Yes, I have sound.
ReplyDeletesound is on
ReplyDeleteYou have sound!
ReplyDeleteyou have sound! loud and clear. peggy ott
ReplyDeleteYes, Bonnie, you have sound. Could you maybe discuss how you know so much about vintage machines and their upkeep. Also, how do you initially evaluate whether a machine is even salvageable when you come across something interesting?
ReplyDeleteLove the sound of that FW! So glad you've got her.
ReplyDeleteName her Gail? Because I was born in 1957 just like her!
ReplyDeleteBonnie--Congratulations on your new baby. I'm sure she will reveal who she is to you so you can name her. I'm sewing along with you and working on "My Blue Heaven". Enjoy your new machine, I'm sure you will both log many miles together on the road.
ReplyDeleteI am 40 yrs old (41 on Saturday!) and I didn't know how to sew until I got into quilting 8 years ago. I am so sad for the 4 different vintage machines that were given to me and subsequently given away over the years.....always with me saying "I'm gonna learn to sew!" and getting frustrated in the first hour and giving up. If I could have those machines back now I would know how to use them and I would cherish them!
ReplyDeleteMolly~
Not sewing tonight. Deboning shirts I got for $1 each at Goodwill today! A couple orange ones, too. Woo hoo!
ReplyDeleteBarbara Ann, you know from the song. Or Liz from Liz Taylor
ReplyDeleteHi from Erie..working on my friends quilt. You are riding on my long arm. I like joann!
ReplyDeleteWatched last nite, clicking below does not work tonight for me. Will keep trying. Suzanne in Maine
ReplyDeleteThanks for doing this, you find the best machines.
ReplyDeleteThe low tonight in Minnesota is predicted to be in the low fifties! Love the cooler temps that come with fall! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteyou might be right on with the Joanne Woodward name for the new machine - she won best actress in 1957 for The Three Faces of Eve
ReplyDeleteThe Tammy movies were going strong in 1957.
ReplyDeleteHey Bonnie!~ Just got back from my neighbors.. I'm NOT making this up!~~ I brought her a shepard's pie, from YOUR recipe!~~ i made it today and put in two small dishes. LOVE your machine!~ I have a 1950
ReplyDeleteI have just had breakfast... down under. I was thinking "Shirley" but then when you said songs from that era Do you remember "Sheila say's she loves Me"?
ReplyDeleteThe White Turkey was started in 1952....close to 57...lol
ReplyDeleteWoo Hoo! Watching you sew! Thank you for all the hints and suggestions!
ReplyDeleteP.S.
ReplyDeleteNamed mine Sally, after my great grandmother... LOVED her.
If I am fortunate enough to get into your class...
I don't have my stash of shirtings, etc. like you do. So, can I use scraps of leftover jellyrolls and whatever?
I'm also watching an old Julia Child Show form the '60's on PBS--it's in B&W! The 100th anni of her birthday was yesterday.
ReplyDeleteCan you give us a hint--did you get another fab painted featherweight????
Gail :)
Working on an UFO that was a mystery. It is called The Cats Meow. I started it about 18 months ago and pulled it out the other day. Lots and lots of pieces.
ReplyDeleteMelody
How about Que Sera Sera
ReplyDeleteMary K
Awesome! - First time I have caught your "quilt cam hour". I'm a newish quilter so I love learning in new ways!
ReplyDeleteHow about Deb! I am named after Debbie Reynolds!!!!
ReplyDeleteDonny Osmond was born in 1957 - and you saw that "groovy" album of his today - kismet!
ReplyDeleteMy question is when does your mystery come out in Quiltmaker? I can't wait!
ReplyDeleteBonnie... you're too freakin' funny!! If you keep talking to all of us you won't get as much sewing done :) Ok, that's it.. I'm going to grab a glass of wine and work on my red Jamestown Landing.
ReplyDeleteLaurie - Ottawa
Yey...it's working now....and I'm just fine with relaxing and watching you do all the work...lol
ReplyDeleteDoris???? How cute for a sewing machine.
ReplyDeleteDoris Day sang Que Sera Sera (sp?)
Donny Osmond girl name songs ... Mona Lisa, Donna
ReplyDeleteSunshine Rose
Yes! Diane votes yes for Spoolin' Around blocks! Go QUiltmaker!
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie
ReplyDeleteI am working on my 2nd hidden spools quilt. Love the pattern.
Bonne from Va
What is the quilt on the LA?
ReplyDeleteBack to school section at Walmart.....that's where I found the Fiskars brand kid scissors with blunt tip.....and they work great! Will even make a nice cut on fabric! They have 2" blades, and there is a protective sheath comes with it. For kids 4+.....orange packaging.
ReplyDeleteForgot to say.....they were $1.47! Woohoo!
DeleteNo, you are definitely not alone in being a back to school junkie. And no, I don't have any kids....but now I really should start dinner or dh --both he and the dog are ging me the we're starving sad eyes look.....
ReplyDeleteIm thinking of using the 100 or so bowtie blocks in a 'Everything but the kitchen sink" quilt. I have about 3 half finished BOW I did not finished. Plus other random blocks from playing etc.. Like Virginia at Bumble Beans http://bumblebeansinc.blogspot.com/search?q=2011+quilt
ReplyDeleteBonnie--is that a large spool of white thread behind your machine?
ReplyDeleteGail :)
Sewing is the best stress reliever after working all day. Putting the borders on a scrappy tumbler top.
ReplyDeleteLiz in SC
Sounds like the NI border pieces would be a good job for quilt cam time, since you would have the distraction of all the comments to keep it from being quite so mind-numbing.
ReplyDeleteNo sound on the iPhone !!
ReplyDeleteWow, is that your spool of thread in the background? Is no one else amazed by that? It's HUGE!! Good to "see" you Bonnie.
ReplyDeleteFlexeril made me quite sleepy -- which is sometimes a good thing.
ReplyDeleteWow, is that your spool of thread in the background? Is no one else amazed by that? It's HUGE!! Good to "see" you Bonnie.
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie
