The Way to Machu Picchu!

20151107_090019
Machu Picchu by train!

What an amazing way to travel!

And yes, on this 4 hour train ride from just outside of Cusco to the town of Machu Picchu – there was time for a little bit of hand stitching, but not much – as the scenery outside of our windows, and the domed ceiling above was too magnificent to miss.

The stitching went away as a breakfast snack was served and we settled in with great anticipation for the culminating adventure of our Peruvian journey – Machu Picchu!

Are we ready to ride!

Absolutely!

The gang is all here!

And so are the vendors!

I love traveling by train, and this was a great relaxing experience as we left the heights of Cusco and descended lower to about 8,000 feet to  Machu Picchu Pueblo.

our scenery was amazing!

Mountains were HIGH!

Look closely – do you see 3 things that look like cocoons on the side of the mountain?  Those are actual huts for mountain climbers.  I had to do some research on these when I got home…there is NO WAY I would sleep here:

Uhhh..no thank you!

Seriously?!

You have to climb a 400 ft cliff to  be able to get to them.  I like my room comfortable please!  More info on these HERE.

I’ve included loads of scenery photos in the slide show below.  But perhaps the ones that touched my heart the most are these:

A woman selling flowers at one of our stops.

An older woman in Peruvian dress.

My heart went out to them both!

The Train to Machu Picchu, Nov 2015

I’m off to Columbia, SC today for a lecture tonight and a Talkin’ Turkey workshop tomorrow!

I hope to see my son for dinner tomorrow night after the workshop is over before heading straight back home.  I have Wednesday home, and then on to Raleigh for my last gig of the year on Thursday!

Something to be watching for! I have something VERY SPECIAL happening here on the blog on Thursday, November 19th!  Guess what is hitting newsstands?!

There WILL be a giveaway involved, so don’t miss it!

Happy Monday, everyone!

Bonnie, when I did the train ride, there were police everywhere with the BIG guns. On board, on the platform, etc. Apparently, the farmers were striking and thus the need for the BIG guns. It was a bit scary but all ended well.

Let me echo the comment that others have made ... you have brightened my life by sharing pictures of your travels. At age 81, I'll probably never have the opportunity to visit any of the places you've been ... Thanks so much for your generosity.
