Okay! Guess what?! I just finished my Orca Bay top! (pre-borders) I'll have the borders added and quilted by the time your next mystery rolls around. Thanks for all you do! =cD
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie, just getting started after dinner and other stuff. Will finish kitting up stuff for the mountain camping trip next week in Cherokee. I might even sew some spool blocks. PS. I got a vintage electric iron with a Bakelite handle. It is my new FAV! Hope you get better. Soon. Liz
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie: Glad that I'm catching your "Quilt Cam". Looking forward to taking my first class with you next week in PA. Although I don't belong to the guild, they have allowed me to participate in the class. Can't wait!! Quick question: how do you stay sooooo organized. With all your travels, classes, and miles and miles of driving, how do you stay on top of it all!! How about an organization class? :) Happy Sewing! Carmela aka Mel in PA
ReplyDeleteDid I miss the name and pattern of the quilt in the background of your camera view
ReplyDelete?? I just signed in and saw your colossal mistake of leaving the computer unplugged. You need me, admit it!!
Hi Bonnie. Just a few of us here tonight. Jo Anna
ReplyDeleteHI Bonnie this Bonnie from Va. I have a question about your sphinX machine. Can you drop the feed dogs? I just purchased a Repo one and can't find the S/N number on it. It is a very pretty machine with a great paint job. What model number singer is yours?
ReplyDeleteSew happy

Hey Bonnie! It's great to e here with you (it's 3 am here!) Love having 'girl-time!'
ReplyDeleteHadassah
Welcome home! I am loving quilt cam time...and how I missed it while you were away...thanks for inviting me into your basement! I am sewing hexies along tonight.
ReplyDeleteI had 10 steroid shots in my right knee over a 2 year period before it was replaced so I am feeling your pain. Ice is the best thing for it and hope you feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteBonnie, I found a 401A Singer for $5.00 at Habitat. It sews well, but, the motor gives off an odor. It doesn't smell like anything burning, but, do you think I should have an electrician look at it? The wires are all in good order. I am outside of Charlotte, so, if anyone knows of a local guy who loves to work on old machines, please post it!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for all you do and share with us!
Doris Rushing
I missed it... what are you working on tonight???
ReplyDeleteHadassah
Hi Joining you from Adelaide sewing on borders bit boring but great 'cos it means that I'm nearly finished :)
ReplyDeleteHehe, I'm here too Claire, in my jimjams *hugs*

Good for, Bonnie! You're not perfect and I like you just that way - don't change! (which I know you won't as you are your own person!) Freedom of speech = freedom to blog You go girl!! ♥
ReplyDeleteWhere will you be in Pennsylvania? I'm going to the Airing of he Quilts on Satuday, Oct 6 in Tunkahnnock, which is north of Scranton. The whole town will be covered in quilts, and there are 3 quilt shows, including one by only men.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I think you ROCK!!! Love the machines, the info, and your wonderfully sweet and positive attitude.
'LIKE' (pretending to be a like button like on fb!)
DeleteHi Hi Hi Bonnie hon, here in Adelaide in my jammies! I've never watched you on quilt cam before, how FUN!!
ReplyDeleteMuch love
Tazzie
:-)
Great being with you... it's 3 am here (Jerusalem) so I'm off to bed (again)... thanks for all you teach us ... you really inspire me!
ReplyDeleteHadassah
Hi Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteThank you for doing your QuiltCam's -- it's great having company when I'm quilting alone evenings in my basement! I enjoy seeing your projects and seeing your variety of sewing machines.

Hi Bonnie! Di in TN here: Was gonna watch you tonight, but decided to do jaccuzzi tub and glass of wine. Off to relax!
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie!
ReplyDeleteI have a question I hope you can answer for me. I want to know how you give your quilts that " Quilted Look"... The lines sewn in it. Plus... I found a silver bar that is bent at one end in my sewing machine where the accesories are. I think ity's called a seam guide and but can't figure out how to use it. Could you suggest something?A link to a video maybe? ( I can't find anything)

Hi, Bonnie! So good to see you tonite! Glad you feel well enough to do Quilt Cam. I'm sewing along with you on my Featherweight I found in May on my way home from Moline. It hums along beautifully and is sew much fun to sew on. Let's SEW!!!
ReplyDeleteSphinx is a Singer 27 or 127. Di in TN (now I'm *really* off to enjoy tub and wine)
ReplyDeleteOh! I was going by not too many commenters! Good crowd to be in! Jo Anna
ReplyDeleteare you going to use only orange or are you going to put some reds and browns in there
ReplyDeleteYou are giving me something better to think about than my computer which I am trying to bring back to life. By the way I got another vintage machine today - another Singer 99. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sewing with us! I love this! Our guild is having you next May and I can't wait to sew with you in person!!! I've been a fan for years.
