Do you find it difficult to regulate your 1/4" seam allowance when using different machines on one project?
ReplyDeleteHi, Bonnie. Hi, Barbie. So good to see you both this evening. What size are the HSTs for this block?
ReplyDeletewe know you and Gwen Marsten are great friends,,,so tell us,,,what is the most "maveric" thing you've done?
ReplyDeleteWorking on a string quilt right along with you. You are coming to my guild in Bethlehem PA in April hoping to have it done by then so I can share it with you!
ReplyDeleteSusan in the Christmas City
No machine intervention!! LOL I live vicariously through you!
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteWatching you tonite from quilter's dream retreat. You are scheduled here for 2015. Already have a list of people waiting for then. Working with leader & Enders here while getting other stuff sewn. So happy to be sewing along with you.

Hi, Bonnie. Tonight I'm also working with recycled plaids. I am making Checkerboard Plaids an Evelyn Sloppy pattern from 40 Fabulous Quick-Cut Quilts. I didn't quite have enough dark shirts, so I dug around in my stash until I found some homespuns to round out the fabric selection. Then this morning I stopped by another church rummage sale and picked up 5 more shirts. They may go into the mix for the checkerboard border.

a little quick math---you can buy 400 machines for that 12K Bernina!
ReplyDeleteHi there, Bonnie! It's great fun working along with you! However, for the last few times, it's been more like radio; for some reason I don't get any video anymore. I can deal, after all, I get more done when I'm looking at my project instead of yours, but I hate to feel like I'm missing anything! :-) Does anyone else have this problem?
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie
ReplyDeleteSewing with you again tonight in Ontario, Canada. I am finishing the border units from my Orca Bay. I am thinking I must get this top finished so I can join you "guilt-free" for the next mystery...can't wait!
that's so funny you should say that, because I just bought the 830 and was watching quilt cam and was saying that exact thing.you would laugh and say do you know how many machines I could buy for that much money!
ReplyDeleteI'm getting dinner going and then I'll be hand quilting later this evening. I've only got about half way to go to finish the last border on this quilt then it's ready for binding.
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteAre you doing a mystery quilt this year, if so can you give us a hint on the theme?? :D
Psst, Nadia, it starts the Friday after Thanksgiving! I am having a hard time waiting!
DeleteThanks Bev!! I knew it was coming up soon....
DeleteThis year my goal is to keep up week to week and I hope I have enough fabric so I don't have to buy any!
Hi Bonnie, Love your quilt cam and have learned so much from watching.I am fairly new to quilting and have a lot to learn.
ReplyDeleteJane, you are fortunate to have found Bonnie so soon in your quilting life. You will learn so many excellent methods and habits from her to get the most out of your fabric AND your time and energy. Enjoy!
Deletehi Bonnie Glad to see you are home again. I will see you in march in bloomington IN classes

