Do you have something to work on too? A binding? Some cutting out? Some straightening up of the cutting table and clearing of the ironing board so you can find it?
Why not come and join me!
I'll stop and scan the comments below and answer your questions as I go along. I can't answer them all, or I wouldn't get ANY sewing done, but I'll read them randomly and we'll have a really good time!
I'm going to leave the QuiltCam up for about an hour or so----
*Note* If it says OFFLINE below -- you missed it! It's live streaming, not a recording, so you can't play it back like re-runs, you'll just have to join us next time!

ReplyDeleteBy the way, you went over 400 last night before I signed off!!
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie
ReplyDeleteGood to see you this evening.
I'm wondering what size extension table did you purchase for use with your Featherweight machines? I know they come in a few different sizes.
Happy Quilting

If you look on your appliances, they may be dual voltage themselves. Most do these days. If they have dual voltages listed, all you need are the adaptors. Good luck and have fun!
ReplyDeleteI don't have anything to work on right now, but its nice to watch & listen to you work while I iron!
ReplyDeleteMy cheddar bowties are done and at the quilters. When are you going to announce the next "leader and Ender" Project? Can't wait to hear what's next. I made 370 bow ties. Nancy from Kansas

Bonnie, What's the best way to navigate mary jos in gastonia? I always get overwhelmed! Also, bought large bag of fabric--about 12yards for $1 at thrift store today. How do I test if poly/cotton or cotton? Thanks
ReplyDeleteMary Jo's recently remodeled..much easier to navigate..thread content: burn a few threads, if you get ash it's cotton, balled up "plastic" is poly Chris, Augusta GA
DeleteUnfortunately, I have to make a decision ... watch you or quilt,
ReplyDeleteas my computer is not near my sewing machine ... oh well !
Hello from south Mississippi! Love the blog & cam, Bonnie! I am learning to quilt on my own after work thanks to talented ladies like you who share their craft online! Thanks! Sewing with you tonight...crimson and grey windmill blocks. :) gonna save the block on your blog today as I see that in a future project!

Tonight is the first night I've caught you. This is a great idea! I'm even enjoying the background music.

ReplyDeleteWhere did you get the "big spool of thread"? Is it 100% cotton? What ply? Is it available for us voyers:)
ReplyDeletemaria from VA
Yes! I think I might start going all fan girl on you. :) I've made a couple of your quilt patterns and adore all them.
ReplyDeleteHi, this is great...been doing a necktie quilt all day...what kind of light do you have there..it looks like it is black from here

ReplyDeleteMy husband has arthritis in his hands and when I started taking cherry juice for my gout he started using it too and has gotten more mobility and less pain in his hands. This might help. Tart Cherry juice or the tablets may help.
ReplyDeleteYes I have Osteoarthritis the Dr said to limit myself when I do hand quilt and use something like a tv tray or small table to use as support and also to do
ReplyDeleteHand/finger stretches before and after and wear the hand supports the brown elastic ones
Hope this helps it does for me
Hi Bonnie -- I'm here working on my Just Take Two -- and believe it or not, I'm using only just two fabrics. Perhaps that's why I'm so far behind? After this last block, I'm going to put bindings on two quilts that I've been putting off. Thanks for letting us sew with you.
ReplyDeleteI have been working on 6 memorial quilts from shirts.. Sewing rows together now. Yay! When you are using shirts how wide of a border do you use. I was thinking of making a thin shirt border before my final one. I have to keep all of the exactly the same...I have been in production mode from the beginning.
ReplyDeleteMusic is great! Sound level great! I sew with my iPod on shuffle as well! Similar mix on mine!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reply and nod to all the teachers! Can you show how you mark your corner triangles, stitch and cut the areas. thanks
ReplyDeleteMaria
Wow! Thank you for motivating me...in Quebec, Canada...I'm working on some friendship stars....until I get caught up in your quilting tips...love, love, love your the quilts around your room. So neat to let us join you!
ReplyDeleteI used your leader/ender approach and finished some blocks from one project while making a birthday quilt for my granddaughter. Thanks for the suggestion! How can I share the picture of the blocks with you? I tagged you on my FB, not sure if that works.

