Jared Takes A Wife in NY!

Yes, I know.

I know that the slide shows are back to being stupid again, requiring logins that go nowhere.

It isn’t me. But it is something that hasn’t been resolved with the service I use, and so today’s slide show is an attempt to see if webshots has gotten any better.

The one thing I don’t like about webshots is that the slide show does this “cropping and panning” thing, which means that often only PART of the photo is visible, and it is often not what the main focus of the photo is --and it is MOVING AROUND--the previews for the slide show also don’t show ALL the pictures in the album, so if it is a large album with many photos, you need to click to view the whole album or miss half of the good stuff.

Does anyone out there know of a good FREE site for storing photos with good slideshow capability? It’s a lot of work to edit down, say, 65 photos to get them viewable --- and if there isn’t a slide show viewer that is user friendly, I’m afraid that I’m going to have to give up on presenting these. I don’t want to stop ---but I don’t know what else to do!

We had a great class --- we met in the volunteer ambulance hall in North Salem, NY! The room was large and airy – a second floor room with large windows, lots of light and gorgeous wooded surroundings. We opened up the windows for some fresh air and were gifted by the lovely wonderful spring aroma of a riding lawn mower cutting the grass for what may have been the first time this season ---- BLISS!

I loved all the fabrics that were brought by the students, each quilt so unique in its own way just by the simple changes in the fabric and color schemes.

There are always things that I find FUN or INGENIOUS when teaching for a group…..let’s start with the fun, shall we?

NewYork2012 175

Once upon a time there was a very lovely bottle of champagne that came in a very lovely cheddar box ---

NewYork2012 176

Though the champagne was quickly consumed and a “thing-of-the-past” –the humble cheddar box remained, lonely without its contents, and afraid that it too would be sent off to the “recycle bin” with other unremarkable household trash.

Oh what a sad thought for this poor little champagne box!

NewYork2012 174

Never fear, lovely cheddar orange champagne box --- your life as a quilting container will be much more fulfilling and purpose filled than it EVER was as just a simple champagne bottle box……you will live out your days holding dreams and quilty-possibilities and your lovely cheddar color will bring smiles to all who see you full of quilt pieces, notions and whatever else your future may hold!

((Does the box live happily ever after? I think so! Oh what a happy champagne box! :cD ))

Now the question is….WHERE can *I* find my own cheddar orange champagne bottle box?!

Does your guild have issues with never enough ironing boards or ironing surfaces? Here’s something I thought was INGENIOUS!

NewYork2012 168

For those plastic topped light weight tables…….

SImply put a large baking sheet upside down on top of the plastic table and cover it with a folded towel. The baking sheet will protect the table top from melting from the iron heat --- and it gives a firm enough surface for nice pressing ----without being “too” spongy! We had several ironing stations like this set up along long lengths of table –it worked REALLY WELL!

So on to the slide show….oh I hope this works. Click the link below the slide show to get to the album to see ALL the photos ---in full size, without them being cropped and moving ---unless you want to miss the parts that the slide show has cut off..why do they do that?

I was able to view the complete (I assume) slideshow. Thanks for sharing. It can be so frustrating to find technology that should work well but doesn't. Keep inquiring, my friend, there has to be something out there which will serve your purpose.

  8. Lisa68 - Jared takes a wife is one of the FREE patterns on Bonnie's web site.

Bonnie, Flickr has a slide show option, I don't know if you could embed them into the blog posts, but people could go to your flickr account and look at them. HOWEVER I'm pretty sure that flickr has a limit of how many photos you can upload daily for their free account (that isn't an issue for me, but for you it likely would). I'm not sure of the price of the paid flickr account, it has been a while since I looked into it, but I think it was less than $30 a year (or at least it used to be).

I SO wished that I could have gone to the Somers show this past weekend, it is not much more than an hour from here, but this weekend was my groups annual Vermont Retreat. Hopefully I'll be able to catch you at the Vermont Quilt Fest! :-)

  9. Bonnie, I had trouble seeing the slides the first time there were problems, but after that I didn't have any problems. This came through OK for me also. Love the slide shows.
I really liked the color option where the arrow points were more subdued and the secondary design parts were emphasized. It really gave the quilt a different look. I'd like to see more of that gals quilt.

  14. I could see them... and they are beautiful! I'm taking that class in June in Columbus Ohio. So it was good to see some of the ideas. Picking colors for a quilt is always a problem for me. Your Site doesn't give amounts of fabric to bring to the Class can you let me know?

  18. wooliemammoth.blogspot and yellowfarmhouse.typepad use something called Smilebox (which says it's a free digital slideshow) - you might want to contact one of them and see what they have to say. I don't have a blog, so I might be talking out of my hat.

Your slide show was fine. But I never had any problems with the program you used to use. I love this quilt and we did it as a mystery quilt last year. Thanks Bonnie.
    Safe trip.

  21. I love this block! You might try Photobucket or SlickPic or Picasa. Here's a site that has reviews of the top 10 photo sharing sites. http://online-image-hosting-review.toptenreviews.com/ It gives a pretty in depth review of all of them including Webshots.

  22. The link showed everything for me--with no panning and scanning at all.
But it was slow going at times and I wondered if I had time to sit through all 55 photos. So glad I did--some gorgeous color combos. ANOTHER Bonnie pattern I have to put on my bucket list!

Bonnie - I really liked the slide show. The movement was GREAT. Instead of being so static as slide shows seem to be, movement gave life.
WONDERFUL fabrics and great jobs with the blocks. Did I see a stack of plaid pieces.

  30. Love love love this block! I've been trying to decide which pattern to start next and I think this is the one.
Have you checked out Photobucket.com? It's a storage/editing/sharing (all in one) site and sounds perfect for what you need. I like it much better than Webshots. I LOVE the slide shows you share so I sure want you to continue them. Good luck!!

  32. Here you go Bonnie, but I think for the money, I'd rather buy an old machine than a box.

  39. Hi Bonnie. I use Photobucket.com . It is free and I think it is unlimited. You can create as many albums and sub albums as you want. User friendly. It is what I use to put the pictures up for the About.com forum when we have a Doll Quilt Swap. It does have cropping ability. but not necessary. You get the full pix. Try it! It may be just what you are looking for.

Picasa is a fantastic photo management tool which incorporates a slideshow. It is great for reviewing your photo archive also. Easy and fast upload to Facebook available also. Free download from Google.
