Laying Low, Moving Slow -

Hi guys - I'm here to say that I'm moving a bit easier today.

I've done all of the things for my healing back before my upcoming trip to Iceland.

I've taken long hot tub soaks followed by ice packs.

I've rested. LOTS.

I've sat little, I've reclined some.  I've laid flat more than I like.

I'm taking my cues from Tula Tallulah Lou!

Hubster Dave came by the inn to mow the lawn.  We ate lunch on the porch along with Housekeeper Susan who is over to work her magic so everything is done before I leave.

We made beds.

I finished the laundry.

And in between everything I rested.....while okay, still managing to piece a handful plus of half-light/half-dark string blocks for my ongoing recycled shirt strings project.

Just some.  Not too many.  Not sitting in one place for too long.  Getting up to trim and de-paper.

Some asked about my sewing chair and why they couldn't find it in the the Quiltville Amazon Affiliate Store. It's because I bought it years ago from IKEA.

I was home by 4:30pm to continue the laying low.

Dinner was simply grilled cheese. As I said....keeping it low and slow.

I started adding neutrals to the next rosette for my ongoing hexie project - feet up in my comfy chair and feeling pretty good.

While watching TV I told myself that come morning I better lay things out and see where we are -

Look what I was surprised to find!

Evidently before leaving for Idaho at the end of April, I started attaching the next diagonal row....and never completed it!

Before I left I must have folded it up, put it in the basket I keep by my chair, and forgotten that this seam was not finished.

Evidently in my mind it finished itself! LOL!

So guess what is on my hand stitching agenda for tonight...and tomorrow night? I'd like to see this seam finished before I leave early Saturday morning for the airport.

And since I had things laid out...I figured it was a good time to do some measuring to see where things stood size-wise.

One more row will put me at 85'' long.

I have enough of the large motifs to do another diagonal row...but the smaller fill-in unts still need to be made.

Width wise? Only 66''

So with the next diagonal row (The one that needs the smaller units made) I'm going to end up with something long and skinny.

My focus at that point will be to start making things wider, but not any longer.

There will be borders of some sort, but we are looking a LONG LONG time down the road yet.

At the rate this is going, I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being used as a casket cover.  LOL!

How do you know someone is a serious quilter?  They pack their hand stitching busy bag for travel before they even start thinking about what clothes to pack. And that's where I'm at right now.

I'll be back at the chiro for a 3pm appointment, and then home for more laying low.

I'll worry about clothes and what else to pack tomorrow....

At least I know my hexies and the kits for my travelers are ready!

Everything else is gravy, right?

I just received word from Chris that she has 2 openings in her Christmas In July retreat coming up this July 23-29, 2025.

Chris and her group are coming from Chesapeake, VA (and beyond) for their annual retreat at Quiltville Inn celebrating Chris's birthday July 25th.

Out on the porch!

This is a super fun group of ladies, and they are ready to welcome you (and a friend!) if you are looking for a group to retreat with.

I look forward to having you join us!

Quiltville Quote of the Day -

That whole "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger." thing?

When did we sign up for this?

It certainly isn't for sissies!

Have a terrific Thursday, everyone -

  1. Bonnie, how do you plan the design for your hexie quilts? I would like to make one but don’t know how to design it.

You probably already know, but since you’re going into town you might want to pick up some of those heat patches for your back, if you don’t already have some. Your chiropractor probably has advice too.

  7. When getting ready for a trip I ALWAYS pack my projects first. Yesterday my quilt shop co-workers were giving me a bad time about this and reminding me to pack some clothes as Iceland is too cold to go naked! LOL! See you on Sunday.

    1. LOL, just remember they have 24 hrs sunlight. If it's a hot day, and it does get hot, it stays hot. Enjoy your trip. Envious in Canada.

  8. Feel Better! My ice packs are my friend between Chiro appointments.
Wishing my friend and I could join Chris' group. July is too busy with other planned events for me. Thanks for sharing progress on the Hexies.

  9. Bonnie...ask the Dr. if it would help you to have some muscle relaxers. That might help out while you are on your trip. Praying the back will get better and no pain while you are gone!!!!

I am so glad your back is improving and hope it continues to improve for your Iceland trip. I am enjoying the progress of your hexie quilt, in addition to your new strings quilt. I have started basting hexies to make a bucket list quilt--Grandmother's Flower Garden. You mentioned that you pack a project bag for hand sewing--have you ever run into problems with any small tools still being confiscated (approved scissors, needles, etc.)? I've read different experiences of what is confiscated by agents, even though it is approved by the airline. Some say it's at the discretion of the agents? What has been your experience? Thank you and enjoy your trip!--Lisa W.
