Lunch With The Mississippi Girls!

Where is the forecasted rain that is SUPPOSED to be falling and cooling us off?

It keeps moving further out.

Or it's falling in surrounding areas, but not here - because the mountains make their own weather patterns.

And while we are talking weather patterns, did you hear about the falling meteor pieces in Columbia, South Carolina yesterday??

I did not have that on my bingo card.....oops.  Another squirrel.

I also did not have falling clocks on my bingo card....but being called an "Accident Magnet" from the time I was young....(Forget the accident prone, I just draw this stuff to me like a magnet?) there was a bit of an episode after lunch.

There is a round wooden rooster clock above the kitchen door, and the battery was not doing what batteries should even though I recently replaced it, so I was lifting the clock down to see what was what.

I could reach the clock with up-stretched arms to remove it from the nail holding it, but as clocks are round and I didn't have a good hold on it it rolled out of my hands and fell...and what did I do?

I stuck out my foot to break its fall so it wouldn't hit the ground and break.

It instead hit the protuberance of my "ankle knob."  My right lateral malleolus if you must know the correct term, and WHACK!  That area doesn't have a lot of meat on it and man...ouch!  That smarts!

Icing helps a little - but not a lot.

And since I was feet up anyway, I finished stitching down the hanging sleeve on the back of my Open Window quilt.

And I stitched down the label - which will be signed. At some point.

It's done!

I think Open Window will release as a PDF pattern in September.  So stay tuned on this one....and go ahead and get your strings ready if they aren't already!

I used strips anywhere from 1'' up to 2'', but there are very few 2'' strips in here.  They are everywhere in between.

Oh, and before all of this happened...I did take photos inside the sewing room while everyone was out on the porch having lunch...

Cute Lori Holt pattern.

Bright and happy 16 patches!

This is a busy, happy productive corner!

And I just love seeing so many featherweights on retreat!

And another one!

Scrappy four-patches are happening here.

Another featherweight working on my Kismet quilt in the corner. Another Lori Holt design on the left.

Woven stars - so pretty!

Could it be that fall is closer than we think and right around the corner?  Here's some cute cute cute Punkin Patch blocks from my book String Frenzy!

As for me?  Before the clock debacle I spent some time pressing and cutting down the backing margins from my last couple of quilt finishes.

I've now got 1 1/2'', 2'' and 2 1/2'' strips to file away in these colors for future scrap quilts.

Those backing margins really mount up if we allow them to.

While they were once backings, now the remnants will be featured on the fronts of future quilts.

So.  I'm not moving very quickly this morning.  The ankle is stiff, sore, and doesn't want to flex so I'm back to icing and hobbling a bit to get where I need to go.

I'm so mad at myself!  The clock is WOOD.  It hit me hard.  It's going to take a bit to get through this, so no dirt road hikes will be happening.  And if the rain would just come I would feel better about having to sit things out.

Does anyone else consider themselves to be an accident magnet like I am?

  2. Oh Bonnie, feet up and just take it easy today. Do bindings today. Oh that must hurt. If I was there I would do everything for you. Although truth be told I'm a danger to myself as well.
I did not get to stitch yesterday, things happen.
    Please stay off your feet.
    Blessings 🙏❤️

So sorry to hear about your ankle. I have a dear friend who was just watering her plants, and now has a broken wrist in 2 places, plus a broken finger from her latest tumble. Stay safe out there! This getting old stuff is not for sissies!! Catherine in SW Indiana

Hope your ankle feels better soon - but better a clock than a meteor!

  6. I think you have learned your lesson but always remember if something hits your foot just the right way you can get a fracture easily especially as we get older - I don't know what kind of bone density you have but a fracture can happen easily if something drops on your foot. I got one from my phone falling and catching one of my toes as it hit.

  8. I'm definitely an accident magnet too! Sorry about your foot, Bonnie. Glad you were able to finish the handwork on your Open Window quilt while resting.
Catherine is correct that "this getting old stuff isn't for sissies." Last February my hubby and I were picking up our 2 German Shepherds from the Groomer. As we were coming out through the door I stepped up with my right foot and at the same time the 120 lb GS stepped down on that same foot. I heard a 'pop' and hobbled to the vehicle. The break in my little toe took 7 months to heal. :-(

I'm sorry to hear about your foot, those little bones take a while to heal, been there, dropped a mailbox on my foot, trying to attach it to a post. It reminds me every once in a while. May it rain every day until you are ready to hike again!

  10. My daughter has a tendency to have "accidents" ALOT We call her Calamity Jane - some she does to herself and other times things just seem to seek her out. When it's been quiet for a while, I start expecting another injury.... That's why there is medical insurance.

I'm evidently now at the age where a standard medical question is "do you worry about falling?" and I always say yes, but actually I have ALWAYS worried about falling because I have a lot of falling history. I never dropped a clock on my ankle but it's probably just a matter of time. We have the cooler weather and rain here in northern Virginia and it's delightful.

  13. Just last Sunday I tripped going up the stairs because my sandal tip caught the edge of the step and I took quite a tumble. Left knee now bruised but not hurting as much as your boo-boo! So sorry. I hope I get sent some cookies too!