ReplyDeleteI have a question about my 2 singers. Both are black singers, one circa 1927, one circa 1935. One is in a cabinet and has a regular bobbin. The portable one has a shuttle bobbin. Could I switch them around so that the regular bobbin one is the portable? Would the other fit the cabinet? I am by no means an expert......one my dad got out of a ladys garbage and the other I bought at a mennonite thrift store for fifty bucks. I would sew on it more if the regular bobbin one was more accessible.
Deb
I'm curious to know what kind of projects everyone is working on at home while they're watching you. I'm sewing on a scrappy triangle & square quilt for Project Linus.
ReplyDeleteArlette in NY
I am working on a top for quilts of valor.
DeleteIs it because you are flying out of the country that they are so strict on the scissors? I recently flew from Montana and was able to take 2 inch sharp pointed scissors - I believe they are the kind you can use for applique? Hmm...
ReplyDeleteBonnie, the iPad is sitting next to the stove......dh thinks I'm nuts. Especially since I haven't quilted in a couple months due to trying to get the house ready to sell.....
ReplyDeleteThe local used clothing store here in town had a "sack sale" today. I managed to get 9 mens 100% cotton shirts for $1.00! What a bargain! I see a recycled quilt in my near future. Nancy from Kansas
ReplyDeleteLucky you! I got mine at $1 apiece today and thought that was good. Wow!
DeleteHey I made it!!!! I see an Oscar in your future girlfriend :o)
ReplyDeleteTSA website shows scissors FOUR inches or smaller are allowed in carry on....I have carried 4" scissors on board many times. I just rechecked to see if it had changed and it has not. I use fiskars 4" kids and never had a problem.
ReplyDeleteWell I actually do have a question..... since a 1/4-inch isn't uniform from machine to machine.. do you put a note with a project reminding you which machine you worked on????
ReplyDeleteI just whacked off the sides and am adding 2 borders to have tall lap size quilt.
ReplyDeleteMy friends give me all their scraps. I love getting their scraps. Yum!
Hi Bonnie! Tonight I'm actually working on your boxy stars quilt that I'm making for a fundraiser for the DARE program (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) that lost its funding. Thank you for the wonderful patterns, and they are SEW much fun! :) I have certainly learned something new every time I opened your site, and greatly appreciate your sharing your wonderful tips. BTW, love the videos.
DeleteTrina from PA
I enjoy watching you, you are as comfortable and chatty as I had imagined. The 57 Chevy Bel Aire in turquoise and white is my favorite car, but I am sure you must have a machine called Bella.
ReplyDeleteWow--what a great tip about how to press! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteDoes your long arm have a name?
ReplyDeleteThanks hon...
ReplyDeleteBonnie, you are a BAD influence on me! Everytime you talk about going to an antique mart and finding sewing machines, I turn green! So, had to do a quick trip to Jacksonville, NC to pick up my daughter so made notes of an antique mart on the way and stopped on the way back through today. I found several old Singers and some other brands, but came away with a 1925 Singer-well used but purrrrs when plugged in and has knee control! There was one sitting on the floor that had gorgeous decals on it, but could not get wheel to turn. Also had no identifying info-no price. Had to leave it. I will sew happily on the one that doesn't look as great but runs!!! Bev (kwiltpharm@aol.com)
ReplyDeleteYes, it is FOUR inch blades, copied from website just now: The TSA allows you to carry scissors or any other metal object whose pointed tips and blades are shorter than 4 inches.
ReplyDeleteAnd I have gone out of the country and re-entered and never had even a question at all. That is a fairly large blade length so allows for a great variety of scissors. It has been this way for a long time. I always check the TSA site for any changes in anything--I take crochet hooks, knitting needles, etc. Never even had a blip. We fly a lot--husband retired pilot.
DeleteHere is something I have never understood--you can carry regular knitting needles on an airplane, but only short bladed scissors! Even right after 911 when you couldn't have scissors at all. I could do a lot more damage with a knitting needle than those little scissors!
ReplyDeleteOh... did I miss what these 9-patches are for???
ReplyDeleteYou should do a linky for us to post what we worked on while sewing with you! SMILE. I am working on wine bags for Christmas through the year gifts! Thanks for sewing with us!
ReplyDeleteWorking on my red Jamestown Landing.
ReplyDeleteAs for scissors.. I've had a little pair of those stork sissors taken by customs when we were leaving Canada getting on a plane to the US.
We went and got Ben and Jerry's ice cream tonight to remind of us our visit to Vermont. I enjoyed meeting you at the Vermont quilt festival. I am sewing on my FW tonight working on my paper pieced blooming log cabin that my husband designed while we were in Vermont. We are already planning on our next summer trip to PA next to take one of your workshops.
ReplyDeleteI'm making a kitty bead out of flannel for a friend's new rescue! Just at the quilting stage of the flannel, so this is great listening to you as well. Love my "Bonnie TV"!
ReplyDeleteGreat. Now I seriously want to be your next-door-neighbor-best-friend. It was bad enough that I just have to check your blog every day. Now I'm going to have to watch you regularly, too! You're more addictive than NCIS!
ReplyDeleteLove watching your methods. That chain-ironing thing is great!!!
Okay, please tell what the great chain ironing tip was. I watched, but DH came home about the time she moved to the ironing board, so I missed a bit of time....
DeleteI am working on applique while I watch. kwqilter@aol.com
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie, I am finally home and can catch you. I was wondering if you can give any tips on putting hexigons together. I always have a problem of not getting the correct sizes sewn to the correct size (hope this makes sense). They are so similar in size I wind up sewing them incorrectly and have to rip and I see you just picking them up and sewing. Help Please.

