Over the past several months I have enjoyed email conversation with one of my own most cherished "Quilting Rock Stars”, Judy Martin!
Can you imagine my shock and quilter’s heart flutters when I received a friendly conversational email from Judy introducing herself to me (As if I didn’t know who she was!) and telling me how much she enjoyed MY quilts.
Holy cow, Judy’s book “Scrap Quilts” published in 1985 was one of the first books on my shelves. I was 23 when I bought it. I still have it --pages worn and dog-eared and oh, so cherished.
Her quilts whet my appetite from the very beginning, and here she was introducing herself to me in such a friendly way via email, just to say hello.
She drew the parallels between us in the following ways:
we both love scrap quilts
we both own sizable stashes
we both write quilt pattern books
we both design original quilts in the traditional style
we are not afraid of quilts with a gazillion pieces
we both started making quilts as teenagers
we have both written for Quiltmaker
And little did she know that one little email made my day, my week, my month, my year ---yes, Judy Martin is still MY Rock Star!
So when her hubby Steve contacted me to ask if I’d like to offer one of Judy’s new books, Extraordinary Log Cabin Quilts as a GIVE-AWAY to one of my readers ---my reply was an astounding, AUTOMATIC YES!
I wouldn't be where I am without the lessons I learned and the inspiration I received through Judy Martin’s books.

ReplyDeleteI love Judy's designs and would love to win this
ReplyDeleteI saw my first Judy Martin log cabin quilt at a quilt store in Indianapolis some years back. The store was going out of business and unfortunately I got there when it was just about down to the bare walls. There was, however, a stunning quilt on the wall that stopped me dead in my tracks. It was Shoreline Log Cabin from Judy's 2007 book, "Log Cabin Quilt Book." I promptly bought the book, intending to make the quilt.I was chagrined to find that the quilt was beyond my abilities at the time. I doubted being able to keep all the pieces organized. The number of patches, the variety of patches, all the various hues and values and colors involved. Sheesh. Big Sky Log Cabin would have been my speed, but it didn't draw me in - lovely though it is - like Shoreline did. I would love to have this latest book by Judy and were I to win it, it could be the kick start I need to finally tackle Shoreline. But now I see new ones that entice me. I especially like Minnesota and Paducah. The red, white, and blue version of Main Street Log Cabin is also calling me. Peaceful Valley, too.
ReplyDeleteJudy's quilts are beautiful! The book would be a great addition to my reference library.

ReplyDeleteI have got to make the Paduca Log Cabin! If I don't win the book, it's going on my wish list. Think that gives Santa enough time to deliver?!?!?! Thanks, Judy and Bonnie.
ReplyDeleteI have a couple of Judy's books but not that one, and I would love it. Have fun in Germany, and we are having lots of fun here working on CS. Jan

I own most of Judy's books and her CD, and have made several of her wonderful quilts. I am currently hand quilting the leaves quilt from the cover of an older book and still love the look...it is going to a daughter who fell in love with it many years ago. She made one of Judy's quilts at age 11! Great patterns and wonderful directions! To add the new book to my stash would be wonderful! candrasowder@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteI have been getting Judy's newsletter for a while now and love it and her books.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the possibility of a new book.
I really, really love the Honeymoon Log Cabin that is in her book. I would love to win the book and make that quilt

Oh my, oh my, oh my, a new Judy Martin book! I think it is so great her husband is promoting her book. I don't have a favorite Judy quilt. I have fallen in love with every one of them that I have seen on blogs or at quilt shows. What an honor it would be to win Judy's book and make one or two of her wonderful designs. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great opportunity! Thank you Bonnie for making this available. A log cabin quilt is the first one I actually completed - being a gift for my dad. It gave me the confidence to try new designs, but log cabin remains my favorite. Who knew you could get so many fantastic designs from that simple pattern?
ReplyDeleteThank you for your fabulous contribution to the scrappy quilters of the world!
Lynne
I just purchased her book, Creative Quilts so I could make Shakespear in the Park. A girl can dream can't she? Anyway buying the book was the first step...who knows.
ReplyDeleteI'm so impressed by the pictures you shared from her new book. I would love to own that book. Thank you for the opportunity to win it!
I am so glad you featured this book today. I used to get Judy's newsletters but unsubscribed when I moved 18 months ago. I will visit her site and subscribe again. Meanwhile, I would have a hard time listing a favorite--they are all lovely. Thanks for the drawing.
ReplyDeleteThank s to both of you for an opportunity to win this book...I agree, Judy Martin is a rock-star quilter!!! I check her website often to see what her BOM or QOM is....

ReplyDeleteJudy's quilt Capistrano from Stellar Quilts is one of my all time favorites.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the cyber quilt show! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE log cabin quilts!!
ReplyDeleteI've never met a Judy Martin book I didn't love. And I've never seen a Judy Martin-inspired quilt that didn't take my breath away. Thanks for the chance to win her book. Many of her quilts are on my bucket list, but "Shakespeare in the Park" is at the top.
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful quilts. I love log cabin blocks, and the lay out possibilities are endless. Thanks for a chance to win.
ReplyDeleteI love Judy Martin and like you, have for years! Hard to chose a favorite but Scrap Quilts from 1985 is one I've used several times. I have made the Tennessee Waltz for youngest son and wife for their wedding, and the Star of the Orient was hand pieced for me in exchange for hand quilting a queen sized quilt. I got to help with the fabric choices. I have been hand piecing a Texas Star for quite some time as my take along project. She might enjoy hearing this story: I found this pattern as Missouri Daisy and from 1989-2009 I cut one *petal* from each fabric I purchased. That way I could say I had cut from every fabric I own for 20 years :) It is currently about 3/4s of the way done (I don't travel nearly enough LOL) Thanks for the chance to win her newest book! She will always be a favorite designer to me!
