OH!! This is the month that Texas Tumbleweeds was being released in the magazine, and I hadn’t seen my copy yet. I was going to have to wait until I got home.
Yesterday morning I dug into all the mail, the boxes, envelopes and mailers that were waiting for me after a week away, and there were my two copies. YES!
I tore into them, showed my son Jeff --- and he said “Wow! Top of the cover, mom! Cool!”
**NOTE** The QUILT on the cover is NOT mine -- just my name at the top. Confusing, I know!
You know, there is no greater feeling than having your children proud of what you do. Other than being proud of who THEY are of course. My children are a constant wonder and joy to me every day. But the fact that they love to give ME high-fives and support me in what I do is just amazing. If you had asked me how they would be 10 years ago….I would have rolled my eyes and thought the situation was hopeless. But even tough-to-raise boys do grow up and I love where we are in our lives now that we can share with each other and really know WHO each other is.
And I’m rambling on a tangent --- I’m just sitting here typing away with my morning tea ((spicy chai!)) while I try to get this post out.
Texas Tumbleweeds!
I had a great time making this quilt. It was originally the mystery that I taught in Texas last New Years, and again this summer at the Vermont Quilt Festival. Both groups did WELL to keep it under wraps! So – if you’ve made this quilt and want to shout it out on your blogs now, feel free to do so. I mixed batiks, starting with a Bali Pop that Lisa had gifted me ---along with a wide variety of neutrals in different textural looks – mostly tone on tones – and combined them with a wood block print in brown as my constant – that had been living in the stash FOR. EVER.
I spent my time in Oregon in July 2011 putting the whole top together while retreating with Lori and Randy ---that’s my big push time for Mysteries --- and here it is a year and a half later and it finally gets to really see the light of day.
Those who watched QuiltCam last night -- -caught a glimpse!
Quilt measures 75” X 83”
Of course, my regular Addicted to Scraps article is also included ---Spin Cycle blocks are made from the bonus half-square triangles from Texas Tumbleweeds!
So guess what I am going to do with the extra copy?? I’m going to have a GIVEAWAY! Leave a comment below ----remember anonymous comments don’t work anymore. I encourage you to either get a Google ID, an open ID, a Blogger ID, a Wordpress ID – or any of the others that will work as “registered”. ((It’s free to do so and you don’t have to HAVE a blog to have a blogger ID. It just allows you to comment freely.)) It only takes a few minutes and you will be set to comment.
I will be announcing the winner during Sunday Afternoon QuiltCam SATURDAY AFTERNOON QUILTCAM time at 2pm Eastern! I’m leaving for Pennsylvania on Sunday Morning, so it will have to be SATURDAY. This is an updated announcement :)
I’ll even sweeten the deal by throwing in a Summer Breeze charm pack by Moda!
And since we are talking about Quiltmaker Magazine..I want to plug the Quiltmaker’s Block Party that is happening in Portland, Oregon March 20-23! I’ll be a keynote speaker along with Jo Morton and Carrie Nelson! Click HERE to find out more and SIGN UP!
And with that – I’m off to the dentist. I’ve got a molar with a bad crack, and they are going to try to repair it – but if that doesn’t work, it will be prepped for a crown. Oh JOY. I think I’ve had every kind of doc appt that a girl can have in the past month – the only thing missing is a colonoscopy, and that is on the horizon – my physical is at the end of the month and I know scheduling one is on their agenda!
Have a great day, everyone!
Great looking quilt! Your energy and productivity amazes me.

ReplyDeleteEnjoyed Quilt-Cam last night. I got acquainted with my new hand crank while watching you piece! You started an interest in me for non-electric sewing machines (I have enough of the electric kinds) and I purchased my 1st last Thurs. Now I'm looking for a treadle! I love the time spent with you and other quilters on QuiltCam; not quite a retreat, but a good substitute! Please enter me in your drawing for the Quiltmaker magazine and charm pack.

