Yesterday I worked on these for THREE HOURS while on the QuiltCam. My thanks to everyone for helping keep me motivated on these! This is my stack this morning, which I quickly grabbed and took up to the living room to lay out.
There is more space there. I can lay out small projects down here in the basement studio, but I have to push chairs out of the way. Upstairs, I only have to push SADIE out of the way :cD
I played and played --- which is why this post is later than normal this morning! Did I want them turned into circles? Did I want the quilt to make a huge X toward the center? I tried everything, but you know what? THIS is how the original quilt was assembled and I think in this case I like simplicity best. Only---
I need 3 more of the 9 patch blocks….here I thought I was DONE!
I pieced yesterday until I could go no farther --- not because I was out of blocks, but because EVERYTHING I had left was the same shade of BLUE! HOW did that happen? Easy. I have more blue scraps than anything else, and I love blue and cheddar together. I’ll simply piece some more NON-BLUES to sprinkle in here and there and those 3 remaining needed blocks will be done in no time. I’m laying the 9-patch of bow-ties blocks out 9X9 for a Quilt Center that measures 81 X 81, and gives me a bow-tie count of ((DRUMROLL!!!!)) 729.
Here is a close up of my fabrics--- There is everything in here from 1960 on forward! I wanted to include fabrics that represent every decade of my life.
And because Halloween is around the corner…I LOVE THIS ONE!! This one was a gift ---I have places in the quilt where the cheddar background varies slightly in spots because I added in gifted blocks that came from friends. It all works!
And speaking of WORK….guess what organizing chore awaits me today?
((Cue Spooky Music!))
The monster that lurks behind the door of the utility closet! EEEEEEK!!
Oh Bonnie, it's beautiful! What will we do if they ever discontinue cheddar? Do you have a tute for the bow tie block? I got serious last week about leaders and enders. I'm shocked at how many little nine patches i have already..i'd love to mix them with some little bow tie blocks.
ReplyDeleteLooks fabulous!!! My eyes just dance over the blocks.
ReplyDeleteYour bow ties look awesome. I about choked on my coffee when I saw how many blocks you had, but I checked, and I have almost 500. I like how you made them into bigger blocks first - much better idea than just sewing the singles into rows. I think I'm going to finish making the blocks that I already have cut out, then call it good, and put it together!
ReplyDeleteBonnie, you are too funny!! Love your bow ties. I didn't follow along with making them and now wished I had. Boy, that sure is a lot of bow ties.
ReplyDeleteI love your bow tie quilt, Bonnie. It is so beautiful with all your scraps. I love how you have fabrics representing all the decades of your life! I am working on a charm quilt, and I have fabrics representing things that have been important in my life or have had some meaning in my life, from childhood on. I even found a fabric that had all kinds of books, and fussy cut it so the square for my charm quilt had Little Women in it, as that is my all time favorite book.
ReplyDeleteGood work, Bonnie! You'll be done soon.
ReplyDeleteGreat work Bonnie! I love your quilt. I mixed my backgrounds and now I am kind of regretting that after looking at yours hmmm. I don't have even close to the amount of blocks that you have so maybe a table-topper will do! I just love yours and thank you for sharing this great little block with us!
ReplyDeleteLooks great Bonnie. Why not save yourself some work and just make three more blue blocks and use them in the corners. Your blues have enough variety in shade that it would most likely not be noticed. Enjoyed Quilt Cam yesterday. I bound a tablerunner while you kept company with me.
ReplyDeleteYour bow ties look super; I also like the blue blocks as corners--then you only need make one more and also use up your blues!! I really love the Cam Gig...Julierose
ReplyDeleteBonnie, it's Paula in KY. I too was having trouble geting the video but I could get the sound on computer. Got tired of that so I downloaded Ustream app on my Android phone and then when you touch that app just type in Quiltville and up you come, perfect and no commercials. Thought this might help someone.
ReplyDeleteCheddar-licious!!
ReplyDeleteAs usual you are way ahead of me, but that's a good thing!!! Cuz you have motivated me to get this done before.....