Hi Bonnie - I'm getting the border on my Orca Bay. Just wondering if you wash all your fabrics?
ReplyDeleteWow, this is way cool!
ReplyDeleteWould you mention the color of your bolt of cheddar fabric again? It was Tangerine something and the brand if you remember. Miriam in Texas
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie! I'm working on a string quilt tonight for my DS. That pile of strings has to end someplace!! Love the blog and the quilt cam!! Take care!!
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteI am working on your string basket weave pattern. Mine aren't really strings as I had cut them into strips, but they are the small width strips (under 2 inches). I am not allowing myself to start a new "project" until I finish all the unfinished things (some going back further than the one you're working on! Like 1999) so this is perfect for times when I want to sew but don't want to get into more complicated stuff like figuring out how to finish a couple of those projects. Actually, it is kind of addicting and I don't want to stop!

Hello All:
ReplyDeleteFound this quilt blog while looking for something else....loving it!
Ellen in Maryland
It's funny you named your new machine Doris. When I was a kid there was a local bakery that had one of those advertisemnts that just stick with you. A little girl makes a little boy a peanut butter & jelly sandwich with the bread and he says "What a good cook Doris". So it was one of those things we always would say after a great meal someone fixed us. My DH is from Texas and didn't know what the heck I was talking about the first time I said it to him. You just said "Doris is a good girl" so it reminded me of that commercial.
ReplyDeleteHey Bonnie...if you can work on this border than I can certainly work on my husband blue and white quilt! Working on the boring...I mean repetitive border now...Sio
ReplyDeleteHey, Bonnie, are you still working on your 9 patches? I'm wondering how you are going to put them together.
ReplyDeleteHave a GREAT time in Bali!
DH is gone playing golf, and this is the first chance I've had to tune in. Perfect ending to a day spent quilting with my guild friends!
ReplyDeleteHello Bonnie! You could even have an ONLINE Mystery quilt weekend..he he! Sunday morning here and I am just about to sew all day.
ReplyDeleteSo happy to find you here tonight, didn't think you'd be on Saturday night. I'm cleaning up my sewing room and listening to you! So glad you're here!
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie! Hello from Texas!
ReplyDeleteDid you try to match the colors of your Nearly Insane quilt with the original or make your own choices? Your quilt is gorgeous!
Sandy
Good evening again Bonnie. It's great meeting here like this. I am continuing to work on my "My Blue Heaven" that we started in Wellsboro, PA. If we keep meeting, I am sure it will get done. Gonna miss our evening meetings while you are in Bali!
ReplyDeleteGood evening - I'm working on a couple of blocks from an existing project - then it's time to put the sashing on my "Jared Takes A Wife" from your Ashtabula, Ohio class - working with you here on line is a big motivator to get this queen sized quilt DONE!!!! When do you leave for Bali? and when will you be back to motivate us again!!! lol!
ReplyDeleteWould be fun to see you using your long arm! How do you keep the blocks with a lot of seams flat? Thanks for the quilt cam! This is fun! Sandal in NH
ReplyDeleteI am loving having you in my sewing room with me tonight, while I put pieces for a baby quilt on my design wall!! I need to get back to my "My Blue Heaven" quilt from the MLQG workshop. Happy Anniversary!!
ReplyDeleteI have been working on a "Sylvia's Bridal Sampler" for 2 years or so. I think the last time I pulled it out was April. I have 45 blocks made....so only 95 to go! I also work on my "Grandmother's Flower Garden" when I am waiting at Dr. offices or other long waits. My Grandma started it in the 40s and I inherited the incomplete flowers when she passed. These are both WIPs and probably will be for some time!
ReplyDeleteLove the quiltcam!