I'm loving Texas Tumbleweeds AND Spin Cycle! So much movement! Awesome! Oh, and don't even give the colonoscopy a second thought! I'd had 3 now, and you don't even know you've had it done, until they show you the pics to prove it! lol
ReplyDeleteLovely quilt and I would like to win a copy of the magazine
ReplyDeleteThe quilt was so eye-catching on quiltcam last night. I would love to own a magazine with an article by someone I "know", even if we haven't met personally. If I win it, would you please autograph it for me? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Bonnie!
ReplyDeleteI am sitting here on my last day of a short vacation sipping my morning tea right along with you. I absolutely love the Texas Tumbleweed quilt! I even have a bali jelly roll my daughter brought me from Bali that would be a great start! To win the magazine would be stupendous!
A shout out to Theresa...I was at the Wellsboro workshop too, but due to wedding prep for eldest daughter haven't been able to work on "My Blue Heaven" but daughter has been a Mrs. for 4 days now and things are returning to "pre-wedding" status, so hope to start up again.

ReplyDeleteCongrats on the wonderful quilt, you're a busy gal.
ReplyDeleteWould love to win a copy of the magazine. I have been following you for way over a year and I feel that I know you and you are one of my friends. I was scheduled to have a class with you at Celebration at Smith Mountain Lake this year and was unable to attend because I got sick. What luck. To finally be able to take a class with you and this happened. Hope to see you in the future.
ReplyDeleteScrappy quilts are my favorite ones to make. They do so remind me of grandma and snuggling down while she tells stories at bed time. The quilt is stunning. What a way to use all those wonderful pieces. Thanks for being an inspiration! Keep em coming!!
ReplyDeleteI love this pattern Bonie!! I have been thinking of doing a quilt in batils and this one just might be it!! I would love to win the copy of the magazine!! Cindy in SC

All those pieces are a bit intimidating, lol..
I can't begin to express my thank you's for getting me over the fear of totally scrappy quilts. I always loved quilts made by others, but was to scared to jump in and make one of my own till this spring and a class taken with you. Haven't finished the quilt yet, but already planning to add this one to my list of must haves. This new one just became my new favorite, when I saw it hanging from you pole last night. DOUBLE WOW!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks again from another....Bonnie
Oh, I would love to win that magazine! And I'll definitely keep my fingers crossed for rain this sunday (that would mean a canceled painting trip) so I can finally try to catch "European Quilt Cam time"!
ReplyDeleteLove the new quilt! Roll Roll cotton Boll is basted and ready to quilt, so I'm primed for a new Bonnie project. Best luck at the dentist!

ReplyDeleteI'm glad they sent you two copies of the magazine! I like that you showed how the bonus HST's worked up into a 2nd quilt. Scrapilicious! My Quilt Buddy called me yesterday Morning to ask if Id heard about PORTLAND. I had to tell her it's been on my calendar for a couple months now. I just didn't have details. Now I find that one of your workshops is FULL before I even had a chance to register. I'm SO glad you'll be that close and look forward to being there. It's only 4 hours from my home. Thanks for the Giveaway! Good Luck with your Dentist Appt.

ReplyDeleteSo many beautiful things you have done!
ReplyDeleteI caught the last half hour or so of QUILTCAM last night and that beautiful quilt was the first thing that caught my eye. I could not stop looking at it. I wished you could have let the rest of us in on the mystery...I could be done right now ;-).
ReplyDeleteGreat quilt, love the brown.
ReplyDeleteNanette
This is such a fun one! I hope I can try it sometime soon.

ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie! I LOVE the Texas Tumblewood quilt and it is definitely going to be on my list of to-do's. I have a couple of bali bops that I don't know what to do with so this might just be on my November retreat list to finish.

Another lovely quilt to add to my list. Thanks Bonnie.
ReplyDeleteThank you for doing the give away and please put my name in the pot. Would love to win the magazine and the fabric.
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteI already have the magazine but can't resit the charm squares. A girl can't have too much fabric waiting for a project can she?

