Antique Mall Hopping!

It was an antique mall hop weekend!  Whooohooo!

It had been a while - a long while.

And it all started on Friday - remember that mammogram appointment that I had scheduled for Friday afternoon?

I got there just in time...only to find out that they had tried to reschedule me while I was in England.  Of course the call didn't go through because I only use wifi when available when I am abroad. So I show up to no appointment.

A new appointment was made at that time.  And I had some more time to kill in between what was supposed to be the mammogram and my next up appointment with the chiropractor.

So my day turned out to be haircut, antique mall, chiropractor.  Works for me!

How fin is this?  A bunch of Ohio Stars with random string blocks thrown in I would guess to "Make it big enough."

And I love that several of the stars have substitution fabrics as there was not enough of the main thing to complete each block.

I love this "Oh, Whatever!" approach to quilting!

This was a sweet one with double pinks and a soft light blue resist print.

Four patches in a nine patch!

On Saturday we headed out with some friends to hit the Christmas Market in Wytheville - what fun!  There were all kinds of booths for crafts and baked goods.

I bought some yummy smelling goat milk lotion from a vendor - I always try to bring something home from someone.

And what were we supposed to do about that antique mall across the street? Ignore it?  Not a change!

Nowhere to unfold it, but isn't this a sweet Drunkard's Path?

Sometimes quilts are used as table cloths as in the case of this turkey tracks quilt.  I love the soft jade green with the red. It still feels like it could be a Christmas quilt - but is good for any season.

More 1930s nine-patches!

There were a couple of really beautiful quilts tied to the corners of a cabinet - no way to get them down and really insect them but I can only imagine the work that went into this Carolina Lily.

These are some of those red prints where the black design on the red was so caustic to the fabric that it just ate it away. Something to do with mordants in the dying/printing process?

The most precious memory calling find of the day!
As much as I love to post about the "weird" find of the day - here is one that tugged at my heartstrings.
I remember my boys as babies playing with this tupperware shape ball for hours.
Both of them went through this thing - and I think I found mine at a yardsale somewhere when Jason was little.
They are now 43 and nearly 35.  But the years went so quickly in reverse as I held this ball in my hands and could picture them so clearly sitting on the living room floor with the shapes all around them, fitting them into the holes one by one.
It was a marvelous day out with friends that ended at dinner at a local Mexican place.
As for yesterday?  It was a complete fog-out-icy-rainy-mix kind of stay home day. It hovered right at freezing for most of the day.
We made the pilgrimage over to the inn to check in on Tula and make sure she was fed for the day.
I printed off some things that I needed in mi office and then I spent the rest of the day doing much of nothing.

I stitched hexies while finishing Black Doves on Netflix (Fun little spy series that takes place in London at Christmas time so there are lots of places I recognized!) and went in to binging Call The Midwife. 
We made things even more lazy by baking up a frozen pizza (Yes, we doctor it up so it's not that bad...) and watching a couple more Christmas movies.
It was a TOTAL couch day and I loved it.

The assembly process has begun!

I've got this section pieced together - There is another setting "triangle" in neutrals that is in progress for the upper right corner. See layout photo above.

I'll kbe building this thing in diagonal rows and though there are many many units still to make, I just wanted to see some of it coming together.

I am liking the plain setting triangles so much better than the ones I tried that had half-motifs in them.

London at Night!

I have so many photos that I could post for two weeks or more with nothing but photo from our England trip - so here are a few more for your viewing pleasure -

The lights were so festive! And maybe that's the upside of things being pitch black by 4:30pm. The lights all come on.

Today's plan?

That red/neutral quilt is all laid out on the QPO studio floor.  I have some desk work ahead of me (Hey, it is Monday after all.) and then I want to start putting that together.

Here we go into another week - Less than 10 days until Christmas, and another Old Town clue to post on Friday.
