Happy Christmas Eve!
I think our warm spell is over --- there is a chilly wind blowing – the sky is clear, the rain is gone and the sun is shining.
I was up early – filling the cabin with yummy smells from the kitchen.
I like to chill sugar cookie dough overnight in the fridge before rolling and cutting out ---this is a shot of my counter top this morning!
Ready to go into the oven and will be iced later!
iced soft ginger cookies with sprinkles were made last night
((There are more sprinkles under the rack than are on the cookies – go figure!))
I even managed a nap yesterday afternoon ---and when I awoke, I had new knobs installed
I like the squares!!
Before, they were just brass things like this:
Bleh! I do like the dark squares better.
The question remains….now what do I do with THESE?
There seem to be two kinds. Or two batches?
The ones on the left are very heavy solid brass.
The ones on the right are lighter and shinier and must be some kind of alloy?
All in all – it was a wonderful day! Capped off with the perfect sunset off the west side of the deck:
One beautiful on-fire sunset!
And as the sun went down, The Hubster’s Christmas lights came on along the split rail fence in the front just as Jason arrived from South Carolina – and all was peaceful in our world:
Jeff is working until 3pm today, and then he will be up. And then it really WILL be Christmas for our family!
From our little cabin to your home ---Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas Bonnie - have a good week with your family - thanks for sharing all you do throughout the year
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas! Your cabinets look very pretty with the new knobs. Maybe you could put the old ones on Craigslist or Freecycle. I'm sure someone could use them and be very pleased to get them. Have a very happy holiday; we'll all be waiting on Friday for the next clue. Love the mystery so far.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas Bonnie from Heather in chilly but sunny England :)
ReplyDeleteMerry christmas, Bonnie and thank you for sharing your life at tha cabin. It looks very relaxing and nice.I also want to say thank you for giving me such fun time with the celtice solstice in the winter. It is a perfect time for mystery.
ReplyDeleteyou can get good money recycling the brass! more fabric perhaps a vintage machine, some cool thread!! Enjoy
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas Bonnie! Thank you for sharing your life and talents with us. Enjoy your family and getaway this Christmas season!

Merry Christmas from Florida! Our weather is going to be a little cooler too!! Your sugar cookies came out much better than ours. I have learned to use parchment paper for all my cookie baking. There is no need to grease the pans and the cookies don't burn (unless you leave them in the oven too long LOL)....Since you share so much with us I thought I would share that tidbit with you. Have a great week with your family. I am going to be working on steps 3 and 4 so I am ready for the next one and not behind on the Celtic mystery. I did learn I don't have many yellows or orange fabrics but I am determined to make due with the fabric I have. Marry Christmas!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat to do with the old knobs? Donate them to Habitat for Humanity Restore. Someone may love them, if not, a coat of paint and they will be ready to go. Merry Christmas
ReplyDeleteThis was going to be my suggestion, too. And while there, Bonnie may want to look around for unbelievable deals. I LOVE the Restore stores--I've been to all three in the STL area and went to the one in Houston while there to attend the IQF quilt show. It's great knowing that the proceeds of your donations and purchases there go to such a great cause.
DeleteI recently remodeled my laundry room with items from Restore, to replace the worn vinyl flooring and an ugly composite utility sink. I got 100 sq. ft. of "new in box" commercial grade 18" square porcelain floor tiles for $60, a "like new" Kohler double porcelain sink for $30, a like new solid wood base cabinet to hold the sink also for $30, the Formica countertop for $3.75, and new quarter-round cabinet base molding for a mere $0.50.
Merry Christmas.. I love the square nobs too as that is what we installed 7 years ago. I love most things square.
ReplyDeleteLove the lights and the fence rail too. Enjoy your family.
Merry Christmas, Bonnie! Spending time at the cabin sounds like heaven to me. Enjoy all the special moments with your family. You deserve it! Blessings to you and yours.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas Bonnie! Isn't it something how new knobs can make the cabinets look totally different? I suggest you take at least one of the brass knobs and turn it into a Christmas ornament somehow - kind of as a gag, but just to be a reminder of what was done that first Christmas at the cabin!
ReplyDeleteI have peanut butter cookie dough in the fridge to make this morning. Family coming for dinner tonight. Can't wait! Hope you have a blessed holiday.

If you think the heavier knobs might be brass, take them along on an antique jaunt and see what a dealer would give you for them. Your family has accomplished an amazing amount in the time you have had the cabin. I think the lights on the fence is my favorite !!!! Certainly a great welcome home boys!!! The cookies on the sheet look like a row quilt LOL. Now to go finish the Christmas List. Thank You for sharing your projects with us.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas to you and your family!
ReplyDeleteI put my old wooden ones up and ebay and got 27.00 for them.
ReplyDeleteThe really funny thing turned out to be the new ones I bought at Home Depot at great expense, my friend in New Hampshire had just send identical ones to thrift store.
My kitchen and baths could use a real face lift, but the funny thing about that, the before and after pictures in magazines, it's the before pictures I lust for :) I'm way outta the loop~
Seasons best to all of you~
Merry Christmas To you and yours Bonnie! Thank you for all you do and share with us.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas to you and your family from sunny California! With all this wrapping, cookie making, shopping, etc. there's not much time for quilting - wah! We'll at least my husband is home and it's always fun hanging out with him. And he does help with the kids. They get so goofy at this time of the year.
ReplyDeleteEbay or craiglist....you could get some money for them to pay for...hmmm ...fabric!! or the new knobs!! Love being thrifty! I can almost smell those cookies, sugar cookies are my fav! Merry Christmas from snowy Ontario,Canada
ReplyDeleteI just had Habitat for Humanity come by and take away some light fixtures we never put up, the TV cabinet we not longer use, and some chairs...good cause and a tax writeoff! Merry Christmas...enjoy the cabin.

ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas from Nebraska where it has just started to snow....a little is nice but let's hope it doesn't get carried away. Your first Christmas at the cabin will be something your family always remembers.

ReplyDeleteThe quilt is wonderful, as always. Donating the knobs to Habitat is a great idea. Or- how about a Groupie Giveaway or sale so someone can have a bit of Bonnie in their kitchen or sewing room? Merry Christmas!