Bonnie, are you stll having sciatica problems? After I started taking Gabapentin and doing acupuncture (plus continuing physical therapy), it miraculously went away. Just had x-rays this week and I have a slipped disk, so even the doctor admitted that my back problem is like a sleeping monster that will awaken again probably. But for now...it's all good.
ReplyDeleteLove the QuiltCam--but I feel like I'm eavesdropping and/or window peeping!!!
Bonnie Hi, I'm Monica from Texas and I love the "quilt cam". I looking at getting my first antique machine. I'm wondering what are some good choices for my first "experienced" machine and what are some key points I should check for.
ReplyDeleteyes Bonnie... same Laurie and Jim from the cruise! :)
ReplyDeleteBonnie, I just got my first featherweight, it is a 1954 221! After listening to you talk about naming your new machine I need to figure out what to name my little beauty! Faith in Maine
ReplyDeleteI am patching a worn quilt that I had made for my daughter about 15 years ago. It was made before I knew anything about quilting and the binding was just the front folded over to the backing and sewn down.It was totally worn and frayed down to the blanket I used for batting. I just finished putting a bias binding on it. She has used and washed this quilt so much some of the fabrics have worn through. I think I'll just applique over those with similar colors fabric.
ReplyDeleteYou probably already said, but what are your plans for these nine patches?

