It may not be hot, hot, Arizona hot - but these Blue Ridge mountains are not used to this kind of heat!
The good news is? Temps will break tomorrow and rain and thunderstorms are expected through the next weekend. Not good news for my incoming Mississippi quilters, but let's face it - Once all of the quilting paraphernalia and food are inside - the weather outside really doesn't matter as much, does it?
Besides - there is something so soothing to hear the pitter-patter of a summer rain on the metal porch roof.
However - yesterday - let's get back to hot hot hot and our over-the-porch-rail photo op!
Cotton To Quilts shop owner Irene runs her Sewciologist's retreats with lunches and dinners included - prepared by Irene herself! She is shown here on the left, with friend Sherry and Sherry's quilts!
I'm not sure of the name of the one on the left - I believe it was one designed by Jo's Country Junction. The sampler on the right was Sherry's own layout of our Ruby Jubilee with Quiltmaker Magazine.
Anyone questioning why there were 13 people at this retreat - it's because Irene's shop hosted this retreat and she stayed in bedroom 5 as chief cook and bottle washer. And she does an amazing job of keeping her retreaters happy, quilting away, and well fed!
Three lovelies in the afternoon sunshine!
I am unaware of the pattern on the left, but I do know that one on the right! It's Monkey Business! A great one for using up small scraps, hunks and chunks!
More lovely batches of color!
A Christmas top recently completed, a colorful pineapple on black, and Monkey Business once again! (Those Monkeys sure get around! LOL!)
Sweet baby quilt made from a panel followed by Old Town and a newly finished Easy Breezy Leader & Ender top!
I love to see the Leader & Ender completions - and guess what is coming up in just about a week?? Yup! I'll be releasing our 2025 Leader & Ender project. Whooowhooo!
Back in the Quilting Quarters some things were still found on design walls - More progress has happened on the Rectangle Wrangle quilt from Scraps & Shirttails II.
Lots of last day sewing had more Pam Buda sampler blocks getting their "on point" corners added and alternate chain blocks assembled.
Some cute and Christmassy bow ties are happening here!
I love the calming colors of these blocks coming together.
There is a lot of activity happening here. Or was....I'm writing this post from my QPO office while laundry gets underway. Everyone has packed up and headed out and this corner is now empty!
Blank design walls will soon be filled with new projects with the arrival of the Mississippi girls tomorrow!
This is the best part of retreat -
I get to love on these ladies group after group after group -
Each of them leaving their mark in this retreat house adventure.
Tula, however - thinks it's still way too hot hot hot for her liking.
Last night's round of binding stitching took me half way up side three. We are getting there - and I really am more in love with this Open Windows quilt more and more with every stitch.
As I mentioned above - laundry is already running. That will continue through the day.
Housekeeper Susan arrives at noon to start her magic.
One of the overhead lights in the Quilting Quarters quit during Irene's retreat so a replacement was ordered and has been delivered. We ill attempt to get the replacement installed before the Mississippi girls show up. It's always something!

I loved the photos of Rectangle Wrangle blocks. I started mine when we first went into lockdown in 2020. I finished it in less than a week. It's a great pattern.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous quiilts and happy ladies, love your Quote of the Day, can truly relate it to everything in my life. BTW, my Grandma's saying was "It's always something." She owned a restaurant ;)
