Weekend Full Up With Quilting!

This was my view Saturday Morning as I walked from the front door at the inn, down the hall, through the kitchen to the back door -

We've been taking the cat food dishes in at night because....RACOONS!

You'd think they are starving.  They.  Are.  Not!

But look at how much closer Flash is!  From being completely feral, to feeling more comfortable, to now knowing that food is on the way.

No one has been able to pet him yet...he's still very shy, but he is more trusting day by day.  I love this for him.

Sunday morning brough about an earlier road hike in an attempt to beat the heatwave that has settled in.  We likely should have gone an hour earlier, but we still got out there.

The chicory is blooming in my favorite shade of periwinkle purple-blue.  It thrives on the summer heat.

And as we were out at 9:30am...there was no way to avoid the shadow of my arm and phone crossing the photo.

Posing by the ditch lilies in bloom!

Bak at retreat - there are some fine finishes!

I love this one made with African batiks...wonderful!

This fun Halloween quilt became:

This finish!

I don't have pattern info in front of me it's something like "Where's the Broom?" but I'll get that today so I can share it with you.

Little friendship stars shared Saturday received their sashings and cornerstones!

Disappearing pinwheel is getting sashings -

Love the bright, summery colors.

Rectangle Wrangle from Scraps & Shirttails II is happening over here...I love this!

And this is Blue Ridge Beauty from Adventures With Leaders & Enders in red!

A real labor of love here -

Cutwork applique (including reverse applique) and broderie perse - a technique of cutting out flowers and other parts of a fabric and using them to make a scene.

More cut out parts to be appliqued in place.

We decided that broderie perse was much like the "color forms" we used to play with as kids, but only for grown up quilters.

Straits of Mackinac from String Frenzy getting sashings here!

Sampler quilt designed by Pam Buda.

And more  Old Town blocks in blue and green are happening here.

It was a fun-filled weekend of all things quilty!

And yes, I spent some relaxing evenings with my feet up in my comfy chair just stitching down a binding -

I'm nearly 1/2 way now.  I would be further along, but we kind of got sucked in to Department Q on Netflix.  It was an edge-of-the-seat mystery/thriller and I admit I spent more time watching than I did stitching.

My favorite time of the day?  Early mornings out on the porch.

Me, a cuppa joe, a dog or two, and a curious Ivy Lea all watching the hummingbirds swirl and circle the humming bird feeders with a buzz and a hummmmmm.

If I can start my days out this way - I just know the rest will unfold into good.

I'm happy to be surrounded by quilters.  That there are things that we CAN do when so much of what is going on is completely out of our hands.

It's times like these when we've just got to keep quilting and stay connected to the quilters around us - because it's all we CAN do.

My newest Fireweed PDF pattern is currently 25% off in the Quiltville Store - no coupon needed. It's an automatic discount good through 6/30/25.

Did you enter the gift away On That Post?

I'll be drawing for two winners who will each receive a Fireweed PDF pattern from me and a Facets of Red fabric roll from  Cotton to Quilts.

Yes, they have many more cotton rolls available - be sure to check out their adorable neutral rolls!

We will draw for our two winners on Saturday, 6/28/25.

Today - group photos this morning, and over-the-porch-rail photos this afternoon.

It's the last full retreat day for Irene's Sewciologists and we will pack it full with making more blocks, finishing tops and filling up the last hours before it's time for everyone to head home tomorrow morning.

How about your day? What's happening in your world?

I'm also so happy that you share pictures in this blog because the quilters' projects are very inspirational. Thank you! Cute quote today...I'm off to problem solve piecing a minky backing 104" x 104" and getting it on the longarm so I can get my Old Town quilted. Yay! Have a great day everyone, Jenny

Oh, how sweet to see the animals this morning, used to use chicory in our coffee, not so common here. The quilt creations are so inspiring! Stay cool and hydrated.

  6. I just finished watching Dept Q last night also. I was "reverse sewing" strips while I watched. Like you, I didn't get a lot of that done! Looks like there will be a 2nd
Season in the future with the way things were left hanging.

  7. It didn't take Flash long to figure out his sister has it pretty good! HA! I'm glad for him. We are home from vacation & slowly getting back into routine. I am starting with a box of scraps & sorting them out for an Idaho Square Dance!! Loving the stuff coming from the group this week! Happy stitching! :-)