ReplyDeleteHow fun, never seen you on like this before. I saw that you were recently here in Idaho. Would love to have you at our guild sometime (see you're booked for the next 3 years tho!) Hoping that your family's cabin hasn't been
ReplyDeleteaffected by our fires!
Bonnie, so happy you are sewing again tonight. I was in pjs ready to veg on the couch, instead I will make a few more crabapple trees tonight instead.
ReplyDeleteHello from Montana!! Just spent the day in Bozeman at a small quilt show where the quilt were hung outside on the buildings. 5 of us traveled to the show and I made it back home in time to catch you... what a perfect day. Thanks for all you do - and all you share.
ReplyDeleteFrom Penny in NC; I just tuned in and am happy to have found you live tonight. Does your plexiglass surround piece fit all your machines, or is it made just for that particular machine?
ReplyDeleteLOL! I'm here Bonnie--working on some quilt labels.
ReplyDeleteAfter 4 HUGE harvests of beans, we were ALL DONE with them!
Today---it was cabbage! Load the processor..push the button...load the processor...push the button...over and over and over. ((we're all DONE with cabbage now too!) :0)
Hi Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteWould you please answer a pressing question? When you press a small 4 patch square do you press the seam once before you open the patch to press the seam to one side?
Thank you,
Linda
P.S. I took the pumpkin pies from last night to a birthday party this afternoon. I came home with empty pie plates!
Good Evening. Enjoying watching you. I am trying to watch the PBR Bull riding, watching you and binding a small quilt.
ReplyDeleteLove your cutting tips.

Hi Bonnie:
ReplyDeleteHow do you kep from getting sooo tired of using the same scraps until they are "done"? I am so tired of mine and yet can't even think about restocking till I use more of what I've gathered. Hard to work in "a new coloring" with so much to get used up.
Karen
Hi Bonnie, I would like to use a pattern of yours for my guilds charity quilts. Any suggestion which one might best for all skill levels?
ReplyDeleteThanks
Sorry about the abbreviation = MLQG is the Mountain Laurel Quilt Guild in Wellsboro, Pa!!
ReplyDeleteWent to M & L today - I thought of you!
ReplyDeleteI JUST found out about this video session! Currently I am at work and when I get a break I turn the sound on so I can listen while I do paperwork! This is awesome!
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the great tips. I see that you are using a cone of thread on a holder for your piecing. What type of thread do you like to piece with and are there any tips on how to keep tension good when using a large cone of thread on a holder. I've had trouble with that. Appreciate all you do to inspire us quilters.
Pat in Texas
Hi Bonnie - I love watching you, I get great tips (still consider myself a beginner). Currently working on a postage stamp quilt between blocks for a quilt for nephew. Thanks again for this cam time!
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteI hear Mama Cass in the background! Just finished family movie night - and raced to Girl Cave to join you!
Bonnie, my teenage kids say you need to use a live chat box which is provided by ustream. Have you looked into it? It may be easier than using your iphone.
ReplyDeleteWhen you come to Australia n 2016 is that for quilt Convention?? It's a fantastic event! Looking forward to that! (even though it seems forever!!) suggested to hubby that we could go on Alaska cruise next year!
ReplyDeleteI made a jelly roll quilt with scraps. I cut it as I was cutting for the in Hershey this July. They were not the same length. But with the Jelly Roll, you cut off the first 18 or so inches to make them more random..
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of adding variety to scraps, my local quilt shop has a couple of old laundry baskets filled with fat 1/8's cut from sale items, bolt ends, etc. at 50c-99c each. It was great for my Orca Bay quilt.
ReplyDeleteNope, when you said your screen went black, mine stayed on and I could still see you pressing!! This is such a fun idea. Thanks for doing it.!! Dar
ReplyDeleteYes we see you. And thanks for the border tips. Do you know of any good antique shops and or fabric shops in the Lenior NC area? I will be there from Arkansas for a family reunion Sept 20-23
ReplyDeleteRecently purchased a new home where they had converted the 2 car garage now it will be my quilting room.
ReplyDeleteI really like the bright lighting in your room. Do you use the bright light or soft white bulbs?
Last night's discussion on ads and suggestion of using iPad was good. On iPad tonight and have not had any ads.
ReplyDeleteLove all the hints as you work. Hope the quilt cam continues after Bali.
Marcia
can you throw a few of those border patches up on the design wall so we can see where you are goingbwith them
ReplyDeleteLove scraps and sale tables at the LQS. I scored $1/yd. if you buy the bolt the other day. SCORE!!! Loving the Quilt Cam. It's like sitting with you in your sewing room. I'm stitching away, too. Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteWhat does Dave think about this live webcam? Must be kind of weird for him to be at home with you and hear you talking away in the other room.......(and no one else is home but you and him).....lol
ReplyDeleteHaving moring ta with you here n Autralia! hw cool is that :)
ReplyDeleteJust set up my laptop next to the sewing machine. Working on string spiderwebs a la quiltville. I never knew just randomly piecing with strings could be so relaxing!
ReplyDeletedo hope your connections don't get all messed up for this trip!!
ReplyDeleteany tips for making a design wall? are yours "extra wide"? thanks for quiltcam and for all of your vey helpful information!!! have a wonderful trip to bali! ☺