Hello from Argentina!! This is so cool!!!!

I finally get to see you. I had horrible back pain last summer and now take Gabapentin with wonderful results. Give it a try. No more shooting pains. Love your quilt ideas!

this is so much fun. Almost like being there. will catch you later

Can't believe I'm here in South Australia, watching you sew. My dog is sitting under the table with her head on one side, wondering where the strange voice is coming from, so funny. Glad your new machine is running so well, you have quite a stable of machines now
ReplyDeleteAs you were in the middle of answering my question an ad came on so I missed it. Did you say all the sides are the same size. I purchased the hexis on line already pre cut.

PS when are you coming to Michigan
Love watching this!
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteWhat fun it is to "visit" with you here, Bonnie! This is the 1st time I got on ... You are so encourageing with your tons of ideas for using up the smallest bits and piecies of fabrics and turn out glorious quilts!
I've been grouping christmas prints (some over 20 years old but still seem to be strong and sturdy) for scrappy Christmas stars -- so have been going at it most of the day -- in spells. Found that if I do it for long, the bending and choosing and then cutting, my back plays havoc with me. I also found I have to stretch legs and bavk every once in awhile too.
It is 8:52 here -- my bestest favorite TV show coming on at 9 -- "Suits", so that will end my day. Was fun visiting with you "in person"!
Karen
Hi, Bonnie! Love seeing and hearing you again tonite. I guess I caught you a litte late, but enjoying it so much. I can't wait to see you in Oelwein, IA in 2015. That's my hometown...awesome. Tonite I am working on putting together my Orca Bay. It's going to be super...
ReplyDeleteI'm so jealous that everyone gets to watch you. Since we are 3 hours behind you, it seems that it is dinner time here and when I get back to the computer to check out your blog, I've missed you. I'll keep checking and hopefully one of these times, I'll get to watch you sewing!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing & promoting quilting....
ReplyDeleteOh Happy Day or night rather! I finally got to watch and listen to you tonight. It was so awesome as I sit in my little cramped RV with no place to sew but I enjoyed litening and watching g you.
ReplyDeletePlease don't stop the Quilt Cam I find it extremely therapedic
Have a great evening Bonnie hope to catch you again on my Apple IPhone!!

Juststitchin60@yahoo.com
Thanks for a great night of quiltcam! Can't wait for more details on Tammy or Doris?
ReplyDeleteSince I am in the mountain time zone quilt cam is around dinner time. I listen and watch while I am making dinner and tonight it was on while we ate dinner too. My husband wanted to know what the heck we were listening to. He thinks I'm nuts but it is so relaxing. After dinner I carried you to my little sewing nook and worked on a Farmer's Wife quilt block. I am making some great granny squares (Bee in her Bonnet blog) and using that as my leader and enders.
ReplyDeleteDang! I missed it again!
ReplyDeleteI always end up logging on about an hour late. Maybe I will be able to catch you next time. Glad you were able to find another Featherweight.
ReplyDeleteI missed you AGAIN!! This afternoon our power went out - and didn't come back until just now. The first thing I checked was your "Quilt-Cam" - and you are "Off Air". I missed seeing your new baby and your ironing/pressing tricks - AARRGGHH!! Am I being paranoid if the gremlins are REALLY messing with me?? ;))
ReplyDeleteI can see that I'm going to have to stay up all night - missed you again!
ReplyDeleteNever mind - I'm happy this morning as the postman has brought my autographed books. Thank you for sending them so quickly. I now have a complete set of Bonnie books - until you write the next one of course! So many lovely quilts - how to choose?? I'd better finish my leaders and enders Irish chain first...
Glad to hear about Doris. Your friend and mine, Janell S. told me her little boy Cal has been concerned about whether you have been able to replace the machine you lost to bad baggage bunglers. I will be sure to tell him about Doris. :)