ReplyDeleteBonnie,
ReplyDeleteI can only hope that my son will eventually turn out like yours, you give me hope on so many levels. Even about the colonoscopy for our 50th birthdays.
Oh, and the quilting, too.
I will be on the road Sunday afternoon returning from a quilt retreat, so I may miss your announcement, but I won't miss your quilts. I'll be taking along one to work on. Thank you so much for your thoughts and ideas.

ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed seeing you on quilt cam last night and your Texas Tumbleweed quilt is gorgeous!!! Thanks for the chance to win a copy of Quiltmaker and charm pack.
I might as well throw my hat in the ring! I am pretty sure my son loves me but he shows it by talking about the 'quilting cult', interventions, etc.
ReplyDeleteI love the Texas Tumbleweeds pattern AND the Spin Cycle block! Either would be an excellent choice for my Army wife craft group to do as a group project and then raffle off the resulting quilt to benefit our Community Giving/Scholarship fund! Hope I can win a copy of the magazine...
ReplyDeleteI'd love to win! I really like that Texas Tumbleweeds quilt! Very pretty!
ReplyDeleteLove the new quilt! Please add me to your drawing; would love to win a copy of the magazine, and the charm squares are from a collection which I've been pondering making a quilt for our guest room....love blue and yellow! Good luck at the dentist...hopefully you don't have to get a crown (and the bill that goes with it!). Nancy
ReplyDeleteHello Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteA big congratulations to you! Makes being on top of the scrap heap a good thing.
After doing about 70 quilts since I made my very first I 2004 I have completely fallen in love with scrappy quilts. (Maybe it's because I get to work with the same fabrics again and remember those quilts I've done and who received them) Looked for the mag at Wal-Mart and found that the store had been "redone" and magazines were at check-out, but no quilt magazines. Will have to go back to see if they still have their magazine rack.
Keep up the great work.
Oh yes Bonnie you are an instant success! I think of the hours and hours you have put in to being a "cover girl".....congratulations on your success and your perseverance.
ReplyDeleteI don't think you can have one without the other :0).
I'd love to win your cover girl issue and the little Moda charm pack, thanks for the chance.
I hope you are feeling less pain today and each day is better and better.
Happy Sewing

