The bay was at its calmest early on Sunday morning.
What better thing to do than pack breakfast in the car, and drive out to the end of the road and see what nature has to say?
May comes as a gentle relief to this region that can be badly battered and beaten during the worst months of the winter.
This morning Seward put on its best beauty and brought peace to my soul.
As I walked the shore line I thought about what things might have been like here 100 years before. Harsh and brutal – but filled with so much hope of providing a life and a livelihood to families who had come from all over to make this part of Alaska their home.
My favorite photo EVER!
The sun shines down on this old boat, permanently in dry dock.
((okay, I have to admit it – a certain song was going through my head with lyrics of “A Three Hour Tour, a Three Hour Tour….”)) But look at the beautiful view!
It was indeed a good morning in Seward, AK!
Gentle waves lapping at a lonely cove.
I left my footprints on the shores of Resurrection Bay. And Seward left its footprints on my heart!
Can you beat this glory?
No, but you can add to it with this waterfall:
Still many other photos to come! After this restful morning, we boarded a boat for a Kenai Fjords tour –6 hours discovering the wonders of the Fjords!
Yesterday our 12 hour train ride was fabulous, bringing us from Anchorage all the way to Fairbanks.
Today we move on down to Delta Junction where I’ll be meeting with the Forget-me-knot Quilters for two days of workshops and a lecture. Looking forward to seeing them again!
Will post when I can as wifi and time is available!
Much love from the land of the midnight sun – which is no lie, sun set at 11:30pm here last night and was up again by 4am! Egad.
did you look close for any gold flakes or nuggets? gorgeous scenery....
ReplyDeleteOh Bonnie, your pictures are beautiful! My son and daughter-in-law live in Seward and we have visited a couple of times and have been to those same places as you were. Looking forward to our visit later this year. Thank you for making me feel close to our family there through your pictures and words.
ReplyDeleteYou brought back memories of last May when we stayed in cabins on Lowell Point-passed the waterfall on the way to Angel's Rest. The scenery around Resurrection Bay and the Kenai Fjords National Part is breathtaking. Can't wait to see your day cruise photos.
ReplyDeleteWhat breathtaking scenes, thank you for sharing. I would love to walk in your footsteps. Eagerly awaiting more striking views you encounter on your travels.

I was in the hospital on Monday due to a severe asthma attack due to the pollen...can you believe it? Pollen! I wanted to sit and stitch, but didn't have the energy to -- Facebook and browsing blogs is about all. Never-mind wanting to talk, but every breath was an effort. So many times, something happens to each and every one of us - whether it be with another family member, or just wanting to be uplifted in some way -- or even to be encouraged to "make" or find ideas on our next quilt, etc.
ReplyDeleteSorry this is so long...I just wanted to say: I love how we can live through all your adventures with you. I know how much travelling can take out of a person and how much effort it is to keep up your blog, Facebook and the like. I wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart!
I love your photos!
ReplyDeleteThe landscape looks so peaceful! Amazing!
Greetings, Heike
Photos are gorgeous. Would like to hear about the 12 hour train ride.
ReplyDeleteBonnie, glad that you are getting some "me" time. Enjoy the journey.
ReplyDeleteI remember those looonnnnng summer daylight hours and trying to sleep so we could get up and go to work the next day. We lived in Anchorage 7 years. Your photos bring back so many memories.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the wonderful photos. Enjoy your visit and everything Alaska has to offer.