yay....such motivaton. six more wonky rail blocks done. this ufo is gettin' done!thankyou
ReplyDeleteI travel with my own tea because most restaurants don't have decaf tea. Why is it they will provide decaf coffee but not decaf tea? Don't drink coffee and can't drink cafeine as it messes up my heart, so she might not have been cheap afterall.
ReplyDeleteSpying your clock: 9:55.... And you sit....and start plugging away some MORE!! Thought for sure you would close up shop after pressing the uphills.....
ReplyDeleteso.... you've motivated me! Downstairs I go, now that I'm done with the labels. I'm sure I can find SOMETHING to work on. You are so inspirational Bonnie!
Hi Bonnie, Is that a turtle pin cushion that is keeping you company while you sew?? It is so cute. I have just starting watching your quilt cam on your blog and it is great! Thanks much.
ReplyDeleteI love quilt cam thanks for letting us come along . I'm interested to know we're you pressing on an ironing board or a table of some sort it looks nice and wide my ironing board never seems wide enough. Have a great trip in Bali
ReplyDeleteMaybe you already spoke about this but do you just lay on the square and "aim" to sew the diagonal seam to make the green triangle on the pink rectangle Or do you have some kind of marker on your machine bed?
ReplyDeleteKaren
This is my first time watching, and I am loving it. I am looking at my new fabric from all the local sales this week.
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie from Victoria, BC Canada! Sewing along with you. How fun! I'm finishing up a quilt I started at Quilters' Affairs during the Sisters Quilt Show week.
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie, I'm watching here from the UK! A hot, sticky night and when I got up for a drink I though I'd check webcam and there you were! Was working on a Florabunda quilt earlier today. Have a great Bali trip ... I hope to get my String Fling while you are away :)
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie, Vicki here from Devonport in Tasmania, the little island state to the south of the big one of Australia Just getting back to sewing after the death of my Dad last weekend. ReplyDeleteBought your new book last week, can't wait for it to arrive

My friend, gail, in macon cant figure how to comment. She wants me ask you where to get a table like yours. We voth have featherweights and love and use them. Se also missed the scissor part.
ReplyDeleteSincerely, gail's secretary
Hi, I'm a first time quilt cam viewer and just loving it! You just gave some great advice on threads and using serger threads for binding and the reason why you use poly thread for your binding. It all makes sense to me! Thanks for sharing some sewing time with us viewers!! Very cool!
ReplyDeleteAngela in sunny Florida -- do you have plans for quilting nearly insane? Hand or machine?
ReplyDeleteThank you! I see the tape! PERFECT! Will make my life A LOT easier as I always seem to have snowball corners to sew onto other units! Thank you!

Hello Bonnie, just got in from dinner with friends. Good to spend a few minutes while you stitch before I turn in for the night. I hope to get my sewing done tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your comments you make while sewing. Love the impromptu tips!
Christine from Greensboro.

Enjoying sewing with you..am putting strips for a Christmas tree skirt. My Featherweight is close to a twin of yours...slight variation of the design, but so cool! Got it about a year ago, all gunked up with inner grease, kinda like enough grease to cook a couple of eggs...cleaned it up, took it to a local retired Singer mechanic and it has been going strong.
ReplyDeleteThis is so cool Bonnie! I have followed you from afar for a couple years now. As God as my witness, I WILL take a class from Bonnie Hunter! This takes me back to when I was a kid...and I woul cut the chain piecing apart for my Meemaw, or Great Aunt. (BTW, you do NOT look nor act like my grandmother or great aunt!)
ReplyDeleteBonnie, I love this quiltcam thing! I wonder though how you manage to get anything done with all the messages you read and answer..lol. I love texting with my daughters but I never get anything accomplished when we start "chatting" while I'm in my sewing room.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how the 'quilt police' feel about invisible thread?
ReplyDeleteWow! Can't believe you are here this late....don't you have a trip to get ready for... and mountains to climb tomorrow? LOL
ReplyDeleteHave you been to Sea Grove??? Not far from you and you'd love it. Love your webcam

