Blooming Right On Time!

I'm sure it's a bit hard to see in this photo with the sunshine fully on the mountain rhododendron in our yard by Hubster Dave's shed -

But there are blossoms opening daily - right on time!

When folks ask me when the mountain rhodies bloom - my answer is "Near 4th of July."  It's as close to a seasonal pinpoint that I can get, and this year they are blooming right on schedule.

Unlike the blossoms on the big rhodie in front of the inn that blooms dark magenta right around Mother's Day, these ones have smaller blossom clusters and are a soft baby lotion pink.

Last year there were not that many blossoms - could it be spring ice storms? Not sure...but this year things are blooming and they bring a smile.

Off the side porch at the inn -

The big planter box is getting its topper stones.

Anyone else seeing half-hexagons!?!?

It's a bigger job than it looks as they have to be cut to fit as they turn the corner.  Son Jeff is doing a fantastic job with this project!

Yesterday was full up with making beds and polishing all of the things making ready for the arrival of the Mississippi Quilters.

But in between and around all of that, I still found time to load up my little Lahinch.

At 35'' square I knew it wouldn't take long to quilt up.

I had thought I was going to take the time to put together a frankenbatting, but it turns out that I had a roll end remnant that was just the right width - no piecing required.

I chose a twirling leaves panto and used a sandy gold thread to quilt with.

I tend to use this gold colored thread (non-metallic) quite a bit as it blends through everything so well where grey can sometimes look dirty, or white/cream be too stark against the darker fabrics.

This color blends well through everything - and I use it quite a bit.

And I really like the texture of the quilting design!

Trimmed, and binding applied!

Now waiting in the binding queue!

I finished hand stitching side 4 of the binding on my Open Window last night - so now just the hanging sleeve and the label to go and I can move on to binding this little thing.

Anyone else have the subtle suspicion that I am making busy binding work for myself to give myself a break from the eternal hexie project?!?!  Maybe.  Just maybe.

The Mississippi girls were all off loaded and setting up sewing stations when I left to come home for dinner last night.

And the rain didn't come - now the forecast says thunderstorms this afternoon, but who knows anymore? We could use the rain to cool things off a bit, that's for sure.

To cool us all off mentally, here is a bit of Iceland waterfall action:

Well it's raining here this morning, cooling things off finally. The lawn needs to be mowed desperately. Hope it dries up somewhat.

I love seeing what's going on at the Inn and with you.
I sometimes use a light lavender to quilt with. It's funny how it works with all the varied fabrics.
Stay cool! It's still hot and humid here in Northern Illinois.
