Thank You, Bonniacs!

Hello from Idaho!

I'm having a great time with family - and I wanted to post this earlier, but on my trip here my airport layovers were super close and there just wasn't time.

It's now Sunday morning and things are quiet in my mom's house so I thought I'd pop on and get this out there.

So much has happened since Monday - my last day with the Bonniacs before heading to Bristol TN to stay the night at an airport hotel for my 5am airport arrival time Tuesday morning to start my journey.

It feels like forever ago we took this photo!

The purple shirts were so much fun and commemorated our Hamilton Gardens workshop weekend.

Our weather was lovely!

There was much stitching happening on the side porch - just look at these smiles!

Meanwhile through the window screen - a glimpse of son Jeff taking care of some window glazing that needed to happen on the retreat garage windows.  The new paint job looks marvelous.

Meanwhile in the Quilting Quarters - more blocks and settings were happening up until the time we did our over the porch rail shots.

From further away the sashing strips looked more grey, but they are really block dots on white!

There were other projects being worked on as well - including this beautiful Celtic applique runner reaching the quilting stage.

A few of us snuck out on Monday afternoon for a road hike up Roundhouse Road - the trillium are now in bloom!

I'm wondering if they still will be by the time I arrive home?

Some behind us - along Wilson Creek.

I see you and you see me!

The miracle of trees leafing out in the sunshine -

Three of us made it to the NC/VA state line!

Some begged off on the hike in order to get quilt tops ready for hanging over the porch rail!

Such a happy bunch and a lovely blue sky!

It was a bit breezy!

Nola is sharing her completed Old Town quilt alongside two fun quilts started in a Karen Stone workshop.

Hamilton Gardens, Old Town and a lovely barn raising set of something fun.

If you know the name please leave it in the comments.

Cute quilt that looks like polaroids, next to a lovely Pineapple Blossom from the Free Patterns tab.

So much happy color!

Two more Pineapple Blossoms and a cute panel quilt.

Old Town quilts side by side!

Thanks so much, Bonniacs!!

We'll see you back next year!

Street view of Crouch/Garden Valley Idaho!

We've poked through shops, went to the garden center, wandered a local thrift store, and have been enjoying our time here.

I caught this photo while heading into the greenhouse in search of plants with my mom.  Such beautiful scenery!

And yes, there is still snow up top!

Yesterday we celebrated my niece's 14th birthday by heading down to Eagle to catch her soccer game followed by pizza and family time after.

Every day has been filled with so much - but mostly time enjoying each other.

It's all flying by so fast. I have today, tomorrow (Monday) and head home on Tuesday.

Quiltville Quote of the Day -

Some skills take a really long time to learn.

Be patient with yourself during that learning curve! Don't give up!

Is they anything prettier than an improved nine-patch quilt of all ginghams quilted with baptist fans?

And yes, I did give mom her hexie quilt back - I'll share that from home when I return.

Have a marvelous weekend, everyone -

  5. Hi Bonnie! Glad to read you're having a great time with your mom. I love today's quote! I'm going to print it out and hang it by my quilting machine. I needed to sell my Gammill with the Statler Stitcher because I cannot stand comfortably long enough to mount a quilt on it's frame. The dread of that chore alone made me not want to quilt a top for the past few years. Once I decided to sell it, and had a buyer who needed time before she could take the machine, I managed to baste one whole quilt on the Gammill. Just one, and it took about a year for the sale to go through. That time lag was not a problem. My problem was my inability to make myself quilt or even baste the 12 other quilt tops I had finished. So now that the big machine is gone, I'm looking at sit down longarms. I'm almost ready to pull the trigger and know I'll need your closing words today to learn how to quilt all over again. From computerized to hand guided on a sit down machine. I'm absolutely positive that I'll be doing badly at it for a good long while. Going to start with the quilt-as-you-go method to practice. Might have to look at your words every minute or so to keep me going. Thank you for them!

  11. The photo of the two Old Town quilts side by side is a terrific example of how the same pattern can look so different with the choice of fabrics. There's a saying that "color gets all the credit while contrast does all the work". Both color and contrast are at work here to create two beautiful and unique interpretations of one pattern. Kudos to all the Bonniacs. What a delightful quilt show!

I was just thinking about not doing things well until we learn, my first quilts (The jelly roll quilt that is falling apart, etc) were so bad, but I was and still am proud of them, because of the joy and satisfaction they brought then and how much I've learned since.