Absolutely the ceiling lighting in your room it appears you are not working in any shadows
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie! This is my first time quilt-cam visit. What fun this is! So... "hello" from southern California. It is great to have you visiting me in my sewing room. If my name looks slightly familiar to you, we met when you lectured in San Diego area before the Glendale Show.
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie! I just heard you talking about the cruise we took! Woohoo! It was the best time ever! It was so much fun, and I'm so happy to have those memories of my first cruise.....and my first class with you! It was awesome!
ReplyDeleteHope Springs!!! I've heard it's awesome!
ReplyDeleteBecky is over and she is working on your Nines Surrounded and I am working on the cheddar bow ties! Really enjoying sewing with you Bonnie!
ReplyDeleteYes, "Hope Springs". I want to go see it tomorrow.

ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie! My mom and I are watching you right now. She is cutting up some shirts for her new project. She adores you and your work. She really wants to go to Ireland with you next summer but I'll be graduating! :/ please surprise her and give her a shutout! Just say hey Suzi!!

DeleteThanks for doing the quiltcam Bonnie! It is so much fun to sew with you. What an awesome idea!!
ReplyDeleteif your turtle was a girl, she'd be a great myrtle. ☺
ReplyDeleteI went to get the laundry down off the line during the intermission. Don't you love the fresh laundry smell off the line in the summer?
ReplyDeleteNow back to Orca Bay :-)
Hey Bonnie - you should name your turtle Pokey! Love the quilt cam - I am working on my Stars & Nines quilt top while watching/listening.
ReplyDeleteFrom Di in TN: Hi Bonnie! just wondering what machine you're using? Looks to be an old black Singer? First time checking out your QuiltCam. Very cool!
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie, I finally am on with you. Last night someone mentioned that she watches you on Roku. If you can ask her for more information, I'd appreciate it. We have Roku but can't find USTREAM. I would love to sew along with you and see you on my 32" screen.
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie, thanks so much for letting us sew along with you, such fun. I'm in Melbourne Australia and would really love to know which shop is going to host you when you come out here. I'm a big fan and would absolutely love to be able to do a class with you. Keep up the good work.
ReplyDelete"Hidden Chocolate" sounds like a good name for a new/future quilt ...

which CHEDDAR fabric do you recommend?
ReplyDeleteSecond evening I watched you on the quilt cam while I worked on my project. I am making 288 flying geese, so it has been nice to have someone to quilt along with me. Love your answers, comments, and great tips. Happy Anniversary and have a safe and wonderful trip in Bali. Will look forward to the quiltCam when you return.

The 2 color quilts are more bearable if they are scrappy.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your time.

Hi Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteI am watching you from Brisbane, Australia, it is lunch time here. I can plug my pc into the tv using a HDMI cable, so I could watch you on that if my sewing machine was ear my tv. Don't need any intermediate gadgets, just the cable

Gloria said: "You just gave some great advice on threads and using serger threads for binding and the reason why you use poly thread for your binding. It all makes sense to me!"
ReplyDeleteI was able to watch for at least an hour, but that must have happened either before or after I was watching. So what's the tip? Why serger thread and polyester thread for binding? Inquiring minds want to know.
Hi Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteMy 2nd night watching you and I really enjoyed myself, thank you. I did have a little bit of guilt when you said you would rather being sewing because you don't want to be snacking! I was doing just that! The first night, I did pull out my Singer Featherweight 221 - 1947 but it sounded so bad...I stopped because I didn't want to do any damage. I'm from Surrey, B.C. and in Lynden, Washington (about 2 hours away across the border) this coming Friday there is an all day class on how to upkeep/maintain Featherweights...I'm calling them on Monday to sign up. I love my Featherweight. Sew when you return and I'm watch you again, I hope to be sewing and not snacking!

Enjoyed my evening sewing along with you. Thank you, it was like being at a quilt retreat.

Just a quick mention for those pesky ads...I couldn't work out what you all were talking about cos I wasn't seeing any and then realised teenager had downloaded Adblock for me...works with youtube too...
ReplyDeleteAw - that was about 2am! Missed you again! The annoying thing being that I was awake as I couldn't sleep - it was too hot! I could have turned the computer on - although the OH might have objected as the computer desk is outside the bedroom door! :-)