ReplyDeleteI really like this quilt & have a Bali Pop that I've been trying to decide what to do with it. This just might be the answer.
ReplyDeleteI would love the magazine and fabric. Such a beautiful quilt. I don't know how you do it all. I wish I had your energy!
ReplyDeletetvbart@charter.net
What a gorgeous quilt! And I have a goodly supply of batiks to get me started. I would love to win!
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie!
ReplyDeleteI watched quilt cam last night for the first time. It was wonderful to feel like I was right in your home having a sewing party.
The Texas Tumbleweeds quilt is gorgeous! I wonder how it would work in fabrics that are not batiks (since I don't have any batiks in my stash). I'm looking forward to trying out the pattern.
Have a splendid day (and sure hope your tooth is easily fixed)!
I am just about to subscribe to Quiltmaker so I would love to win the magazine and charm pack. I follow your blog daily and you are a true inspiration. I don't know how you do it especially with your pain issues.
ReplyDeleteThanks
Mary
Hi Bonnie, this is my first time to comment, but I check your blog at least once a day and try to catch you on quilt cam when I can. You are such an inspiration. I love all the scrappy quilts. I'm always looking for new ideas. Also love all your vintage machines (I have 20 now.....just rescued a 401A for free yesterday.....they had the needle in backwards). Thanks for all you do!
ReplyDeleteCindy
A giveaway, Europe-friendly Quiltcam and Downton - what a trio of delights for Sunday.
ReplyDeleteI would love to have a magazine signed by you with your quilt inside. I read all of your blog post can't wait for the next one.
ReplyDeletekcgm1955@aol.com
I love your Texas Tumbleweeds! All of your quilts are just awesome. I can't wait until November for the new mystery quilt! Hope you make out ok at the dentist.
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie!
ReplyDeleteThe Pot was already SWEET without throwing in a charm pack!! Very generous of you! Love your blog and often wonder where you get all that energy!! Yowzers! I have a hard time keeping up with you! Thanks for the great posts...and for the chance to win this magazine and charm pack!
Paulette
Oh I would love to win the magazine and the charm pack. One can never have too many charms! I have never been one to use much brown in a quilt, but I love the way the browns and batiks work together in the Texas Tumbleweed quilt. Sherry
ReplyDeleteTexas Tumbleweeds is gorgeous! I looked for this mag at the market Monday (where I usually find it) but they've switched to a different quilt magazine (we're small...only get one). So I would love to win this copy! Thank you for sharing it. It's a beautiful quilt! Hope the continued med/dental appts go easy.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your publication in Quiltmaker. I'm constantly amazed by all that you get accomplished. I've recently started working on some projects during Quilt Cam and have been amazed at how much I am able to get done in such a sort time frame. Love all the little tips and tricks you share to make things go easier.
ReplyDeleteLove the quilt! But then, when don't I love a Bonnie creation!
ReplyDeleteI am so hooked on Bonnie Hunter....love reading your blog, I watch your quilt cam, and your system for creatin scrappy quilts and your amazing quilts and and and...... the best part is your willingness to share all your knowledge with all of us. Someday I hope to meet you. There is nothing like a son's love for his mama and when they give a voice to "how proud they are of you" it's like icing on the cake. Thanks for everything, Bonnie!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'll throw my hat in the ring, so to speak, and hope I win the free copy of Quiltmaker. If not, then I'll run out Monday morning to buy it, because I love your Texas Tumbleweeds. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful quilt! That goes right to the top of the "Next to Do" list. Thanks for the chance to win. You are so generous with your time and knowledge. You're a real asset to the quilting community!
ReplyDeleteSurprisingly, our little boys do grow into wonderful "big" boys. Congrats on your wonderful quilt. Where do you get the energy to do so much??? Such a talented lady.
ReplyDeleteI love your Texas Tumbleweeds quilt, Bonnie! It just sings! We have lived in Texas and our #1 Son and his family still live there. This would be a great quilt for them. And that charm pack looks yummy! Thanks for the giveaway. Enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great quilt and since I live in Houston - of course I love the name. Congratulations on making the top of the cover!
ReplyDeleteI love, love your website and blog. You manage to have a positive attitude on a daily basis. Is this something you had to work at or were you born this way? How do you have the stamina to keep going with all your travels and sewing? Are you Wonder Woman in disguise? Keep going. The world needs more people like you.
ReplyDeleteLove that Quilt! The alternate block with the dark brown print reminds me of Oklahoma Backroads. Your creativity amazes me. Thanks for the chance to win the magazine. If I don't win, I'll buy it anyway. I hope that the folks at Quiltmaker realize what a gem they have on their staff. I know what you mean about getting recognition from your sons. For a while when they are in their teens we are so "not cool" then they grow up and if we remain patient they do come around. It makes me smile every time they reach out and show the love.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful workmanship, I love the colours :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for the chance
Congratulations Bonnie! I'm in awe in how much you get done in a 12 month period. thank you for giving the inspiration and motivation to many of us! If you can bottle your energy and sell it, I'll take 12 please! Congrats!!