ReplyDeletewhen you are sewing on paper... do you always use a plain side of the paper with no ink to sew on and leave the ink color on the back? Am really enjoying quiltcam and waiting to hear about the hexie/piecing retreat.
ReplyDeleteYay I made it on time for Quilt Cam and I'm so glad I was having Quilt Cam Withdrawals!!!
ReplyDeleteBonnie I'm just wondering where you purchase your acrylic tables for your featherweight machines. I'd like to get one that is able to go between the featherweight and my other machines if possible. Isn't yours hinged?
Thank for Quilt Cam
Hugs
I missed the name of the table Bonnie was using there with the Singer. Could someone pass it along to me?
DeleteThanks,
Margaret
Pretty sure Bonnie said a Sew Adjustable table.
DeleteWelcome home and back to quilt cam!
ReplyDeleteWhile showing a recent finish @ our guild meeting, I realized that the tip you shared for using cardstock to measure between seams would be a great one for those using jelly rolls - it can be hard to figure out where on the pinked edge to line up your needle.
Lastly, I'm thinking you've probably already answered this, but I just got home and tuned in: Can you tell us what the pattern is for the gorgeous quilt on your LA?
As always, thank you Bonnie. My signature tag line for many places and handwritten notes is "Peace and Joy." May your piecing bring you joy!
Bonnie, your Quiltville vintage machine page says, "1973 reproduction of 1923 Singer 15." HTH.
ReplyDeleteJust found pdf file of book for model 15K and it mentions using a feed cover plate #15359 for darning, etc. So bet the feed dogs do not go down.
DeleteSorry. I'm talking about the person who wanted to know about the Sphinx repro machine.
DeleteThanks Valerie
DeleteWhat I have must not be a Sphinx then. Mine has a button on the right side of the base of the machine that lowers the feed dogs. It looks like the paint on the repro Sphinxs but I just don't know trying to find out.
Thanks again
Bonnie T
Bonnie, do you have a recommended source for info on antique machines other than Singer? I have an Electric City by National, and haven't found anything!
ReplyDeleteTry www.ismacs.net
DeleteYou might also try yahoo groups. They have many sewing machine groups. wefixit is a good one for information and help on all sorts of sewing machines. And they have one that is japanese made machines like Bonnie was talking about. Lots of options.
DeleteHow do I log in for the quilt cam???
ReplyDeleteHi bonnie, welcome back! I am in my jammies and ready for bed but really want to spend some time with you. I am piecing strings for Zuckerwatt and tried you two blocks at once method. I really like it. Thanks so much for sharing your hints. I only have about ten more of the 80 strip blocks to do thanks to your easy method
ReplyDeleteJust got my "Quiltmaker" magazine last week and your quilt is just stunning. I so wish I had the patience to work with small pieces like you do. Just haven't made it that far yet! Love what you do!
ReplyDeleteAnn Mary
Can't believe you are doing this tonight after the major shot today! How are you feeling??
ReplyDeleteI got in! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThanks for doing the string blocks tonight. I have learned so much just by hearing your comments. I have been doing it with the ruler..didn't know I could piece the string...Thanks
ReplyDeleteBonnie
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are here for quiltcam time again. I just finished a crumb quilt this weekend and am happy as a clam sitting and sewing down the binding tonight. I used your idea of 10 inch squares on the back, I used up lots of oldies and it looks great! Thanks for another great use it up idea.
Hi Bonnie, Please tell your sweet hubby thank you for putting up with us and sharing you with a few hundred visitors in your basement. I'm sewing strips too. I'm up to number 155 of 320 that are needed.
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteI'm currently working on your braid design. I've got all of the squares and bricks cut and I've pieced 3 braids thus far. This is taking forever! Even working on 3 at a time I feel like the top just won't grow! Any words of encouragement/advice. I think I'm gonna need motivation not to just make this into a border instead. Too late for that as every tiny piece is cut!!!
Heather...don't give up! The end result is so worth the effort with Bonnie's quilts. They are just awesome!
DeleteI am teaching sewing to at risk young adults. So what did I do? I introduced them to Bonnie Hunter! We visited your blog! We are going to make hexies in Christmas colors and turn them into Christmas stockings for our first project. Then every Thursday the students are going to make as many blocks as they can in 1 1/2 hours to your Basket Weave Quilt. At the end of the session the students that have participated and come every night will get their name in a drawing to win the quilt. I will bring it home and quilt it! Thanks Bonnie for sharing! I hope the students enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteLee Ann...thank you for doing what you do. You will never know what you do or say today that will influence your group somewhere down the line. Thanks again.
DeleteBonnie, it's nice seeing you on quilt cam again. Hope your cortisone shot helps with the leg. I love your tumbleweed quilt and can't wait for my magazine to come so I can see the pattern.