Mystery Time LOL
Love Love Love the Quilt Cam.....It is so like sitting in a room full of quilting friends. Stay Well and Thanks Bonnie
Oh my scrappy heaven, that is one amazing quilt!! Love it!
ReplyDeleteI, too, like the blue bow tie corners. Make 4 out of what you have left, and then there is 1 left over for a throw pillow! So very nice. Proof you don't have to have the most beautiful fabric to make beautiful quilts. Paula in Omaha
ReplyDeleteIt's awesome in every way! Woohoo!
ReplyDeleteNice job on the bow tie quilt! It's a winner for sure!!
ReplyDeleteI love it! So inspiring! And I have to agree, the standard setting is so pleasing.
ReplyDeleteI'm not usually a fan of cheddar, but I have to admit, I really like these. I was going to make mine about the same size as yours and when I discovered just how many more I would need, I nixed that idea. I've only used a mere 480 in mine. It's being quilted now, in between house showings or I would send a picture.
ReplyDeleteI love it! I wish mine were big, but a wall-hanging is all I could manage with my blocks. LOL They would still be individual blocks if not for the motivational factor from Quiltcam!!
ReplyDeleteOh, those look so fun. Can you believe how many you made? Awesome! I agree...it's a winner! Enjoy all the memories in that fabric.
ReplyDeleteI am speechless! And that is saying something! We.enjoyed the Saturday quilt.time.with you!! My computer is.hooked to the flatscreen in the livingroom so I can accomplish things.like yesterdays rearranging of the livingroom while.following your.progress! I am inspired!
ReplyDeleteGreat site. I will keep it in mind when searching fot relevant news articles for http://www.exportadvicers.com/
ReplyDeletelove your bow tie quilt!!!
ReplyDeleteHope nothing bad happens to you in that scary closet!
ReplyDeleteYour bowties look unbelievably amazing....I love it! It just sparkles!
way to go ~ it looks great! ☺ my vote is to go ahead and make a few more. i'd be happier doing that myself. then, you can save those extra blues for the back.
ReplyDeleteLooks great, and another one almost bites the dust. Love the Halloween block as well, it is cute.
ReplyDeleteWonderful! I had thought the cheddar would be overpowering, but with all the colors of the bowties it is kept in check and makes a fabulous background fabric! Gee, I learned I can be wrong at times! :)
ReplyDeleteNow I want to start working on my own bow tie quilt again -- thanks for the motivation! And for starting us all on this project in the first place. :-)
ReplyDeleteTalk about inspiration! Whew! Can't wait to build my own cheddar bow tie quilt.
ReplyDeleteU can join blues to make blue and cheder corners!
ReplyDeleteIt,s just my opinion. I know u have better idea
Thanks for showing
What if you make four blue blocks, point them toward the four corners, and have the ties follow suit. Just a thought.
ReplyDeletebeautiful. thanks for inspiring me to do cheddar bowties, hope to finish my much smaller top soon. I am working on 1/2 square triangles for an inner border.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous quilt! I wish I could have just a little of your energy! You make progress on everything sooo fast!
ReplyDeleteHappy sewing,
Laila
Beautiful bow ties Bonnie! Say that three times fast!!! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm not all that big of a cheddar fan, but this quilt is going to be gorgeous! Guess I shouldn't be that surprised. Can't wait to see how the borders go.

ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your near finished top, the bowties in cheddar look great. This is motivating me to get back to some piecing so I can work on my first leaders and enders project, this years spool blocks. A friend challenged me and I am really enjoying it and hopefully next year I will be putting together a quilt top.
ReplyDeleteLove it! Mine is more planned than scrappy. I have 81 hand stitched bowties.... they are my take along project. working on sewing them into 9 rows of 9 for the first quarter of my quilt. Then my plan is to make another 81 for a second quarter. Then I need to figure out how many to make so that it looks like a bowtie made of bowties! I've got plenty of cheddar but limited colors Thought it was a clever idea... hopefully it will work out.
ReplyDeletelove the way the lights Sparkle when laid out like that. Great job.
ReplyDeleteIt is so awesome!!! That is a lot of little blocks. What a great quilt.
