I looks similar to your 301. I need to get tension knob fixed but can't wait to sew on it.
Went on a glacier/whale cruise back in 2005 and could not figure out why they said to wear layers! Got there and figured out that it would/way COLD that close to the glacier!
Working on trimming HST's to the size needed for the L/E project-took just about anything that had a 90 degree angle and stitched them through the treadle machine. So, I am cutting down now rather than before sewing-got a feeling I will have over 1000 of the HST's due to several other projects that used the same size.
Only type of cruise I would go on would be a quilting one-went on regular one years ago and was boooored due to dumb deal I made with spouse-I would not play with my needle work if he would not play with the remote! Too bad I didn't put money on that-I would have made a fortune off him with everytime he played with the remote-and there was nothing on anyway!!!
Bonnie, I have just purchased an antique Singer sewing machine. It is portable with a wooden case. Do you have a source for referencing old machines to find out more about them. Thanks for any info. Love Quilt cam! janita
Hi Bonnie- did a Disney cruise with family the 1st of July and LOVED it. I did the helicopter glacier climbing with my niece and nephew. I would have regretted not going!!! The climbing is optional!!! But the expirience and views are unforgettable!!! I will be 48 soon and was able to climb higher than some of the 'younger' guys. (With help- lol). Do it for the once and life time expirience!! But have what ever you do. Yes- great quilt shops too!

finishing borders on easy street. We did it as a mystery at our guild,following your instructions. Mine is oranges and greens with wine theme. My sister went on a alaska cruise.. and loved it and planning on going back. Enjoy your time in the north!!

We cruised to Alaska out of Seattle in the month of July a few years back. We needed warm hats, gloves and coats on the back of the ship while cruising the glaciers. When in port, we just needed to layer--carried a light jacket. The quilt shops are wonderful! We went to Juneau, Ketchikan, etc.

We just returned from a cruise to Alaska in June. It was our second one and we went zip lining both times. Obviously we loved it enough to go twice. We also had brunch served on our balcony on Glacier Bay Day. If your ship has a formal night I highly recommend taking a pair of black slacks and a fancy top. For shoes I bought some sparkly flip flops at Kohls. Cheap and comfy!
Hi Bonnie - just had to share a story - mostly because of watching you with your vintage machines, I found a Singer 301 and gave it to my mom for her 91st birthday - She used to have one like it (I learned on it) , and I have heard her say many times she wished she had her old simple machine back - she gets confused with her new, 'fancy' machine with too many whistles and bells...
She LOVES her 301... says it stitches "right"...

I did get to sew, but missed you on Cam tonight (went to belated bday dinner after work and with the time difference I missed you!) but am looking forward to watching this weekend especially since you teased with tips for the new leader ender challenge! :)