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to tell you I love your new book, String Fling. I won the first $25 gift cert. from Fabric Fanatics in Plano, TX that they were offering on Facebook. I decided since I started following them after you were there this past winter, I would thank you for making me aware of them by buying your book. Of course, I also had to buy some fabric!! Love your quiltcam :-)
ReplyDeleteCarol Luce in Tennessee
I just found that my treadle is a 1901 or 1902 model.... Thanks for posting the site for the singer machines.
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited! I'm not sewing along, but love the quilt talk while I am fixing dinner! Bonnie Rocks!
ReplyDeleteglad you're on tonight. decided to do an hour of needle and thread making yoyo's for some far distant project (since it takes a LOT of yoyo's to make anything). got a dumb question about yoyo's and hope you can answer it. what side is the 'good' side? the gathered side or the flat side? hope you feel better soon!
ReplyDeleteI loved seeing Texas Tumbleweeds come in the mail today in Quiltmaker! On my to do list for sure!
ReplyDeleteI chuckled when your hubby called re. list. Mine has been asking me when we are going shopping for days now . He knows I'm leaving Thursday. I promised him I would not leave him an empty fridge. I always say I can be gone as long as his fresh fruit holds out, so try to wait till right before I leave. lol
I tried your paper method of string piecing and cut a 12.5" newspaper foundation. By the time I was done piecing, I only had a 12.25" block. Is this normal??? Lesson learned...good thing I wasn't going for a specific size as the quilt was based around the diagonal string blocks.
ReplyDeleteThank you for inviting us into your studio. That's pretty special.
ReplyDeleteBonnie. Just checked out the serial number on my White treadle. It is a 1909. It is so beautiful and would still be sitting in a corner with a plant on it if it weren't for you. Thanks Faith in Maine
ReplyDeleteDid almost 2 hours of hand sewing today and got about 12 hexies sewn into my top. Now my fingers are sore and time to type. Got my 1925 Singer going yesterday and did some sewing on it-decided if I didnot sew too fast maybe the motor would not smoke! So far, sew good! Glad you are back!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this quilt time with us. Question? Do you remove the paper backing?
ReplyDeleteJust registered for the Portland Quilt party.
Thanks again, Carol
My husband just walked in and said are you stalking bonnie again you did not get enough of her last week
ReplyDeleteThanks for QuiltCam tonight! It was the incentive I needed to work on finishing a dress for my granddaughter, that my mother started close to 30 years ago for my daughter. I'm getting it done and putting it away for Easter!
ReplyDeleteI missed it tonight. I tuned in as you were leaving.
ReplyDeleteBonnie, enjoyed quiltcam and am so excited, I signed up for the Ireland trip yesterday. Can't wait.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe I finally caught the quilt cam, I've been trying for months it seems. Only watched for 10 minutes but definitely wet my whistle for more!
ReplyDeleteLoved quiltcam as always. It was funny when you left the room and turned off the light, the window was open and you could hear the crickets outside.
ReplyDeleteYes, and the ticking of the clock . . . it was very sweet!
DeleteI could hear the music & watched the number of viewers rapidly decreasing on the screen. Then some shadowy movement...was that you (Bonnie) sneaking in to turn everything off-?
DeleteThank you thank you thank you. I ran out of steam and had fallen asleep a few hours ago, but woke up and realized the time and dashed to find out if you were on or not. Found you were and tuned in. It was very pleasant to sit here and work on whatever while you were working away. Please thank your son Jason for the tip on how to end things. It was cutting out before you were through talking before. I am super-impressed that apparently your son watches you on quilt cam (bonnie cam!) How sweet! Take care!
ReplyDeleteMy repro Spindx button on the lower right side of the base of the machine that lower the feed dogs. I really wonder if it is another singer that has been painted. Of course when I purchased the machine it did not have a manuel with it. I am now trying to find out what type of machine it is so I can get one. THe thread tension disks are on the back left side of the machine
ReplyDeleteBonnie
I really enfoyed quilt am tonight..first time for me. I can see lots of string quilting in m future~!!
ReplyDeleteMissed Quilt Cam tonight, my late Nap felt too good though. Maybe next time.
ReplyDeleteBonnie, I've never gotten to view the quilt cam. I discovered it several weeks ago but I always miss it for one reason or another. This is stupid of me..... Boy I was determined one night. I thought ok, she's 2 hours ahead of me, so if she's sewing at 7:00 I need to look for it at 9:00 Texas time. Wrong, duh, 5:00. Maybe this week! I wish I had seen it last night, I've not tried string quilts yet, I was at bible study. Maybe this week !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOK. Well just found out it's 1 hour.
Deleteif i'd see you at ikea in charlotte, you might have to pick me up off the floor ~ i'd be so star struck! ☺