ReplyDeleteBonnie, the list of quilts that I want to make just keeps growing and you are a major reason for that! You have inspired me to really get to work on so many new and old projects - thank you for the continued inspiration and new ways to do things! Faith
ReplyDeleteI've really been enjoying the quilt cam time with you, and of course, I love all your quilts. This one is great, and I look forward to making it (with the help of the magazine, of course)! Good luck with your tooth today. I chipped a small piece from my front tooth a couple of weeks ago, so I feel your pain......
ReplyDeleteI would love to win a copy of the magazine. I have bought every one of the 100 block issues and love, love, love them!
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie, count me in for the draw please. Good luck at the Dentist. Bev
ReplyDeleteCongrats again on all you accomplishments with your beautiful quilts and patterns. I have made several quilts from your patterns. I love scrap quilts. Thank you for the inspiration and I would love to win a copy of the magazine.
ReplyDeleteI'm planning to buy a copy of this magazine today, so if I win, I'll give it to a quilty friend.
ReplyDeleteI would love to win! Texas Tumbleweeds would be a great pattern to use up some of my stash.
ReplyDeleteThis quilt is wonderful as are all your designs. The added bonus charm pack is a beauty as well.
ReplyDeleteI would be thrilled to win these.
would like to win this magazine! and I am in the same situation with a cracked molar. Dentist has done the root canal and now the crown prep starts. Cracked right up through the middle. Oh JOY is right, but getting relief from that pain is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteoh no! I am just getting packed to go to retreat next week. Have so many things packed and then I see the blocks for Tumbling Tumbleweeds. I just might go off track here a bit. I love it.
ReplyDeleteI love both of those quilts :) I'm a new quilter, and one day I hope to have enough scraps to make my very own scrappy quilts!
ReplyDeleteWow, those would be tough quilts to keep under wraps for a year. I don't subscribe to Quilmaker, but I may have to change that. As always your quilts are wonderful! Thanks for inspiring the rest of us.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt and I love the secondary quilt made with the leftovers! What a great idea!
ReplyDeleteAwesome!!! The quilt is gorgeous! I would love to win this magazine as we don't get it in my neck of the woods. Thanks for celebrating a giveaway!!

ReplyDeleteLoved seeing TX Tumbleweed last night on quiltcam and can't wait to see it in print. Even better, can't wait to make one for myself!!!! Another gorgeous quilt, Bonnie!
ReplyDeleteI bet that quilt was awesomely fun to do as a mystery - so sorry I didn't get a chance to do it. I guess I'll have to take my chance to win the magazine here! The great part is not only getting the chance to make your beautiful quilt, but also the gorgeous quilt on the cover! Not to mention the nifty bonus squares block. Argh! Three delightful quilts in one magazine - really, I need to quit my job, LOL!

ReplyDeleteHere is a high five from me, HI!!!!!5!!!!!
ReplyDeleteLove your the scrappy look of your quilts.
Hi Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteI am so excited, I just came home from Goodwill and was able to pick up a Singer 401!!!! It works smoothly just needs cleaned up and oiled. I even got the cams, parts, and manual. And I got it for only $19.99! Yea! The only thing to top that would be to win your magazine. I've attended a couple of your workshops here in PA, love your quilt cam, too. Thanks a bunch. Jane in PA
I'm just as excited to see the Quiltcam come this Sunday as I am for a chance to win.
ReplyDeleteTexas Tumbleweeds is so stunning, my husband even noticed it while I was watching QuiltCam last night. I picked up the magazine and showed it to him in detail...I think that may be the next quilt he wants made for him! (And, unlikely as it is, I already have the magazine so don't pick my name to win!)
ReplyDeleteAwesome Quilt! it can be on my bucket list too! I hope I can catch the quilt cam, I don't usually sew at night. but an afternoon might work well for me.
ReplyDeleteHaving your Spouse and Children proud of you, and Hi Fiveing you is awesome! you are truely blessed to have such great kids.
Texas Tumbleweeds is a winner! Just what I need from you, Bonnie, even MORE inspiration! But I really would like to win a copy of Quiltmaker magazine. Thanks for the chance.

another completely wonderful quilt. that I want to make. Thanks Bonnie.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about the feeling of your kids being proud of you. My 25 year old daughter was home over the weekend and she just oohed and ahhed over my latest quilts INCLUDING Orca Bay and told me she would love to have more quilts and maybe she would inherit some of them some day? ;) I would love to win a copy of this magazine! Put my name in the hat!!
ReplyDeleteBeing from West Texas, I can tell you this is the prettiest Texas Tumbleweed I have ever seen. It brings to mind tumbleweeds blowing across open fields on a very windy West Texas Spring day! I would love to make this quilt and would love to win the magazine.