ReplyDeleteAnd you are so right, at 50 pounds my 830 doesn't leave the house..... NOT a featherweight!
ReplyDeleteI also have a hard time taking mine out of my studio. So darn heavy! I missed the quilt cam time and am not too sure what this is in reference to?
DeleteHi Bonnie, waving at you from Hemet, Calif., where it was 110* yesterday. Much cooler today (only 85*!) Working along with you sewing binding on a string quilt that will be DH's niece's birthday present.
ReplyDeleteCould I bring my own vintage machine to your retreat??? My 1925 Singer (electric with knee control) sounds almost as good as your treadle and some of your other darlings! I am doing string piecing for Tulip Fields on it-kind of keeps the mess on one table!
ReplyDeleteHi from CO! I'd love you to offer us a one-day quilt retreat online.....maybe not all day quilt cam but scheduled times for quilt cam and then the in between times for sewing. Think about it.
ReplyDeleteCathy
Like Kate, I am only getting audio, again. I have always been able to watch, but the last two times I have not had any video. Have you changed anything on your end? Nothing has changed on mine except the lack of picture. I've tried two different browsers--no luck.
ReplyDeleteBonnie - your a treasure. Not a national treasure but an international one - because I live in Canada. I'm about to sit down with my famiy for dinner,so have to leave you. I loved watching you string piece. I'm starting a string project as well.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all you share and do!!
DianneB: I'm also from Alberta, Canada. I think we should move Bonnie closer to us right?
DeleteBonnie, just curious...how will you finish your hexie quilt? Will you use neutral hexies around the outside to "float" the inside. Or will you have an irregular outside edge
ReplyDeleteSharyn Hutchinson
Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteI m not trying to quilt tonight. Just relaxing with my cat after gallbladder surgery and three days in the hospital. I am watching closely in order to understand just how the leader/ender system works.
Plan for hand work in the next few days.
I love the wooden box to your right what do you put in it. Lisa Fayetteville ohio
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie, good to see you are home for a while. I am just in from a wedding and thought I would catch up on your blog. Glad to see quilt cam is on I am usually in bed now. Won't stay long as I have to get up again at 7.30 and it is now 2.30! From Ann in Cork, Ireland.
ReplyDeleteHi Girls!! Is the pattern "moth in the window" from one of your books? Thanks for all you do!! :)
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie, handsewing the border on my Florabunda. I like this quilt so much it is going to be hard to see it ended
ReplyDeleteThank you Bonnie, for quiltcam. I must confess I started watching quiltcam on my phone while laying on the couch, proudly, now I am actually sewing along with you.
ReplyDeleteBonnie where did "Dear Jane" go to? Love, love, love quiltcam! Brilliant idea!
ReplyDeleteoops, I was signed in as my husband
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie, 3 quick questions: so what did you end up naming the blue machine? What thread do you use? Last but not least does the mystery this year contain plaids? I can't use plaids as it makes my eyes dance when I sew?
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie! Sewing along with you here in Australia! It's Friday lunch time. Making four patches myself out of some Australian fabric. Gorgeous spring day here! Happy sewing!
ReplyDeleteI had the video for awhile, now just have the audio & the ads... what did you say a few minutes ago about video going away?
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie, good to see you are home for a while. I am just in from a wedding and thought I would catch up on your blog. Glad to see quilt cam is on I am usually in bed now. Won't stay long as I have to get up again at 7.30 and it is now 2.30! From Ann in Cork, Ireland.
ReplyDeleteBonnie- do you leader ender even when you paper piece? I can't seem to figure that out
ReplyDeleteYou might also take them to a food bank... we give those things away at our foodbank
ReplyDeleteUstream seems to be having problems-I hadn't had any problems until tonite and was having trouble with the video and then the audio started to repeat!! Closed all the way out and came back and things seem to be working better!
ReplyDeleteBonnie, I love the leader/ender system and it has revolutionized my production of quilt tops! I made two quilts so far with four-patches.
ReplyDeleteWhat I now have difficulty understanding is how you web things together, like this block, or a quilt top.
I'm still a big fan of all your methods, THANK YOU! Vic in NH
ha ha, I was just scouring looking for fabric requirements for the mystery.... any hints YET??
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie. First time I got to see y on quilt cam. Very fun! Hello from a fellow north Carolina
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie when will you be coming back to Vermont quilt show?
ReplyDeleteSuzanne from Centerville Ma
Did you say that the little ruler to measure the quarter inch cam with a particular book? Which one?
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie! Glad to see you back on QuiltCam from your travels. Finally got audio AND video on QuiltCam after multiple Safari reboots. Looking forward to your "Cathedral Stars" workshop in Tallahassee, FL in three weeks. I purchased the rulers and am pulling the fabrics together from my stash with you during Cam Time. It'll take another QuiltCam to pick up the mess in my sewing room from tonite. Thanks for "opening your home", spending time & sharing knowledge with a couple thousand of us quilters.
ReplyDeleteI'm never quite sure what machine needle size to buy, using 90/14 at the moment but I think I should go to a smaller diameter. In my area the Schmetz quilting needles are twice the price of the universal ones. What do you use?
ReplyDeleteBonnie, when you say zigzag setting, I know what that is, but I've made several tops with what was called "Patience Corners" which also makes the blocks set differently, not lined up in rows. Looks like dancing blocks, really looks good, and easy to do: pre-sash the blocks on two adjacent sides, then alternate the way you set them. Anyway, love Quilt Cam and all your other stuff, too! Carol (in Arkansas)
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie, Does anyone else get quiltcam interrupted with commercials? Glad you're doing Quiltcam tonight! Susan
ReplyDeleteBonnie - we finished dinner and came back to watch Quilt Cam. My girls - age 5 and 9 - enjoyed their ice cream while watching you sew. Maybe your youngest fans!
ReplyDeleteDianne in BC Canada
Your little webbing lesson really helped me understand what you are doing. I think the word columns down helped me a lot as opposed to rows across. Thank you so very much!
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie, this is Janet from Brisbane Australia. I am currently in Lancaster visiting the Amish areas. Loving watching quilt am while I repack my suitcase as we head to Chicago tomorrow. We are here for 3 weeks finishing at the show in Houston. Boy you guys are a long way away it took us 30 hours to get here. At home we gift the hotel toiletries to women's shelters.
ReplyDeleteJanet
Hey Bonnie...back to working on the James Mountain quilt (though my colors look more like candy-land!) Hope to have somethign to show this weekend.....
ReplyDeleteBonnie.. I'm so excited! I signed up for 2 of your classes at Portland's quilt block party.... so glad I did it the first day of registration, 'cuz I see that all 3 are now sold out! Can't wait to sew with you for 2 whole days.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to ask a question you've answered already, but I lost the little note I jotted down. Where did you get the clear extension table that you use with your machines?
ReplyDeleteDon't you just hate it when you realise (finally) that the bobbin ran out ages ago!! Phew!! Hi from Australia!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Bonnie!
ReplyDeleteI am on the waiting list for your workshop in March at the QM PNW Block Party. When I registered they were all sold out. SEW excited to see you finally!
ReplyDeleteThat quilt cam was great! I was new to "webbing" but got it fine from your demo. Thanks
ReplyDeleteI live in Winston near you. Family Services operates a battered women's shelter, they may like your shampoos. Plus there is Crisis Control. Thanks for all you do! B
Darn I missed ya (way too much work during the week to pay for fabric, lol). Can't wait to see how your Moth in the Window is coming along!
ReplyDeletemissed you again-asleep in the UK-I'm working on a 'moth in the window' to, loved the pattern so much had to raid the stash of cut blocks and strings that I have been setting up according to your system. First time I have used in in this way to make a complete quilt, boy, does it work! Thank you for your inspiration. xx
ReplyDeleteare you having another mystery?? I heard or read from another blog...
