I think we’ve hooked her!
We’ve hooked her good!
As I was working in mom’s sewing room yesterday we came across some gifted BAGS of small scraps. Does this sound familiar?!?
It seems she came home one evening and found FOUR large lawn & leaf bags full of random gifted scraps on her front porch!
Never one to look a gift horse in the mouth, she set along to sort out the fabrics and to determine which to keep, which to pitch, and which to donate.
Then this morning I gifted her a Dresden Ruler and set about teaching her how to join in on our Tumbler Leader & Ender Challenge!
Cutting out Tumblers!
Ready to sew a pair together!
Offset the pieces just a hair leaving a small dog ear at either end!
This will ensure that the row will be straight across after sewing. It might take a couple of tries to figure out just how far you need to overlap with your seam allowance, but a few tries and you will be able to eyeball it just fine.
Mom is sewing away!
ready to join these pairs together!
I cherish these photos, so glad I took them!
And so the row grows!
It’s going to be fun to see how mom’s quilt grows –I can’t wait to get home to mine!
Bye Bye, Garden Valley!
I’m on my way home to North Carolina this morning. This past week has flown by, I can scarcely believe that I was headed to Las Vegas this time last Thursday.
Life is like that….so make good memories, hug those you love tightly, focus on the beauty and change the things that do not make you happy!
I’ll catch you from home ---
Your tumbler challenge inspired me this summer, I now have a tumbler charm quilt (one that I never expected to make right now)under the needle on the longarm and a second one appearing as a top before my very eyes!! Thank YOU!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you got to spend quality time with your Mother and took the pics of her sewing. You will cherish them later.
ReplyDeleteI am hooked!! Three Bonnie quilts are growing in the sewing room! Pfeffernusse, Garden Party and now the Tumbler challenge. I am cutting some tumblers every evening. It is too hot in the my sewingroom in daytime. Summer has at last come to Northern Norway and life is good.
ReplyDeleteThey are indeed addictive. I have made 8 quilted place mats with my 2 1/2" tumbler blocks and now I am making a memory quilt with my parents' clothing.

It's so nice that you and Mom both have the same love for fabric. Was she your driving force towards the quilting or did she learn it from you?
ReplyDeleteMy mom sewed but she stuck to clothing and curtains. I don't enjoy clothing and curtains...my love is with the quilting...

ReplyDeleteHi, Bonnie's mom. Cherish your moments together. You are so lucky to still have each other and be able to enjoy time together. I lost my mom at the tender age of 27 and I miss her terribly to this day. She was a good seamstress. She made pretty dresses for my little sister and me
ReplyDelete. Love you, mom XX
I'm cutting 2'5 strips and then tumblers every day. Still so many scraps. As soon as the shoebox is full, I'll start to make strips. Ok Ok I have started already! I'm also working on 2" squares to go into 9-patches for Rick Rack Nines from Leaders and Enders. I may be crazy!
ReplyDeleteI loved the pictures of your mom sewing. She is so cute, love her smile. So glad you get to sew together sometimes. I am glad you got to visit and had a great time. Love the barn with the quilt on it. so beautiful.

ReplyDeleteI'm still cutting for the tumbler challenge! Strips of 4 1/2, 2 1/2, and 1 1/2" are getting a pair each of tumblers cut from the Dresden template, different parts of the template. The 1 1/2" strips will become part of a "thimbles" quilt! The rest of the strips will go into other projects on board right now. This is going to be FUN! Thanks, Bonnie!
ReplyDeleteLucky Lady - and yes you look just like your Mom and to have the same interest is absolutely a gift!
ReplyDeleteI know my Mom would of loved your style. She used every scrap she could get her hands on, with 13 kids she had to. She has been gone 17 years as of last August 5. And I miss her ever second of every day. So I am really Glad you got to spend a week with your Mom, the Pictures are great. Jean Hudson UP of MI hudsonzoo@charter.net
ReplyDeleteLove this post Bonnie. And thanks for the tip about the "offset" with the tumbler blocks. I have some fruit/veggie fabric that has been hanging around forever. I think I'm going to use those with the tumbler quilt--with a 3 1/2 inch or so size to show the fabrics. Interspersed probably with neutrals...
ReplyDeleteBonnie, I love the posts about your mom and her garden/sewing place. Boy do you two look alike.
ReplyDeleteI keep my tumblers in a box, right beside my sewing machine..... The 5in. Tumblers go through as Leaders and Enders, no matter what else I am working on.... The rows grow so quickly!
ReplyDeleteThe 2.5 in. Is pretty small for me, but the 3.5in. ones might be my next size to try....
Tumble on, everyone!
